Great Salon 9/24/2008

I had a great experience at this solon and highly recommend it. Ann is extremely knowledgeable about the products she uses. She is extremely experienced and has a great sense how certain processes will effect different hair. She really listened to me, understood the results I was hoping for, and applied her expertise to achieve it. I don't think I'll let anyone else process my hair (straightening or color) again. more

Best Hair Salon in Manhattan 8/31/2008

Ann and Devon, what can I say! I know! I can say that I don't know what I ever did without you in my life so many years. I walked past your salon every day and never came in because I figured you had to be too expensive, given your location. I had an accident and I fractured my wrist and needed to get my hairblown, finally I had to come in and make an appoinment because your salon was so conveinent, being located literally three doors down from my apartment. Well, thank God I did! The price is more than right! I have been coming for almost a year now, weekly wash and dry, color, cut, the works. Every week I leave looking great, my hair is so much more healthy looking and I am always satisfied with the work that Devon does for me. Finally I have someone who listens to what I want whether it's different color or just a shaping. My former hairstylists always told me they listened but they gave me the highlights they liked and took off more than I asked for every time. Thank you Devon, for listening to what I want and thank you for taking pride in your work. I love the fact that you are close by but I love your work and our stimulating conversations more. I feel right at home every week, so relaxed!\r You two are innovative or traditional, seems you have the whole package. No wonder you are always busy!!!\r Your neighbor and devoted client, Cecelia Pros: Everything more

EXCELLENT 8/30/2008

I feel like I've been to every salon in New York City, always leaving unsatisfied. Who would think it would be this hard to find a good hairdresser in NYC? Then I came to Riah.... I was so happy when I left I just want everyone elso to know! A place where they actually LISTEN, therefore giving me the results I've been looking for. I came in with ok, dull hair. I left with shiny, beautiful highlights and a flattering cut that has lasts! Pros: price, quality Cons: nothing more

Best hairstylist ever (and she doesn't charge an arm and a leg) 4/14/2008

Before I discovered Riah seven years ago, I had been EVERYWHERE (you name it: John Barrett, Oscar Bond, Ouidad, Bumble & Bumble, ETC). They charged a fortune and didn't seem to take any interest in me OR my hair. (Seconds after I'd left their chairs hundreds of dollars poorer, I'm certain they couldn't haven't picked me out of a police line-up if their lives depended on it.)\r \r Thankfully, a friend of mine recommended Ann, the salon owner/head stylist at Riah, and the rest is, er, hairstory. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) Her haircuts are the most flattering I've ever gotten, and they actually grow out just as well, which is a rareity. And as for color, the formulas she uses are so much higher quality than the average stuff you find at salons ? the shades are really bright and rich and they last for ages without wrecking your hair. Plus, Ann is incredibly versatile ? she was equally amazing at giving me edgy-looking color when I went through a rebellious stage as she was at Bergdorf Blonde-esque highlights and everything in between. It's safe to say that at this point, I would happily pay any amount she chose to charge, but by some happy accident she also happens to be totally reasonable: $80 for cuts and $100 and up for color. Sold.\r \r The atmosphere at Riah is very calming, too; no sterile waiting area or snotty receptionist. Just Ann and Devon, happily working away to great music, with priceless Nolita people-watching opportunities on offer courtesy of the salon's giant windows.\r \r Recently, I started going to Ann for Brazilian hair straightening ($300), and there's no one else I'd trust with those chemicals on my hair. Unsurprisingly, the results have been amazing, and she's thrown herself into the process with the same skill and care she applies to her cut and color. \r \r I can't say enough good things about this place ? run, don't walk, away from all those other overrated chop shops and I promise that you'll never look back. Pros: Excellent quality of work and products, Amazing Value, Ambience more

I've been seeing Devon for a few month's now and I'm SO HAPPY! I receive such great attention, my hair looks amazing! The color is so vibrant and shiny. And my cut is flawless. I highly recommend anyone to go to this salon. I have refered a few friends and they all leave thrilled! \r Ann and Devon were so attentive, and open minded, not to mention talented. Pros: prices, attention, talent Cons: nothing more
