Best

I want to work to this place which will make life happening.

Worst

This bar is okay, theres nothing specifically special about it, but the waitress we had was horrible. She wasn't happy with her tips, and didnt understand that to have good tips ...

So Friendly 11/30/2007

We had such a good time. The entire staff was very friendly, and management checked on us to make sure we were all happy. Nice drink specials and really pretty lounge. Thanks Gypsee. more

... 11/28/2007

This place is a lot of fun. good music cheap drinks and MOST people who work there are nice. but as a regular customer who spent alot of my money there over time, i became disappointed when they blamed incidents that happened there on me (other people drinking too much, other patrons randomly saying stuff to me). guess what, the type of people this place attracts beg for drama, they couldve asked me what happened, after the amount of times i was there. but apparently that was too much trouble. there are more mature places to go without so much drama, allll over ny, and ill suggest such places to my friends whenever this place comes up. very disappointed and wish i could get all my money back. more

Coolest spot ever!!! 11/21/2007

Hey let me tell you something about this place. Great atmosphere, great music, great decor! I've been here several times and always felt just as good coming out as I did going in. The staff is great, they have never given me a bad attitiude and always willing to help. Felt more like my own personal hangout pad! I highly recommend it! Also a great first date place! Fellas trust me when I say she'll be impressed! Pros: 3 different areas to play in, music and general ambience was great Cons: As any place would have theirs is the bathrooms! Not very comfortable, toilets could have been cleaner more

PARTY!!! 11/13/2007

I have been here many times for drinks after work because thier happy hour is off the hook but I didn't realize how great and easy it was to book a table there. It was my bf's birthday the other day Gypsy the party coordinator was just so great I think I will have my b-day at the FBPC!!! THANKS GYPSY!!!! Pros: booking a table, tasty martinis more

Had a Great Time 11/12/2007

I saw the place on CitySearch and went with my friends last weekend. Very fun and friendly vibe. We had a nice couch section in the lounge, but later went downstairs to dance. We really like the drink specials and variety of rooms. Waiter was very friendly as well. Pros: vibe, friendly staff Cons: bathrooms small. more

Loud and crowded, Morraccan is nice decor 11/12/2007

At first sight this place is almost a hole in the wall, as is everything in NYC. However when you walk up there is a large intimidating man standing at the door talking on his phone, he puts his hands up in front of you and requests ID's. Though taken aback by this rude behavior, we comply (my husband and I). I must admist we are not generally the club going type, so the loud music (becomes ridiculously loud as the night progresses) and the packed as tight as sardines feel was not pleasant in any sense, especially when you are trying to have a conversation with someone which must be discouraged since you can't hear anything other then the loud music. The decor was nice though in the Morroccan room, drinks were ok, other then that I can't say I have anything else to say about this place, except it is not a great place to have people over for conversations or meeting. If you plan on doing a party, go here afterwards to dance and have fun, it is not a relax and have a good time place, more of a get drunk and get pushed around place (by their own wait staff!) Pros: Nice Morraccan Decor Cons: Patrons that go there ruin the decor, crowded, loud. more

What a great place 10/29/2007

I love this place. I love to hang out in the beautiful Moroccan room, and I love all the drink specials. Extremely friendly and a variety of atmospheres. I can't say enough - seems to be very well run. more

FBPC... Excellent Place To Have A Party 10/7/2007

I actually threw a party for my boyfriend back in August and we had a GREAT time. Heather the events coordinator was especially great she answered all my questions and concerns and everything turned out PERFECT. Get there early it does get CROWDED... but everyone dancing makes it all the more fun. Music is great, a nice selection of new and old school hip hop, R& B and pop. Drink prices were defintely reasonable and the staff is EXCELLENT. We were able to come early and make several different trips to drop off supplies needed for the night and our waitress checked in on us to make sure everything was ok. The VIP area was a little small for my group but other than that we had a blast. Plan on having my birthday party there!!! Pros: Excellent staff, Decent drinks, Great Music Cons: Crowded more

Good Place to have a B-day 9/30/2007

Had my b-day party at the fat black pusscat, and the place was awesome. Very diverse, the three environments was great, would definitely comeback. The bill at the end of the night was very reasonable. I actually thought it would be more, so the place rocked. One minor problem was that we reserved two tables for 23 people in the Moroccan lounge and when we got there we only had a table for 10 people to sit. But since most of us just stand talking and dancing it was not a big deal. Pros: Dancing, hang out, atmosphere more

Excellent Customer Service 9/1/2007

I booked a small party of twelve people last Saturday and have to admit that the service was great. We had reservations on the main floor and then changed them for downstairs and they had no problem with the change. We loved the music and how particular the entrance was of who they let in. The waitress was always checking if we needed anything and if everthing was ok. We felt very comfortable....although the mojitos from the first floor tasted better then the ones from the bottom floor. That would be the only thing. They prepared my drink specifically the way I asked them to. I had a great time and will go back very soon. I do have to say that they have a great host...event planner...she did a verygood job. Fat Black Pussycat is a real great place to celebrate your birthday! Thanks a bunch! more

best spot in manhattan old favorite, lowest cover charge, best drinks and top noch music 8/30/2007

nothing compares to the fat black. the mood is noir and the bouncers cool. to those that come often your treated like old friends. music is always perfect never had an off night. dj is sweet, playing your favorities. drinks off charts and prices just right. its great to have a spot to go to that is top noch and the cover charge and drinks are reasonable. i have met some people because of fat black that have touched my world. some of the phatest souls are at fat black. if you find your thinking that you should have got that number from that beautiful lady or handsome man no dought just meander back some friday or saturday night and you just might see them again for once you go to the fat black, it will drag you back, she's tailed you good like a cat to string, addicted! so ladies slink your way down in your favorite sacha london heels and mind bending outfits and boys get sharp and edgey cause the cat has class. and go lounge in the upper deck and sip swanky cocktails and slink down to the moody tunnel to dance the night away to the best sounds in ny.go fat black you will never go back. Pros: atmosphere, music, drinks, cover charge Cons: can't get enough more

best place for a party. great music 8/19/2007

I had my bday here and it was great. they played good hiphop and r&b music. My friends were able to dance and have fun. There is no bottle requirement to reserve a table so that was good. Most places in nyc have bottle requirements to reserve a table which suckz but this lounge doesnt. the lounge was very nice. the seats were comfy and the drinks were good. they were not watered down like some places and they were decent price. The only thing is that it gets really crowded after midnight. I would definitely throw a party here again. Pros: fun lounge. place of good drinks with great atmosphere and music Cons: crowded more

Terrific door policy! Guys if you dont like if get out of dodge! 8/9/2007

I as a rule like to go these place that dont lets groups of guys in without girls if makes me feel safe. I see these reviews people write guys not getting in etc etc. That is to prevent trouble at the bar and lawsuits as a result of trouble wether it because fights or sexual trouble. Guys you have understand they dont pay the bouncers enough to deal with that and nor would they want to. Guys you know the drill dont coming crying and moaning, this is NYC you know how it works here and why it works the way it works if you dont like it you have options get out doge, simple as that but please dont moan they are not going to chanage their policy to suit you, you must realize this. Keep up the good work FBPC more

Great Time 8/2/2007

We had a great party at the Pussycat. Everything was just as promised. Heather was great setting us up and checking on us. She even followed up with us on Monday to make sure we had a good time. Our waitress Sarah was beyond friendly. Drinks were big and tasty. We loved the atmosphere, the crowd and the fact that we got to use all three rooms. Really loved the decor in the lounge room especially. Pros: 3 rooms, attentive management Cons: upstairs bathroom need renovating more

Over Rated 7/13/2007

It's a shame this place has so many good reviews on here - maybe they hired someone to write them that is all I can figure. I heard about this place a while ago and my friends and I were in the area so we decided to check it out...BIG MISTAKE. Took us forever to get in....Tinkerbelle you are right, bouncers and staff have HUGE egos; putting you in a bad mood before you even get in!! One was starting an argument with me. You'd think this place was some high class hot spot with how they treat the people in line. The crowd was pretty trashy, the place is pretty dumpy. Dude letting people in to where the dancing was - completely rude and ridiculous, only letting girls in - which would be great for the guys, except they wouldn't let any in! Find another place, despite the intriguing name this place is really no good. Not worth your time - go somewhere else trust me. Pros: cheap, stiff drinks Cons: rude bouncers, too crowded to move, don't let guys in downstairs more

love the band 7/13/2007

These guys got it right. I met up with a few friends there for some drinks the other night and had a great time. We totally didn't realize that they have live music there. So much fun. We went there before I guess it was on a weekend and there was a DJ downstairs so I was a little dissapointed that there was a band but they were great. I will totally be back more

Not a good experience 7/13/2007

bad experience here. complained to the owner and he was very apologetic and also took immediate action which was much appreciated. I have been here before and it was fun.....I'm sure this place is typically a much better experience, unfortunately the staff ruined it for me this time. Pros: cheap drinks, attentive bartenders Cons: rude bouncers/DJ's with big egos more

I would not go here 7/13/2007

Yes the drinks are cheap, yes they have decent music, but have you ever been somewhere where the rude, ridiculous staff completely ruins your time? The bouncers harassed my friends and I on MORE than one occasion the last time we visited this bar. It was appalling. Not worth it - there are many other better places in the city to go. more

Excellent & Friendly Staff, Cool Lounge, Good Drinks 5/20/2007

I planned a Girls Night Out party in the Moroccan Lounge this weekend. What a fabulous set-up! It was the perfect space from the swaying lanterns above to the plush yet funky table setting. There was even an antique style thrown chair for the bride to sit at. The staff was incredible. I can't say enough about them. They were very cool and fun. They went above and beyond for our group. We all agreed that it was the BEST SERVICE that we have EVER experienced in NYC! There was definitely a great crowd and a good vibe going on there too. There is so much to do there but we just stayed at our table and had a blast. If you have a large party 8-10 people... I would suggest reserving a table a buying a bottle. It's well worth it. Pros: Awesome Staff, Perfect Lounge Space Cons: none more

Great bar, great staff 5/19/2007

I went last night with a group of friends for my birthday and reserved a table in the Moroccan Lounge which was beautiful. Everyone was so friendly from the bouncers to the party coordinators. This is a great place to party if you're sick of the pretentious velvet roped bars and lounges in the city that treat you like a you're a nobody if your not a celebrity. There was such a laid-back vibe in the entire bar and my friends and I hung out in the lounge as well as the club downstairs. Thank you Heather and Jennifer for taking customer service to the next level and our waitress Sara for being such a sweetheart! We had so much fun and we are definitely coming back very soon. Pros: A+ service, good music, cheap/strong drinks, great atmosphere Cons: bathrooms could use a makeover more

Editorial
  • The Scene On the surface, this bar appears to be just another noisy, crowded after-work or after-school scene. But move beyond the cramped front room and find a casual crowd unwinding in a lively space with wooden booths, quirky wall art and mini table-side TVs. For the real surprise, slip behind a side curtain into a lavish bohemian lounge where would-be couples sink into inviting velvet couches amid Moroccan lanterns. The Draw Plasma TVs, dartboards, Web-access terminals, a jukebox, a pool table--there are enough diversions to occupy even the shortest attention span. The drink selections--beer, cognac, martinis--suit a variety of tastes, and raspberry liqueurs give the bar's namesake drink an appropriately robust flavor. While more obvious choices exist for meeting people and kicking back (or making out), this split-personality feline is ideal for those who want to keep their options open.
