The best Indian restaurant! 3/10/2011

Last week, I went to the Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant in Downtown Manhattan. The Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant is a fine dining place where the food is absolutely finger-licking good, and the service is quick. Samosas and thick pita breads called naans were given as appetizers. The chicken tikka masala and shrimp biryani were the perfect lunch combo and very affordable. The manager was also nice enough to hand out free custards to the customers. The experience was quite lovely and ravishing. The bathrooms are spotless and the whole place is clean. The sodas are always filled when empty and the waiters are fast and polite. I can't wait to come back here again. more

Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant 1/21/2011

The Taj Mahal restaurant has a very satisfying food and the service is great. It's delicious and one of the best restaurants i ever went to. The floors are not dusty at all and the bathroom is also clean. Every critic or person should go there since that when you first eat then you can never forget the aroma and fragrance of that food. I's very tasty like the chicken tikka masala, garlic nan, and mulligawtany soup, and fried shrimp. They also gave me dessert and i was really surprised. This is a very great restaurant. Try this restaurant and I hope you have the best time of your life. Also the restaurant is so clean.:] more

Very good food but SLOW service 10/21/2010

My meal at Taj Mahal was excellent, but it was almost 45 minutes from placing the order to getting served (one serving of chana saag and a chapati), and this at 6:00 with only three other occupied tables in the restaurant. The other party that arrived at the same time also got slow service. more

Channa Bhaji Rocks! 1/31/2003

We get a hankerin' for Indian and nothing satisfies like this place. Every time we hit Curry Row we say we are going to try a different restaurant but since we have been in at least 2 others and neither makes my Channa Bhaji like Taj Mahal, we don't risk it. The Vegetable Biryani is yummerific and the Vegetable Pakora are sinfully delicious! Pros: Channa Bhaji, Value Cons: Smallish tables more

amazing bargain 6/15/2002

this is a great if not shady restaurant. One meal, including appetizers, main course (one meat, one vegetarian), dessert & coffee -- $18 TOTAL FOR TWO PEOPLE. Food was very good to boot - one downside is no liquor license but there is a liquor store next door... Pros: value, food Cons: weird ambience more

Individuating the Indian 5/19/2002

Rumor has it that all the Indian restaurants on the South side of East Sixth Street share the same kitchen. It's a decent kitchen, so no one complains. So how do you select one place over another? Some have a sitar player; others flashier decorations. If you're celebrating a birthday, I'd definitely recommend Tajmahal. I don't remember the dessert item but when it was brought out flashing lights overhead threw colored beams on the walls and a young waiter came over to our table and did a little dance that was Bollywood MTV for the East Village set. Lots of sideward pelvic thrusts driven by a Middle Eastern beat and self-admiration in the mirror. The guest of honor laughed herself to tears. We all tipped well. Pros: Price Cons: Generic more
