Prêt-a-manger 4/22/2006

Prêt-a-manger is French for ready-to-eat. This is, I believe, a chain business, and is great for lunch time during the week in the big city since everything is pre-made. The staff at this location is quick and friendly. You can be in and out in a few minutes as long as you know what you want even if there is a long line. I've never had any salads and should try one soon but the sandwiches are great but not as filling as I wish they were. I think the sandwiches are from $7 -$8 each. I work with many European colleagues and they say that the bread that the sandwiches are made with is the best in this area. My favorite sandwiches are the winter baguette or the summer baguette. As I don’t eat cheese or mayonnaise (allergy) this makes it a bit difficult to eat at Prêt-a-manger since everything is pre-made but I do enjoy those two sandwiches even if they do contain mayonnaise. The raspberry smoothie they have there is good but I think it’s a bit too sweet. It will run you about $2 - $3. The lemonade ice tea is also good and is a bit less sweet. I have also had the soup but don’t think it’s anything too special. Prêt-a-manger says that everything is made fresh there daily and I don't find that too hard to believe. There are seats in the shop that could probably fit about 15 people in total, but I think people usually pop in there to grab something to eat and go eat elsewhere. In conclusion, I think this is a great place to grab a bite to eat if you don’t need to “customize” your sandwiches. The sandwiches are good and the service is quick. more

  • In Short
A household name in its homeland England, this upscale deli has landed stateside in fast-paced business neighborhoods. What distinguishes this chain from the typical sandwich-and-salad counter is a fresh, additive-free menu that's served up just as quick. Each morning, chefs bake the baguettes, then prepare a gourmet menu of cranberry-goat cheese sandwiches and chicken-and-citrus salads, and finally display them at designated stations for easy, efficient access. Cafe tables accommodate professionals who have a bit more time.
