The menu is unique and the prices are very reasonable. Lunch specials are an amazing deal at $8 (just get there between 12:00-4:00pm), and their daily cream of ______ soups are so...

Truly disgusting. The wife and I had several appetizers and a salad. Every bite worse than the last. The only thing I would ever think of having at this dive is the juice. B...

Vegan heaven 9/29/2006

I know of only a handful of truly vegan restaurants in the city, so finding this one was quite a surprise! Sacred Chow is a small but beautifully decorated place in the NYU area of the village. It has a very Asian/middle eastern feel, but the food is not like that at all. First, the lighting is subdued and beautiful coloured glass and metal lights hang from the ceiling. The tables are small, but comfortable, some with pillows on wicker stools, others with benches and a few traditional chairs. There's even a small fountain in the corner. The food is pure vegan - healthy and delicious. They offer a 3 appetizer deal for $12. I tried the "western tofu" sandwich. It had thick slices of seasoned tofu, a dill "mayonnaise" spread and lettuce. The bread was whole grain, warm and crunchy. The dill spread (made from soy of course) was so delicious and did not taste at all like fake dairy. It was served with a sort of cabbage/fruit cole slaw. I didn't try dessert, but they all sound fabulous and I bet taste pretty much like the real thing too. I left very satisfied and my meal was $11 with tax and tip. I will be returning! more
