Porto Rico Coffee 6/9/2006

Have enjoyed Porto Rico coffee for almost twenty years and now buy it whenever I travel to NYC or on-line. I like my coffee with just a splash of milk, no sugar. Porto Rico roasts coffee daily and you can choose from a dizzying array of roasts from varying regions of the world (includes sustainable coffees). The business roasts excellent blends (my favorite is Peter's Blend which is 1/3 each Columbian, French Moca and Venezuelan Tachira); beans only, please). Coffee is available regular and decaffeinated (1/2 and 1/2 on some roasts is a good thing and you can custom blend your own coffee). Walking into one of the Porto Rico outlets is such an intoxicating experience as you inhale the scent of coffee. There are three locations in lower Manhattan, and they all are open seven days a week): 201 Bleecker St., (b/w 6th Ave. and Macdougal) 212 477 5421 40 1/2 St. Marks, (b/w 1st and 2nd Ave.) 212 533 1982 107 Thompson St., (b/w Prince and Spring) 212 966 5758 Porto Rico runs an annual coffee sale where prices per lb. are usually slashed by up to 50%--this is time to stock and save. Mail order is efficient and you'll receive your delivery promptly. Stop by one of their stores and enjoy a cup to go! more

Coffee Central 3/11/2006

This is a great coffee shop -- not for getting a cup of coffee, but for getting beans to bring home. They will grind them for you there to a variety of machine and filter types, or you can buy whole beans. They have dozens and dozens of types of coffee and the smell in the store is incredible. Beware it can get mobbed around the holidays as many use it as a last minute gift giving option -- the good news is via their website they also do mail order. more

Delicious coffee, very cheap prices 8/16/2005

I love this store! You can purchase coffee by the cup, but the best deal are the beans you can purchase by the pound. The large sacks of coffee along one side of the store make it very hard to choose what flavor to buy. Luckily, their prices are cheap and so instead of choosing, I just get one of each. more
