Too Noisy for a First Date 1/22/2012

The staff was freindly and effecient; the food was good and the prices reasonable. But the noise level was too much. Not merely an annoying din... its a small place and the clientele, lots of afterwork folk, have no problem with yelling and cackling away. Hard to have a civilized conversation - lots of leaning in, ""...what'd you say?"" Ugh. more

Date spot. 11/11/2008

This is a first date spot. Affordable drinks and food. Its quite enough to talk and its not too crowded. I wish I found this place a long time ago. The skirt steak was great and so was the cheese. The wine prices made me so happy. Pros: Great date spot. Cons: Needs a little bit of music when theres not many people in there. more

great and quaint 1/30/2008

It's a small place, but candlelit tables make it a great date spot. The food is amazing, and the prices are reasonable. It's not too crowded so you'll actually be able to have a conversation! Pros: food, ambience more

The most amazing hiden gem on the UES! 3/28/2007

I have been meaning to write a review about vetro for a long time, now that I have gotten around to it I think I should share my secret spot with everyone. \r \r The place is seriously a hidden gem. The drinks are great, the service amazing, its sleek though romantic and the best value in the city! Ordering a glass of wine gets you a half bottle (seriously)! The food is always very good and fresh, especially the bruschetta and the appetizers. You cant beat the service either! Pros: Food, Value, Vibe, Service, Wine Cons: Sometimes not crowded enough, delivery is slow more

Great place 1/11/2007

I have been to Happy Hour at Vetro twice now and was very impressed both times. I took a friend there last night and she LOVED the place. Drinks are $4 till 7 pm on weekdays and the appetizers are all very cheap and really good. The owner always sends over a free appetizer which is great. the bartender was very attentive and the service was great. Nice ambience as well, maybe some music would be nice though, I don't remember any playing. Definitely worth checking out though. more

I couldn't of asked for a more perfect place for my date and I!!!!!!! 1/9/2007

Great place, talked to the owner and everything the service is soo nice i took my girl friend there based on these review and they did not fail me. I went a little early around 6:30ish and here was no one there, but a little later the place became packed. friendly people, oh btw Great Prices i'm a college student and this place did not hurt my wallet at all!!! (two people, food, wine, & tip around 70ish) The scenery is calm, cool, nice, and the bar is the same great place to stop at for a pre club night. :) Rich enough to impress, affordable enough to go back! The waiters made us feel cozy, warm and like we were the only couple in the place Highly recommendable experience. AAA+++ :) Pros: Ambience, Prices, Service, Size Cons: slightly noisy but not disturbing more

Not sure what all the great reviews are about... 12/31/2006

We went here a couple of weeks ago with some friends for a nice group dinner (5 of us). Ordered the beef carpaccio which had no flavor. I was expecting a sauce to come with it (as in most recipes) but it didn't, and the beef was very bland. When we told the waiter we weren't happy with it, we were laughed at and told ""that is how it's served"". They did take it off the bill, however. The atmosphere is not sleek or trendy or anything, and I would say the average age of diner here is approximately 55. It looks like it's in someone's basement and as another review said, outfitted by Ikea. And the wine list is not impressive, btw. Not recommended at all. Pros: good location Cons: food tastes pre-made, lack of flavor, poor ambience. more

Love the food, love the service....love it all! 11/13/2006

I've been visiting bar.vetro for a few years now and it keeps getting better with age...just like their wine! The food is fantastic and the service is impeccable. Whenever I have clients or family in town, we always have dinner there. I also like that they change the menu ever so oftern to keep it seasonal. Plus it's conveniently located near the subway and it's so great to be greeted as you enter and leave the restaurant. What can I say...execpt to check it out! Pros: Great for ""get-togethers"" Cons: Small wine list more

My new go to 9/25/2006

I work in the area and have always looked for a good place to go nearby. I was so excited to discover Bar Vetro when a date took me their for drinks in their lounge. Cool modern bar, great wine by the glass...we ended up staying for dinner. I had an amazing shrimp salad and freshly made pesto pasta. From the moment we walked in we felt like regulars. Am going back for lunch today. Pros: Staff and Service, Food and Ambience more

This is a great place. Food and service are amazing. I have been there a handful of times and everyone in there treats me like a star when I walk in. It always comes out cheaper than expected. I highly reccomend this place. more

Exceptional across the board 1/24/2006

Recently I've tried: Italian hummus: fresh, tasty Italian variation, with a spicy note; served with toasted bruschette; only $3. Spaghetti & meatballs: large portion very savory; served with both Italian sausage (sweet) and meatballs (very nice). Veal scallopine parmigiano: 3 tender filets in a lemon sauce. Great. Hamburger: Stands out; I hear it's one of their most popular items. Perhaps the best I've had in NYC; at $12 it cannot be beat. Order the fries crispy if you do not like non-crispy fries (they're good, though). Diners next to me were jealous when the burger arrived. Ice cream, chocolate sauce, walnuts: Beautifully presented in a martini glass. Walnuts a bit stale -- a disappointment for a place with their act together in every other respect. Desserts are $7 apiece. Fruit plate was extremely generous, very juicy -- simple presentation on a carved pineapple boat. Pros: A stand-out, Tell people, Wallet-friendly more

Great burger; look forward to more 1/15/2006

A fresh, luscious burger with gorgonzola cheese brought me back a second time. I now look forward to touring much more of the menu. Every indication is I will not be disappointed. Perfectly prepared meals, tasty, at excellent prices. Do yourself a favor and check it out. Decor is clean, sleek and elegant. Service is very good. Manager (Tony) is gracious, welcoming and friendly. Pros: Taste, Value, Elegant more

ikea fabulous 8/25/2005

the furnishing def looks like it came right out of an ikea catelog but the candles add a nice touch and the staff is very friendly and constantly there, my wine glass was empty only once and for less than a minute. food is ok, nothing amazing but i would go back for the ambiance. nice place for a date Pros: great service, nice ambiance more

Excellent food, attentive staff 6/20/2005

This is my favorite restaurant in the city! They make you feel like it's ""your place"" by always greeting you at door (which is nice when I bring in clients and friends), and the food is inexpensive and delicious. My favorite dish is the pappardelle with lobster, but the steak and poached salmon are also really good. One of the best things about this place are the appetizers, since they have so many unique things to choose from (I always get the clams and the zucchini!) and they're all like $7 or $8 each. Definitely a find. Pros: great food, attentive staff, chic ambiance more

Imitation Crab... 6/17/2005

Although the waitstaff surpassed expectations and the decor is minimalist chic, the food is a complete turnoff. The ""homemade pasta"" was straight from the Barilla box. When sent back, the entree was replaced by a good seafood salad and was comped. A very apologetic maitre d' was very gracious. I would go back, but just for the drinks, atmosphere, and people. Pros: ambiance, waitstaff Cons: food more

A New York Must!! 4/8/2005

I took my wife there this evening after reading all the wonderful reviews and I must say that this was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had anywhere. The food is above average but it tastes even better due to the genually nice, attentive service. Please visit, as this is exactly the type of restaurant that needs to flourish. I will recommend this restaurant to everybody. Pros: service, drinks, food Cons: none!! more

beautiful interior 4/7/2005

came here after reading all the reviews, the place is small sexy and beautiful. it was nice to get away from the village and soho, and come here, the place is classy yet relaxing, i love the lighting and the candles, THE WINE is amazing. i loved it.. the food is okay nothing spectaculor but it is good, and great portions, and even better prices....i like the bartender she is very attentive practically runs the whole show....well its on my top five so clearly i will go back again and again Pros: sexy, lighting, wine Cons: service, food more

good find/value for the area 4/5/2005

Pretty decent place for midtown east location. Food is good, service is great. Portions were not that big. Liked the atmosphere. more

Great food, great service 2/4/2005

I highly recommend! My favorite neighborhood place - a hip downtown feel with good music (some Italian pop!), even though it's in midtown. The food is great, and really well-priced, which is one of the reasons I keep going back -- try the tasting dishes with the mussels, baked clams, or scallops (amazing!). The service is excellent: not too in-your-face, but very attentive, and the sangrias and fragolinas are to die for. :) Pros: great food, great service, not expensive more

I do not recommend... 1/22/2005

OK, I've been in New York City for 9 years, and been to many many restaurants. But this place has nothing special than any other so so neighborhood restaurants. Food was OK, nothing extraordinary, service was OK and ambiance was OK. It was dark and small, filled with business people and old people. You can try once if you want, but I think that will be it. I wouldn't go there ever again. more
