Fun afterwork spot 8/10/2008

I really enjoyed your Karaoke last thurs! And 2 for 1 happy hour was great while it lasted. Keep up the good work!!! more

Great bar ok food 7/24/2008

I visited TG on a Thursday evening with a few co-workers. The music was great but extremely loud. This is a great place if you are in the mood to groove, not such a good place if you want to be able to have a conversation. The service was great but the food was just average. more

Not a good value 6/21/2008

I have been hitting bars in this neighborhood for about 5 years. After Fubar and CB6 went down we had to find a new local watering hole. There was a happy hour scheduled at Black Finn with coworkers but that place gets so over-packed we thought we would walk down the street and give T.G. Whitneys a shot. About the only good thing is that we had space. At the end of the night I realized why we had so much space. The prices were high, I think I got 1 free beer on a $120 tab. Shots of Patron were $10 each and use the smallest of shot glasses. If you are just going out with friends once in a while and want to try someplace new and you are not looking for value this place would work since you should have space. They had karaoke that night and was not impressed, if you want karaoke you are better off at a bar like Brother Jimmys. Pros: plenty of space Cons: bartenders/mgmt need to learn how to hook up customers more

One of the few places for good karaoke 10/16/2007

Honestly I was surprised. I've tried a few of the so-called karaoke hot-spots (2nd on 2nd, Sing Sing, Keats, Iggy's) and have been disappointed by pay-for-play nonsense and catering to regulars. Pros: so far so good! Cons: slightly awkward setup for the accident prone more

Great Prices, Fun Bartenders 10/9/2006

This bar is a great place to go afterwork. It's got great music and a very fun crowd. Not too many frat boys! The prices are just right- It's nice to go out afterwork and not break the bank. Thanks to the bartenders for hookin' me up with song selections! Will be back. more

Great Karaoke Without a Crowd 6/19/2006

We went to celebrate my husbands birthday with about 15 friends and had a blast. We didn't want to rent out a private karaoke room, so we figured we'd brave the crowds, but it was almost completely empty except for us for most of the evening (it was a Sat Night). So we pretty much took over the place and the karaoke - it was like having a private karaoke room without having to pay for it, with more space, and the bar right there. I wouldn't recommend it if you're just a few people as an empty place may not be too much fun, but if you're going with a large group and not looking to meet new people, it's a great deal and lots of fun. Pros: Great Karaoke, no crowds Cons: Not good if you're looking to meet new people or g more

Great After-Work Spot 4/21/2006

My co-workers and I have been going to Whitney's for happy hour for two years, and we always have a good time. The drinks are reasonably priced and the happy hour deals are great (especially 2 for 1's!!!). The food is pretty good and the staff is always friendly and fast. It's a great neighborhood spot for anyone who likes a laid-back bar with good service. Pros: Staff, Happy Hour Specials Cons: Crowded Thurs. & Fri. more

Perfect upstairs party room! 4/21/2006

I worked with Frank and he set up a great party for me. Gave us the entire upstairs room, drinks were great, patio was perfect. A success! highly recommend this bar for any get together or party! Pros: fun more

Manager is terrible 2/23/2006

it was suppose to be OPEN bar for my corporate party... but so much liquor was not included, how is that an open bar? and He stopped the OPen bar before 11pm when we were guarenteed till then. Pros: bartender was nice Cons: the manager more

Free Karaoke! This place rocks! 1/18/2006

No where else in the city could my girlfriends and I have a 30th birthday party with karaoke for free!!! The owner generously reserved us tables for free and then the fun karaoke host (I think his name was Matt??) let us sing all night long, again for free! It was so nice to go out on a Friday night in Manhattan and not have to spend over 100 a person to have a good time. thanks TG Whitneys, we'll be back! more

Not really 2 for 1 10/23/2005

A word of warning about the happy hour 2 for 1 promotion. It only applies to well drinks and the tasteless beers. Went with a group of friends one night and asked why we werent getting the drink tokens and 2 for 1 drinks. The bartender explained it was domestic beer only. We reminded her Brooklyn was actually just across the river so how much more domestic could you get? Then she qualified it to mean Bud, Miller and Coors. No micro-breweries, nothing with a foreign name. So basically its rip-off unless you like those beers and cheap vodka. Go someplace where they actually mean it. more

Midtown Happy Hour Blast 9/9/2005

Nice place, great happy hour, fun times. Come here for the stiff drinks and good prices. Just don't venture into the bathrooms as the last time I was there it was covered in human oatmeal. Pros: Bartenders, Drinks, Prices Cons: Food, Crowded more

Unexpected Fun! 9/16/2004

A few nights ago some friends and I met for a few birthday drinks after work at T.G.Whitney's. We ended up staying all night long and having a really memorable night! The staff was fun and the Karaoke was a blast. The whole bar was singing and dancing and we will definately be back! Pros: Inexpensive, Nice Staff, Smoking Garden more

Great Value 5/6/2003

I went there with some freinds on a Monday night, a relaxed atmosphere and good music, not too loud at all. We ordered a few pitchers and food, it came in a timely manner and the bartender was freindly. All in all, best value for drinks I found in Midtown. more

Great Spot 12/9/2002

T.G. Whitney's is a great place to spend the night. Quality food and a friendly staff, give this place the edge over other local hot spots. Bring your own crowd and enjoy the music and frequent cheap specials. Pros: Friendly, Good Music more

Not just for after work 10/21/2002

I first went to T.G. Whitney's for a private work party in the upstairs room...it was the perfect setting, with its own bar, a friendly bartender, and good food. So coworkers, friends and I have been going there for drinks ever since. The downstairs is much larger, but we always get good service--the bartenders all know how to draw a perfect pint and don't mind when we get a little rowdy. Just went on a Saturday night--good crowd (no one too obnoxious, and a decent mix of guys AND girls) and good music. I'm signing up to become a guest bartender... more
