I cant wait to visit there new location which opened already in midtown . more

Not Authentic Italian & Ridiculously Overpriced! 1/31/2010

My best friend and I recently had dinner at Valbella's and were incredibly disappointed! As a frequent traveler to Italy over the last 20 yrs and an avid NY diner, \r I can safely say this was some of the worst food we have ever had in the Tri-State Area! Although the decor and the hostess were quite lovely, the food was not authentic Italian & the staff was rather uninformed. In addition, Valbella's menu was embarrassingly full of Italian misspellings and blatant mislabelling. For example, I ordered, ""Polenta con Salsiccia"" (Polenta with Sausage) and was presented with a plate of, ""Polenta with a Veal Cutlet."" My entree of, ""Papardelle con Costine di Manzo"" was completely watered-down & tasteless. My best friend's, ""Risotto all'Aragosta"" was raw & inedible. Needless to say, we canceled dessert for fear of further disappointment. Lastley, the wine selection by the glass was sadly limited. There are just too many other good options in NY to waste your time and hard-earned money. Oh, and, Zagat's..., SHAME ON YOU, for your inadequate review!\r Pros: Nice Venue Cons: Many! more

TAKE A PASS...SERIOUSLY! 12/14/2009

The first thing that hits you when you enter the restaurant is the poor acoustics. It is so loud as to be deafening. At one point during the dinner, dance music was added to the cacophony, which didn't help matters. When I approached the hostess station, I provided my name and asked if my table was ready. She was totally incredulous that I even asked. The hostess also acted as the coat check girl, so she disappeared for about 5-10 minutes before I was actually seated. The food was decent, but at $40 per entree (no joke), I want EXCELLENT, not decent food. For example, I ordered the rack of lamb, medium rare. It was served medium. Again, you might say, no big deal, but at $41, I want medium rare. In addition, it took our waiter about 15 minutes to bring us menus and a wine list. Are you serious? There was ample bus staff, but since the tables are so tightly packed, they constantly hit the back of your chairs while you're dining. It was extremely annoying. Net-net, if you're going to spend this type of money, there are plenty of world class restaurants in NYC that more than out shine this poorly executed dining establishment. I would put money down right now that this place won't make it to Summer 2010. Pros: Absoutely Nothing Cons: Loud, Over Priced, Poor Service more

over rated over priced 3/1/2009

The food was good . The wine list was excellent. The price is much too high for the area. $28 for pasta and $20 for a salad is a bit much. There are much better resturants to chose from in New York.\r Its a nice place to go if you enjoy good food but take a tums after you get the bill. \r Pros: food , ambiance Cons: price , service , more

every time is perfect 11/24/2008

This restaurant is a wonderful experience. The Pounded filet mignon is to DIE for! The atmosphere is great - nice, upscale, but comfortable - not too ""stuffy"". Whether ordering off of the regular menu, you will never be disappointed. Out of my 5 visits there, I have never once tasted something mediocre... always a home run, every time.\r \r more

Excellent Food - Great Wine List 10/30/2008

Valbella is in the meatpacking district. You would never imagine such an upscale ambiance from the outside of the building. The atmosphere is very chic but the decor is minimal. They have added some color by displaying several huge flower arrangments. This was my first visit to Valbella and it was in mid October.\r The food is northern Italian. Everything we ordered was unique in its preparation and delicious. I am full blooded Italian, born in Brooklyn, and now live in La Jolla, CA. I am usually very critical of Italian restaurants but Valbella totally surpassed my expectations. The service was attentive, the staff is polite, experienced and accommodating. \r The wine list is extensive but on the expensive side. Of course that didn't stop us from ordering two bottles.. \r I have already recommended this restaurant to several friends. I am on my way back to Manhattan next week. I will definitely dine at Valbella at least one time during my stay! Pros: Great Food, ambiance, service Cons: wine list is overpriced. more

A breath of Fresh air in NYC 1/7/2008

This restaurant serves fantastic food, and the atmosphere and service are spectacular. Old school Italian, the hospitality here brings warmth and adds to the superbly prepared plates. Try the ricotta stuffed zucchini flowers and the fresh homemade pasta in the truffle cream sauce, which are not on thier menu, but rather listed(if you are lucky!) in the specials by your waiter. I've been to other famous italian places in the city and none stand up to the value and taste this lovely restaurant offers. The best part is the extensive wine list and lovelingly prepared desserts. Enjoy! Pros: brillant wine list (several by the glass!), lovely atmosphere, excellent food and excellent value for the money. more

Molte Bene! 10/20/2007

Great food, atmosphere and service. We have dined in Valbella in Greenwich. Great to have a city option. The food (and desserts) are great. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is sheek, trendy and classy. I recently had a chance to dine in one of the Wine rooms, which is a great experience. If you are a wine lover this place is for you. But if you want privacy or romance, the wine rooms may not be the best choice. They are working wine rooms, so waiters are constantly coming and going. The prices are high, but you get what you pay for, especially when someone else is paying. more

Awesome Service, Awesome Atmosphere, Awesome Food, Awesome Wine .....what more could you want? 2/26/2007

I love ValBella in the meatpacking district. They have delicious food and a very extensive wine list (however mostly Italian). This is a high end place, but the design and attitude are not pretentious in the least. From the moment you are greeted at the door to when you leave you are treated with a graceful, accommodating attitude from everyone you come across. The owner David is the humblest of all and treats patrons as his family. The food is delicious you can't go wrong, especially with the off-menu selections.\r Great job creating an amazing high end experience that doesn't come attatched to a snooty uncomfortable atmosphere. Rare find in NYC, especially this neighborhood! Pros: Service, Ambience, Food, Wine Cons: Pricey Wine List more

Underseasoned 2/23/2007

The best part was the wine. Service wasn't bad, but the coffee spilled on my lap didn't make the night any better. Sorry! Pros: Lovely decor, good wine Cons: bland food more

Stay Away 2/12/2007

I am a native New Yorker who dines out often and am a certified ""foodie"". My recommendation - don't go here. This is an ultra-expensive suburban restaurant masquerading as a great NYC restaurant. The food is overpriced, but more importantly, simply mediocre. You're much better off going to any number of Italian restaurants in the city - Lupa and Babbo, for example, are in a completly different league. Trattoria del Arte is a much better bet. Finally, the service was overbearing, and sans enthusiasm. more

I took clients here and we all loved the space and the food was great too. I will def. be back. more

What a GREAT Dining experience! 2/13/2006

The Food! The wine! The Service! All impecable. This is really the best new resturant in NYC!!!! Pros: Food, Wine, experience Cons: none! more

Let's not get carried away... 1/3/2006

There is no question the food is top notch - but it comes at a heavy price. Had I known dinner for two would push near $400 there are other destinations in the city I would prefer. more

Not Worth It 12/31/2005

When spending this kind of money you expect the best. You certainly don't get this here. The food was aveage at best. I've had better veal dishes at my local Italian restaurant, and the Napoleon everyone is raving about was awful. The waiter messed up two of the dishes and the table was left dirty after each course. You are better off at any of the other top rated restaurants if you are looking for a true dining experience. more

Sensational 12/15/2005

A sensational new space - unique design that is elegant and sexy! Top food and service. Soon to be among the most popular in NYC! Pros: Architecture, Food, Service more

Best of the Best 12/12/2005

This will easily be one of New Yorks best restaurants. The food and service are off the charts, and the boys at Val Bella will make you feel like a king. If you love good wine, this is the place for you. The wine list reads like a top 100 list from Wine Aficionado, and they always have great recommendations. If you have room for dessert, try the Napoleon, it will blow you away. This place is the BEST of the BEST more

Finally! Valbella comes to NY 12/12/2005

It used to be that I would have to travel up I95 to Riverside CT. to enjoy one of the best restaurants I have ever been to...Finally Valbella comes to Manhattan. Leave it to David to pick the hottest spot in town. Perfection! Gorgeous place. Unbeatable service. Jeff is on of the most knowledgeable sommeliers I have ever met. Two wine cellars, one of which has a private dining table. The food is off the charts. You have to get the napoleon for dessert. Amazing! more
