Two friends recommended Nercy and Alchemy salon to me as a newcomer to the city. I loved their haircuts and their loyal enthusiasm. My expectations were exceeded! Her space is ...

Been to many high end salons and this one takes the cake 10/11/2007

I've been to quite a few salons in my time and not once have I received as many compliments as I did after getting my hair highlighted and cut at Mialia. I felt so comfortable there and everyone was so friendly. My hair came out so natural looking with some serious dimension which most stylists have not been able to achieve. My haircut also came out just the way I had envisioned it. I'm so excited I finally found a permanent place. more

Loved the Salon., loved Nercy!!!! 9/18/2007

I've been going to Nercy for a year now... and I still get compliments on my hair everytime I get my hair cut. The atmosphere at the salon is unprententious, friendly and comfortable. I don't usually like to linger or spend alot of time at a salon but this place is just so charming and comfortable. Makes you feel right at home, like you're hanging with your girlfriends for the afternoon. The price is reasonable compared to many other boutiquey salons I've been to. Nercy definitely has the right formula .... I highly recommend it!!!! Pros: beautiful salon, attentive staff, great stylists Cons: can't think of any more

Great haircut and nice ambience 8/16/2007

This is the best salon I've been to in New York. On my last visit, I got an angled bob and the cut lasted for months. Their gloss treatment also added a lot of shine to my hair. Pros: atmosphere is quiet and relaxing more

Surprisingly Dissapointed 7/16/2007

I've always been very happy with the haircuts Nercy gives. However, my last visit proved that there is one style in which she goes by and loses her talents when asked to stray from it. My hair is curly and for anyone who has curly hair I would recommend steering clear. I'm trying to grow my hair out and needed more layers so I don't lose volume. I asked her to graduate the layers up the back. I should have been suspicious when she became irregularly quiet. She rushed while drying my hair and sent me on my way. Once I dried it straight and flat ironed it in order to see the work I was shocked to see that the back of my hair didn't have layers but was two lengths. The top section was chopped approximately 2 inches higher than the hair below it. It basically looks like I have a hair peice/fall pinned to the back of my head and in order to fix it I may need to cut the lower level to meet the top layer. Unfortunate since I'm trying to grow it out. For $110 plus tip I expected more. Pros: Good for straight hair Cons: BAD for curly hair more

Best Kept Beauty Secret in New York City 7/14/2007

Mialia Salon under the artistic direction of stylist Nercy Sullivan is the best kept beauty secret in New York City. As a NYC resident for almost 20 years, I have had the good fortune of sitting in some of the best chairs in town (including being a long-time client at Fekkai's salon) -- so I feel qualified to make this statement as I've spent a lot of time and money in the salon chair over the years. Pros: Attentive, personal service producing superb results Cons: None whatsoever more

Abby does excelent color! 7/11/2007

I was daring and desperate and did something I have never done before: asked someone on subway, who does her color. I was well rewarded for my courage: I found Abby! She is a professional, intuitive, courteous coloring specialist. The place is very friendly and quiet. There is no drama or self-importance and you will be out in no time! Thank you Abby (and guys)! more

Two haircuts for the price of one!!!! 7/1/2007

I am a guy that has to work in the corporate world where longer hair is frowned upon. Since I am not a fan of extremely short hair, I was very blessed to find these guru's of hair...from color to cut....they are the best! Pros: The Best of the Best more

Down-to-earth professionals! 6/27/2007

I got my hair colored before, and quite frequently ended up getting it corrected - or corrected it myself- because of unwanted redish or unnatural looking colors. more

best hair cut in town 5/20/2007

I went in only for highlights and left with an amazing haircut an highlights! I received so many compliments! They did such and amazing job... they are extremely welcoming and the energy as soon as you walk in is electric! I absolutely recomend MIALIA to all of my friends and family! more

A hidden treasure 5/15/2007

I have been living in NYC for almost 6 years, it took several bad experiences, lots of $$$$$ and 4.5 years to find Nercy. She is hands down the best hairdresser I have met since I moved to the city. Nercy will assess your needs, give you her input and let you decide what you want to do. She doesn?t tell you what to do, she only makes suggestions. Nercy has cut my hair a half of dozen times in the last year, I have never had more compliments in my life. More importantly I have never had so many options in terms of how I wear my hair. Nercy is truly a talented hairdresser and most importantly an honest person. A rare combo to find in any city! more

Haircut (and Haircutter) of my dreams! 4/30/2007

I floated out of Nercy's chair for the first time about a month ago. Since then, I've gotten compliments from just about everyone I know, like: ""You look terrific/young/gorgeous!"" Nercy intuitively knew exactly what to do with me. I told her I refuse to rely on products, and she listened. It's a GREAT cut! I can't wait to go back. Nercy is IT.... for me. It's 20 years since I trusted a haircutter, and then she moved back to Iceland. Please Nercy: stay here! more

Gorgeous Color! 4/27/2007

I am generally pretty wary of having my hair colored (since I've had some bad experiences in the past), but I decided to have Abby color my hair and it turned out absolutely gorgeous! She was extremely helpful in helping me choose my color, a shade of red that compliments my skin tone, and explained to me how the color would take on my type of hair. She also worked with me since I have short hair, to keep it healthy and undamaged, so when I grow it out I can achieve the look and color I want when that time comes. I was impressed with her knowledge and patience, she will definately be doing my color from now on!!! Pros: Friendly stylists, comfortable atmosphere more

Best hair cut and service 4/26/2007

MiaLia salon is wonderful. Although I now live on the West Coast, I wait to return to NY so that Nercy can cut my hair. Because she does such a good job, the cut lasts months longer than my other cuts, and Nercy is simply one of the nicest people around. I always walk out of her salon happy. more

Average Cut for Uptown Prices 4/23/2007

The owner is sweet but I had to go twice to get the color right and I am very disappointed in the cut. I feel i got the same cookie cutter haircut as every other client of hers. I would not have been so upset if i had paid half the price. If you decide to risk it....get an itimized receipt, the price was redicuolus. Try Blackstone instead. Pros: sweet people Cons: highly overpriced for what you get. more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE 4/22/2007

I had the worst experience I have ever had with a salon at Mialia. I made an appointment over a week in advance and spoke in detail with the receptionist about the type of cut and color I was going to get. I also went into detail about my up coming wedding as I was looking for a salon for my bridesmaids and I to have our hair done. When I showed up for my appointment they didn't have it in their system. In stead of appologizing and squeezing me in, all they said was sorry and that the colorist had left for the day. There was not one other customer in the salon. At a minimum they could have offered to cut my hair but instead they just asked me if I was sure that I had the right salon!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I had the right salon. All of their information was in my blackberry, and when I had called to make my appointment I had spoken to the receptionist about a particular colorist who is no longer with the salon so I knew I was in the right place. Cons: Unorganized more

Warm Staff + Camera-Ready Hair 4/19/2007

I've been getting my hair cut at Mialia since March 2006, when I raved about a friend's haircut and she sent me to Nercy, the owner. The place is wonderful -- warm atmosphere, great location, and really nice employees who have always offered me a glass of wine or some sort of yummy treat. Nercy & co. obviously love what they do, and they are close to the loyal clientele they have accumulated over the years. Nercy really listens to you when you describe the kind of hairstyle you're looking for -- she will make suggestions (and they've always been on-target, in my experience), but will never force her ideas upon you if they're not what you're looking for. I walk out of her salon looking and feeling ready for a L'Oreal commercial, and shamelessly checking out my reflection in store windows. Also, the haircuts I've gotten at Mialia have grown out really nicely, so I can go several months between appointments if I need to save funds. Pros: bouncy haircuts & super-nice staff Cons: a little expensive, but worth the splurge more

Great hairicare, positive attitude, and personalized service 4/3/2007

I learned about Mia LIa salon about 5 years ago when I was at a gallery opening and noticed someone who had the most beautiful color. She had subtle highlights, and lowlights, and her hair moved so beautifully. She sent me to Nercy at Mia Lia. Pros: custom haircare, long term view of hair health, good matchup of stylists with clients Cons: a little pricey- $90//haircut highlights start at $125 more

Great Experience 3/30/2007

I decided to go to Mialia after I read so many postive reviews. So I said why not? I definitely needed a new haircut. I knew the price was going to be alot more than I usually pay but I wanted something different yet stylish. So I made the appointment during my lunch hour hoping my hair wouldn't look disasterous when I returned back to work. I arrived at the salon and was greeted with a warm smile and very nice people. Nercy cut my hair and she was great. Very nice and easy to talk too. After my cut, I returned back to work and I received many looks and compliments. Its three months later and I am actually going back to get another hair cut. Pros: Friendly Staff, Haircut more

Truly a cut above!!! 12/21/2006

I had to wait till after I washed my hair to give my review on what has to be the best haircut I've ever had. And, yes, it looked phenomenal when I styled it myself this morning (I tried it wavy--she was right!). THAT is the mark of a great haircut--you can do it yourself at home. I've read all of the reviews and they are so accurate. Nercy is a master at what she does. I wanted a ""radical"" haircut (nothing crazy, just from long to short) and she wasn't afraid to cut it. I told her what I wanted and instead of pulling through my hair looking at me through the mirror, she sat down next to me and we discussed my options. I have a thin face and long chin, but incredibly she was able to give me the cut I always wanted and it worked with my face!!! And it didn't just simply pass, it changed the shape of it and enhanced my features. This wasn't a cookie cutter haircut either. It was unique and customized to my face, and still utterly modern. I've gotten so many uninspired haircuts in my life and this one really stands out as fantastic. She also did a glossing and fixed a coloring mess I had gotten my hair into. It is gorgeous. The whole salon experience was wonderful and relaxing; everyone was warm and down-to-earth. What a find! I have finally found my salon. more

A real find in Chelsea 12/20/2006

A friend recommended that I get a haircut from Nercy at Mialia. Since my friend's hair always looks fantastic I tried Mialia. I was completely satisfied and loved the positive energy that Nercy exudes. Not only does she give a great cut, but you always leave with a smile on your face. Highly recommended. more
