Well my dear Indian friend took me for a treat to Baluchis located at Queens blvd 76th Road. The food was good but I personally felt that the restaurant cheated on the mango lassi...

Terrible service - do not order from here 11/22/2011

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. Enough said. I am Indian and I never give an Indian restaurant a bad rating, but Baluchi's is the limit. They are extremely rude, and always mess up the order. I ordered delivery twice and both times they messed up my order and refused to take it back or exchange it. The second time my husband picked it up because we didn't want to spend so much time waiting, turns out they charged us for one thing and the order had something else. When my husband called, they were extremely rude and refused to come and take it back, they asked us to take it back. I will NEVER order from here, and am disputing the charges with my credit card company. Yuva and Chola are much better and have much much better service - plus their food is better. Why pay $$$ for watery food with Baluchi's and deal with their rude behavior? more

Marred by Poor Management 7/27/2009

This Baluchis store has idiotic management from the top down. Try ordering an entree like chicken saagwala without rice. They wont do it for anything. They can't comprehend that the customer who already had rice wouldn't want to waste rice and would save the store rice, and they would force you to order rice that you won't be able to finish and would have to throw away. On multiple occasions when you order delivery, they would make you go down to the lobby to get the food. Just unfortunate, that poor and inflexible management gets in the way of decent food here. Pros: Decent Indian food, consistent with other Baluchis Cons: Terrible and inflexible management and service more

Poor customer service and unprofessional 6/6/2008

Customer Service is so poor, so poor, it was downright disgusting, shocking and unacceptable: Manager with his oversized ego and ""Waiters"" are rude and unprofessional..dunno what they think of themselves, gave them a nice talk, it was like a s!@p on their faces and kick up their asses. Somebody had to bring them down from their pedestal, coz customers are customers and they cant be disrespectful to the hand that feeds them..hello we are paying the $$$ ka-ching! kapeesh?? And to all the people, if the waiter/manager is rude or unaccomodating, feel free to leave a 1 cent tip...or nothing at all, coz ur paying for the overpriced/small portions food anyways! Pros: Nothing Cons: Many more

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED 5/24/2008

I recently had dinner at this restaurant after a long time.It is under new management and was recommended to me strongly by my office peers. The food seems to be much improved and worth every penny. The service was also very prompt to my relief.I liked it so much that it is now a regular for me and my husband. The menu also carries 50%discounts during lunch.ATTRACTIVE.The new management also manages the locations at greenwich st and W56th.I am yet to try these out but I plan on doing it soon.Cheers guys and if anybody visits the other restaurants do not forget to post up the reviews. Pros: great food decent service more

the best scamsters 5/13/2008

Well my dear Indian friend took me for a treat to Baluchis located at Queens blvd 76th Road. The food was good but I personally felt that the restaurant cheated on the mango lassi and other soft drinks. The glass is half filled with ice and then the juice is poured into it, which leaves a very small proportion of juice actually filled in the glass and we literally are paying for the ice. Moreover the biggest scam was discovered by mistake...instead of entering the door to the cloak room I entered the kitchen and to my utter shock, I seen one of the waiters nibbling from the dishes, meant to be served to the customers. Nobody realized my few seconds presence in the kitchen and I quietly darted off from there to the next room..... more

Avoid this restaurant 2/4/2008

Horrible Manager dressed in a suite needs to learn some manners, The most insulting person I have come accross in my entire life and demands that the customer tips 20% for the terrible service and sub standard food Cons: everything more

Avoid this Baluchis! 12/23/2007

My wife and I stopped going here a few years ago after coming across a long hair baked into our papad. However, since our favorite, Bengal Express has closed, we decided to give Baluchis a go again. We ordered Rogan Josh, Chicken Korma, and our favorite Saag Paneer. When we bravely inquired about getting papad and sauces to start, we got it and were told they don't have onion relish (which I love). So we get our food - bland, bland, bland. The Korma barely had a flavor, the chicken had none, there was fruit in it (another reviewer wrote about this), and I think we had cashews instead of almonds. The Rogan Josh, bland, but the quality of the lamb was decent despite this. The Saag Paneer, tasted like bland steakhouse creamed spinach (Seabrook frozen creamed spinach tastes better), but at least it seemed fresh. Now here's the best part, we get the check and they charged us $2 for the papad that is COMPLEMENTARY at practically every indian restaurant - the waitress never mentioned this. When I asked, the manager complained that prices went up - yeah, I understand how this works pal, I live here. I told him the food was bland. He took it pretty well considering I was being blunt about my disappointment. BUT THEN, we overhear him tell a table of Indians that he doesn't trust Americans opinions as much as Indians. Oh yeah!? Well you're in America pal, I know good indian food, and your place is awful. Trust all the negative views about this pompous manager and note that the only good reviews are from years ago. AVOID THIS PLACE! Pros: The food seemed fresh Cons: Bland food, horrible management/service more

Service is Deplorable 11/9/2007

I went here for lunch on a busy Friday. Room was buzzing, so I had trouble hearing what the manager said to me while I waited near the door. In reply to his question, I said, Excuse me."" With an unusual amount of ferocity, he said, ""What are you waiting for?"" Confused, I said, ""To eat."" He then left. After about 30 seconds, he returned and started excitedly saying, those people are a party one of one. He is a party of one. I stopped him and said I just couldn't hear you; I am a party of one. When he left, I turned to the two men near me and said, what just happened here? Both said they didn't know why he was so upset. The manager returned and started yelling at me. I told him I am don't know why he is talking to me like this because I didn't even say anything to him. He left and the two men said the manager was being rude and diners near us were staring. Before they said that I put on my coat to leave. When the manager came back again and continued yelling, I hurried out the door. I have never been yelled at for saying, excuse me, and will not pay for that kind of service. I am sure it was the stress of the crowd but I will not accept yelling for any reason. I waited until the end of the lunch rush to complain. I was told to call back twice. After the prescribed wait, I was told the manager had just left for the day. Pros: Cheap prices Cons: Rude service more

Worst Service ever 9/26/2007

My friends and I went to have a late lunch and the restaurant was mostly empty except for a couple of other people. First it took forever to get our drinks and then the person taking th orders was busy tachatting up another customer. This was another 1/2 hour waiting for him to take our order. And he was completely rude the whole time he took our order. Then he had the audacity to be upset that he only got a $5 dollar tip. And he told us we could not leave until we left more. Of course we didn't but the food is not worth the rude and slow service. Cons: service more

It's aiight 11/15/2006

Go to this Baluchis once in a while for lunch as I work in Midtown. The menu is half price during lunch which works out nicely - can't imagine paying double for the same food at dinner. It's tasty but there better and more authentic Indian to be had out there. Pros: half off lunch menu more

Obnoxious Waiters 9/8/2006

My girlfriends and I went in for dinner at around 8 PM. The restaurant was not full. The waiter wanted to put us in this really small table all the way in the back. I asked if they could put 2 tables together by the window and the waiter kept insisting that we sit at another small table. I finally conceded to avoid making a scene. After we ate and we got the bill I gave a $8.00 tip. The waiter came back to our table and told me that a 20% tip was mandatory and said that we had to give more money. I told him that if he wanted us to give a good tip his staff should have accommodated us from the beginning. He had the audacity to tell me that we got good service and that I wasn t going to leave until I gave a better tip. I was furious and asked him what was he going to do if i didn't?! I told him that that was my second time going there and that I would never ever go back there again! Don't go to this restaurant unless you want to be harassed by their obnoxious and presumptuous wait staff. They are Jerks! more

AWESOME FOOD!! 8/15/2006

I don't kno one2 or FENIXar was saying, BALUCHI's is absolutely the best Indian food I've had in New York. IT IS THE DEFINITION OF GREAT INDIAN FOOD and as for the Korma comment, go make it yourselfif you know indian food so well. I give it the best indian restaurant chain in NYC! GO GO GO!!! Pros: Great food, servoce, and prices more

Not representative of Indian culture and food.. 6/1/2006

Service very poor, very subjective. Expects high tips..notes down if you don't tip well and orders you not to come again...Visit this restaurant if you want a bad ending to your day... more

Tasty Indian Food ~ Nice Decor ~ Friendly Staff 12/18/2005

I don't know what FENIXSTAR was ranting about, but I had a wonderful lunch at this delightful Indian restaurant. The lamb curry, chicken curry, and vindaloo were DELICIOUS!! The Vindaloo is spicy so~~ beware~~ The rice was cooked just right~ and with the 50% off deal at lunch you can't go wrong! Pros: Food, Lunch Price, Ambience Cons: Parking more

Horrible waste of Time 1/23/2005

Baluchi's does NOT represent Indian food. Korma, in all of it's forms, never EVER features fruit cocktail, yet this restaurant will try to pass it off in your sauce. Your request for white meat chicken will never be honoured nor will your food arrive hot. Even with the 50% off lunch special, it's a waste of money. Do yourself a favor, skip Baluchis and head to one of the kitschy Indians on 6th street. Pros: nice copper decor, thats all, thats all Cons: , service, taste more

Delicious 9/14/2004

The food for lunch was really delicious, along with 50% off eat in. So you can't go wrong with the menu and the price. Definitely worth more than one visit. I can't wait to go back. Pros: Delicious & tasty, Very reasonable more

Thumbs Up 5/16/2004

I was a little weary of this place for two reasons: its a small chain, and the fact that it was pretty much empty when I went. Despite these two facts I found the food to be very good. The only complaint is the cracker they serve before dinner (sorry can't remember the name, roti maybe?) is a little too peppery. Otherwise the food and service were top notch, and the price is right. Pros: cool cups., Price, Fast, friendly svc. more
