We always have our company parties there because the service is excellent. Social really goes above and beyond to make sure that our guests are accomodated. The space is great too. I would recommend this to any size group wanting to book an event or even you if want a great happy hour after work. Pros: music, space, staff more

Typical midtown bar scene 6/21/2004

We went here for my friend's birthday and we all had a good time. We hung out on the 2nd floor where the crowd was minimal and we weren't bothered too much by the bridge and tunnel crowd. There were a good number of tourists... two different groups of people asked us advice about what to do while in NYC. One of the reasons we chose this bar for the birthday bash was because they had an outdoor roof area for smokers, however, this was closed with no good explanation as to why... The highlight for me was that they had Hefeweizen on tap... one of my favorite beers and difficult to find. Pros: beer choices, location, outdoor roof? Cons: , outdoor roof? more

Forgot our party 4/15/2004

I booked a party at Social 6 weeks in advance. The manager agreed to reserve the 3rd floor for our group; we were guaranteeing 75 people. When I called to confirm, she had forgotten about my party and told me she had a party that had booked ""a month ago."" She said there was nothing she could do since their party was confirmed. This is not the right way to run a business; she didn't even apologize! I won't be going back. There are plenty of other bar managers who know what it means to make (and keep!) a reservation. Pros: Rooftop seating, Good location Cons: , Forgetful manager, Forgetful manager more

Nice place to hang out 11/28/2003

This is a fun bar to hang out with friends and still be able to talk. We really liked the music and it was a great atmosphere. I only wish there was a dance floor! more

Great AFter Work 10/9/2003

Place is exactly what the neighborhood needs. It's basicaly Sutton Place West, without the frat boys (but still with the firemen). The place is well decorated with a friendly staff. So far, so good... Pros: wide open space, open roof deck, gorgeour decor Cons: Music could be better, no happy hour prices more

A truly great place to socialize! 9/24/2003

Wow! Social just opened, but this is fabulous! 3 floors, nicely done in a similar style, but each floor has a distinct feel. The 1st floor is a standard pub/sports bar, but has a section in the back with seats & tables. Upstairs is a lounge area with a separate bar AND a separate Guiness only tap room decorated like an English library in red leather & wood. The 3rd floor is a totally separate area, loungish with an open air area for smokers. Everything is done top notch. Service is great & friendly. The menu wasn't available yet when I went (their opening night) but if it's anything like the rest of this bar, it's going to be great! Definitely one of the best pub-like spots to go in the Hell's Kitchen area. Pros: Variety, Great beer, Beatiful more

Owner Message
  • Occupying 3 enormous & well-realized floors in the hottest section of Hell's Kitchen, this newcomer combo won't be hard to find. In the back of the 1st floor sits a sensible & roomy collection of tables where generous helpings from a full-service kitchen supports Social's exertion as a formidable all purpose haunt. A staircase that's been thoughtfully accented leads to a 2nd floor, which marks a half way point between the leisurely neighborhood dynamic of the first floor's pub & the VIP vibe of the 3rd floor's Fusion lounge. The west side of the second floor staircase houses an "Irish room" with dark wood furnishings that complete a stylish interpretation of a modern & traditionally fused Celtic lodge hybrid, complete with a smaller bar that's highly serviceable but intended for its own private corner of this roomy complex.

  • In Short
On the first floor, exposed brick walls and dimly lit chandeliers lend a bit of class, while the four big screen televisions solidify Social's neighborhood status. After work,...
