Favorite Italian Restaurant! - best PIZZA in NYC 12/4/2010

I frequent this place because I work close by. I think it's great and one of the best Italian Restaurants in the city. The Antipasto bar is delicious.! (include the eggplant capinata (sp?) on your plate... amazing!) and the Pizza is incredible (super think crust, brick oven.. just get the margarita) ..sometimes we order a pizza for the table to start.. it's very thin. And enjoy the bread they bring to the table..it's awesome! We usually order pasta dishes, i love the clams, but everything is great! It can get very noisy in the main room, so I try to request a booth. We've always had great service with friendly wait staff (some are actors and very fun). And we use the private rooms for private dining, which is great. The drinks are nice too. nice size martinis and wine.. they give you a carafe, so it's like a glass and 1/2.. also, the iced tea is wonderful! It's on the pricey side (entrees in the $20s) drinks about $14.) It's a nice place for drinks at the bar and a plate of antipasto (you can choose your favorite items for your plate), or for a full blown dinner. Definitely a must see in NYC.. you'll get a great NYC experience if you're traveling from out of town. You'll remember this place! more

GREAT 5/10/2008

This place is GREAT the service was excellent our waiter Joe was the best waiter i ever had in my life ask for him the food was great and the dessert was great also im going back real soon the veal parm was great Pros: wait staff food everything more

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! 2/20/2008

You gotta try the Margarita Pizza! I know, I know...pizza everywhere in nyc, BUT this was the thinnest, most crispy holy trinity -crust-sauce and cheese-of pizza perfection!!! I LOVE the wine list-Sonoma Cutrer and Stags Leap-wow! Perfect! Coming from SF,being a bit of a wine snob, its so pleasent to see quality wines vs. just ordering by color as I am used to doing in NYC. No wonder this place was packed! Pros: food-wine-staff Cons: so crowded more

Best Restaurant in NYC 11/28/2006

I shuddered when I read the the upstate NYer's hostile words about my favorite NYC restaurant. If they were only wise enough to TRY the Veal Parmigiana, they would not only have tasted one of the most flavorful, tender, delicious veal ever, but they'd eat their words regarding portion size. I usually have to take half home for lunch the next day, it's so awesomely large. Pros: Best food in NYC-- pastas, meats, pizzas with paper-thin crusts, GREAT service, friendly staff. Cons: Noisey when crowded, expensive. more

Amazing food, super friendly environment, and great location!!!!!! 7/21/2006

From the second I walked into Trattoria Del Arte I felt welcome. The very stylish and charismatic matrade greeted us with such enthusiasm I could have sworn he new us! (Later I found out his name is Brandon. Make sure to ask to him! He's a doll!) Once seated I had the most amazing fried artichokes, eggplant rollatini, and tuna steak! Everything was extremely fresh, and with the extensive choice of wines, I could never try them all. Plus our waiter kept us laughing the entire meal. Now I've lived in New York my whole life, and have never found a restaurant that makes me feel so welcome! Keep up the good work Trattoria!!!!!!! Pros: Fresh & super delicious food Cons: Can't think of one. more

Very good food, celeb sightings & loud! 7/16/2006

I have eaten regularly at Trattoria dell' Arte for over 5 years. Usually I sit at the bar, but I have also dined at tables. It's a shame a few of the other reviewers had a disappointing experience at this restaurant but realistically there's no restaurant that can please everyone all the time. It's true this place can get VERY loud, especially on fall-winter-spring weekends before 8pm showtimes and I have seen lines stretch out the front door. The bar is extremely friendly and a great place to chat with other patrons. There is seating galore (including outside, upstairs and two private rooms downstairs!). There is a fantasic Antipasto Bar with an incredible variety of delicious, fresh vegetables, seafood, etc. Their cracker-thin pizzas are the best I've had. The Tordelli with bolognese sauce is wonderful and my latest must have dish. I've eaten most of the menu and have not been disappointed. True, it is not a cheap eats place but I do think you get a good value for the quality of food served. more

Top of the Line in NY! 7/5/2006

I have to say that this restaurant is the top of the line in NYC. I get so frustrated when I go out, I can NEVER find a restaurant that has GREAT food and AWESOME service. This is the place! Can you tell me another restaurant that is inviting and makes you feel like your at home? Can you tell me of a restaurant that passes out trays of cookies, chocolates & sparkling wine...FOR FREE! Well if you can Iwould love to know. Until then I am going to continue to visit Trattoria Dell Arte! Pros: Fried Artichokes, Tuna Filet, Pizza Cons: When there is something big going on at Carnegie, It can get a littel Crazy...Make sure you make a RESERVATION! more

I love this place!!! 6/30/2006

I don't know what these people or talking about, unless you have to know someone to get good service, I absolutely have no complaints about this place! Yes, it is expensive, but what do you expect from its location? I have had only the best at this place and the cannoli's are to die for. Ask for George, he'll take care of you! Pros: Great food, great service Cons: Expensive more

Teflon Restaurant 5/2/2006

The service is lacking, the tables are too close together, and the food is just okay at this teflon oldie, which despite these drawbacks seems to get good reviews. I suppose its location, just across from Carnegie Hall and the NY City Center, is a plus, but neither the food nor the decor (perhaps titillating in the 80s but old hat now) nor the service (ranging from diffident to obsequious) justifies its rating or the prices they charge. It is impossible to have a conversation without adjacent tables overhearing everything you say. Pros: Antipasti Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Horrible Service 11/20/2005

Went to this restaurant with a group of friends and had the worst service. The waiter forgot many orders and argued with guests. Besides having an attitute and being very rude to us he also messed up the bill. Would never go back! more

Honest Review....Don't waste your time. 4/1/2005

This place came recommended by the concierge at our hotel. The food was just average. The atmosphere was not bad but the food was just sub par. Maybe it was an off night, maybe not. We were looking forward to a good meal too. more

quiet, please? 11/12/2004

While they boast ""loud atmosphere"", to my disappointment, while out at a corporate dinner, my group was asked to be quiet at the request of a dining couple. This, after our bill had well exceded $2,000.00! If a quiet environment is what they strive for, then they should advertise the ambience quite differently. I certainly will not be recommending Trattoria Dell' Arte to colleagues in the future. Where the food was good, the overall experience could have been alot better. If yuppies want quietude, then Italian really isn't your thing. But the restaurant staff should know better than to contradict their own credo. Pros: food more

Not as impressed as I used to be 9/21/2004

I don't know what happened to this place, the last coupel of times i have been there just turned me off. I sat for dinner by myself, had an appetizer, 1 entree and drinks - with tip my bill was exactly $100 dollars. This place, although decent, is definitely not deserving of these prices. I could not also believe how loud it was. It is honestly one of the loudest places i have ever been to in NY. Can't say i would want to go back any time soon. Defenitely felt rushed as well. Pros: food Cons: , Ultra loud, drinks more

A favorite all-around Italian eatery 7/18/2004

I have been here several times with friends and family and have never left unhappy. The ultra thin crust pizza is a great starter, I loved the wild boar pasta, and the fish dishes have all been very good. The outdoor seating is also a nice plus. Pros: not too crowded, parking, good service more

Good food and good service 1/28/2004

While on business in New York, Trattoria was suggested to me by a native. Had a very enjoyable meal. Outstanding antipasti bar, good pasta and very good service. Ambiance was fun and as a solo diner they made me feel very comfortable. I will be back. more

Interesting decor, interesting food 12/18/2002

Nice restaurant with friendly staff. The service was good eaven tgough it was crowded. The mussels were good size and there was plenty of them for an appeizer. The steaks were a little overcooked, but delicious nonetheless. Pros: Good appetizers, Friendly service Cons: Overcooked steaks more

Eat and Run 10/12/2002

Although the food was quite good, I must say I felt like I was in a cafeteria. As soon as they took our appetizers away, there was someone handing me my entree. I'm sorry, but I need a few minutes to relax and sip my beverage before having food shoved in my face. This is definitely not the place to go if you're looking for a quiet dinner. The waiter/waitress staff clearly are looking to get you out as quick as possible and management needs to be made aware of this. Also, the lighting on the ground floor makes you feel like you're in a library..way too bright. I was disappointed with the entire experience. Don't plan on going back anytime soon. Pros: food Cons: terrible lighting, unrelaxed atmosphere, loud more

Same as all the Rest........ 6/20/2002

Food is good - but no better than any other italian restaurant in NY; service/ambience, again - ok, but no better than the others. Biggest complaint - the wine list - don't offer good vintages on the menu and bring over different years upon ordering - 1998 is NOT the same as 1997. For the price - try another restaurant. more

Just wonderful! 5/22/2002

I can't explain the bad ratings. This has been one of my favorite restaurants for years! The desserts are amazing (esp. choc. cheesecake) and I've always received good service. Fav. dishes: mushroom risotto, pasta w/lobster and truffle oil, seafood stew w/toast appetizer, & salmon cooked in clay pot. For more intimate tables, ask for upstairs seating. We've gone here for Valentine's Day 2 years in a row--not very romantic, but they don't price gouge like everybody else in town! Pros: Great food, Nice staff, Relaxed atmosphere more
