The place was pretty clean and easy to find, but it is another case of tattoo artists walking around like they've discovered the cure for cancer.

top parlor in the city 6/3/2008

i had an outstanding experience at red rocket. my artist Betty was friendly and really helped take my mind off the fact that i was covering up a tattoo of my ex wifes name. the rest of the staff was great, they we're all very welcoming and i definitely plan on going back there. good music, nice atmosphere i give it a strong recommend. Pros: awesome staff, great portfolio selection, comfortable setting more

rude staff, slow service, bad quality (good music!) 5/29/2008

first off, i went bc of the good reviews i read on here - i went to price/get a feel and the staff member was extremely rude and unhelpful, so i called to complain --- they told me to come down and theyd make it up to me. i should have relied on my first impression. I came with a drawing ready to go, after waiting around for almost an hour (for what i have no clue, we were the only ones waiting) i finally got my ink -- after i finished i had to have him fix a couple not so straight lines. After it started to heal i noticed it was practically faded off and had alot of white splotches - so i went back, they told me to wait 2 weeks and come back again - i did and they said come back in 1 more week to get re-done. After the 2nd time i figured it would be all good - but he went to do the tat WITHOUT even cleaning off my skin, after i said something he wiped my skin down and re did the entire tattoo. After i was done, i had to have him fix a line again and finally i was satisfied. Then, he just went to walk away - he didnt even attempt to put a dressing on it! this is fresk ink man - i asked him and he cut out a monstrosity of paper and covered me up. Still a month later i have white spots again and went through twice the pain for bad service and a totally over-priced tattoo. I jwent in one last time to seriously see what the deal is -- after waiting for about 15 mins while the staff chatted on their cell phones, i was told i was being NEUROTIC. this is something that is in plain sight, FOREVER...in my opinion, there is something wrong with you if you accept anything less than 100%! DO NOT RECCOMMEND Pros: good music, cool decor Cons: overall bad experience, i didnt feel like they even wanted my business more

I will definitely go back to Adam for my second tattoo. Great for custom tattoos... 5/26/2008

After considering getting a tattoo for years, I finally settled on an idea that is very meaningful to me. Three weeks prior to my appointment, I went to discussed my idea for a custom tattoo and meanings of it with Adam. I loved the fact that he gave me straightforward/ honest opinions regarding colors and size of the tattoo in order to make it nice, while accommodating my requests as much as possible. When I saw the final design on the day of my appointment, I absolutely fell in love with it. He not only created such a beautiful design around the idea I had, but also accurately captured my personality and preferences in his work as well. Also, he is quite nice and funny and does an excellent job with making you feel comfortable despite the pain (I have zero tolerance for pain,) and did an impeccable job within shorter period of time than I expected. My tattoo looks absolutely phenomenal and suits me so well- I couldn't be any happier with it. When I come up with an idea for my second tattoo, I will definitely go back to Adam at Red Rocket for another custom tattoo- Thanks Adam!!! Pros: Very talented tattoo artists. Friendly staff. Good price. Cons: None more

Love my tat 5/10/2008

When I was searching around online for a place to get my fourth tattoo, I narrowed down to this and Inkstop. To tell you the truth, I chose Red Rocket because the commute was easier because I live in Queens, and I had to take only the F train, as opposed to switching for Inkstop. Haha. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon, and the place was busy. I didn't know which artist to work with, although I had an idea of what I wanted. So after talking to one of the tattoo artists, he suggested Erik. I talked to him about exactly what I wanted and set up an appointment for the next day. I absolutely loved the drawing he made, and the tattoo came out awesome!! It was much better than anything I could've thought up. It is definitely my favorite tattoo by far. =] The price was $300 for a custom pin-up girl on the shoulder, and I would say that's a reasonable price. Pros: Very easy to get to via public transportation, all the artists had awesome portfolios Cons: The customer service aspect was disorganized/near-nonexistent more

Great Experience! 3/17/2008

I highly recommend this awesome shop! I was referred to Red Rocket by a few friends who told me there was no better place...I felt immediately at ease when I arrived and met the crew for the first time. Everyone was so chill. I was unsure who I wanted to get tattooed by and after reviewing each artist's portfolio I was even more unsure because they were all so good. The shop was clean and the people were really friendly (not something a typical shop offers). It was a great experience! Pros: Very convenient location. Cons: Not possible more

BEST TATTOO PARLOR IN NEW YORK. GO TO BUDDHA!! 2/10/2008

SIMPLY AMAZING.I just went to get my very first tattoo and this place had great ratings online. Those ratings are right! The parlor is small but VERY clean and cozy. Every artist there was friendly, funny and extremely professional. I guarantee if you are nervous about getting a tattoo, those nerves will be gone if you go here. BUDDHA did my tattoo and I will never go anywhere else! He is hilarious, conversational, and very comforting during the process. He took more time to sit down with me and design my tattoo than to actually DO the tattoo. I was done in 20 minutes and the pain was minimal. So far, it looks amazing and has been totally pain free. I have received an insane amount of compliments on my simple yet personalized tattoo (i got a peace dove on my shoulder/back) The designs i brought in were very plain and Buddha made it so intricate and gorgeous. HIGHLY. RECOMMEND. Pros: EVERYTHING. service. cleanliness. atmosphere. creativity. Cons: no parking? but um..its new york city!! more

So excited about my new tattoos!!! 1/19/2008

This is a great place to get tattoos. I went to Betty (she rocks) - she was really great and did an amazing job on both of my tattoos. I got 2 that day - 1 behind each ear and they really look nice. The pain was bearable (she was pretty quick). If your looking for a new place to get a tattoo or it's your first time - I would really suggest this place. Pros: Very Skilled & Very Friendly more

The creme de la creme 9/25/2007

When I first moved to New York, I knew that I?d have to find an astounding custom tattoo studio in an easy-to-find location so that I could forever remember my first experience in this amazing city. And to make a long story short? I found that place and I?ll never need to go anywhere else. Whether you?re a first timer or a repeat offender to the whole tattoo experience, Red Rocket truly is the creme de la creme. Their artists are friendly, approachable, honest, and most of all, experienced. They dedicate their time to ensure the best possible experience with the greatest result ? remarkable art. So if you?re really in search of custom one-of-a-kind artwork, I really wouldn?t recommend another shop. It?s truly the best there is. more

Ask for Adam Hays 7/30/2007

Granted this was my first tattoo and I really have nothing else to go by, but wow. I am extremely pleased with my tattoo. I was a bit nervous going into it but Adam totally made me feel at ease. I've shown the tattoo to a few of my friends and they're all amazed at the detailed work. These guys know what they're doing, and they're all very friendly people. I highly recommend Red Rocket. Pros: experienced and friendly artists Cons: none more

Gracias Budda! 7/8/2007

I conducted an Internet search for the best tattoo places in New York and obtained really good guidance from citysearch. I started my search downtown at a parlor near west 4 subway, but there, the artist wanted me to change the concept of what I had in mind and had unreasonable fee expectations. Moving on, I concentrated on the customer's reviews that gave Red Rocket excellent marks in friendlyness, cleanliness and skill. On my first visit I was greeted by Budda with a very welcoming face and we discussed the nature of the tattoo I wanted and had a swift agreement on concept and price. This was my first tattoo ever, so the friendly but at the same time professional environment, made it much easier for me to relax and enjoy the process. Budda's steady hand produced a result that much exceeded my expectations! Two days after the fact , Im looking in the mirror and my tattoo looks exactly how I had wanted it and the skin around has almost healed completely. However, I will make sure I follow Budda's post care advise... In conclusion, the overall experience was excellent and I not only have a new tattoo, but also some new friends as well. Pros: Excellent artistry and value Cons: N/A more

Best service and artistry anywhere--HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5/5/2007

These guys are awesome! If you are in NYC and want a tattoo or piercing, do not go anywhere else. We popped in on these guys during our visit from Iowa. We were very impressed by their customer service and totally in awe of their artistry. Budda and the crew took extremely good care of us! If you want quality professional work done in a clean and customer oriented place...you gotta go here! Pros: Quality work, professional, customer service oriented Cons: A little tricky to find if you're from out of town more

if you want a place where people know what they are doing, GO HERE. 3/10/2007

I was sooo nervous about getting my body piercing done, but Alex was very professional and understanding about it. He was attentive and informative and helped me relax. He was extremely patient with me and helped me with my fear. The place was clean and friendly. I will definitely go back for any tattoos or piercings I want in the future. Pros: knowledgable staff thats honest whether you like it or not. Very clean. Nice people! Cons: A little expensive, but well worth it because you are paying for good work! more

great place - clean and friendly - definitely recommended 7/8/2006

I found this place online, called and spoke to Adam who was really nice and seemed knowledgable. This was my first tattoo so I had no idea what to expect - I went there the same day and was impressed with their studio - very bright, clean and all the guys were really cool and friendly, which put me at ease (my sister was with me and she would have made us leave if it was dirty and gross). Although Adam didn't think my tattoo (white ink) was the best idea (he explained why), he agreed to do it because that's what I wanted. He did a great job with it and I'm really happy with the outcome. I would definitely recommend this place - especially to first timers. Thanks Adam. Pros: clean, friendly staff more

You always remember the first time... 8/14/2005

I visited the facilities last week and looked through the portfolios before making a decision on an artist. I spoke to Erik and I felt comfortable with his work. We scheduled an appointment for Friday. I came in and got through the tattoo. I was apprensive of the pain, but Erik told me to take breaths and take breaks to drink if necessary. The final work was amazing and I had no choice but to tip him. This place is definitely great for tattoo virgins. Pros: experienced artists, skilled artists, good customer service Cons: no free parking more

Cover-up tattoo - an outstanding job 8/1/2005

Twelve years ago at the age of 20 I got my first and only tattoo. It was cool, but was not built to last. The detail was too intricate for longevity, and with age, lines in the Celtic knot-work faded into one another as this B&W Celtic cross faded, eventually looking like a prison tattoo. I found Triple X, and met with Eric. I handed him my inspiration for the cover up - a brilliantly colored Celtic cross, and with a few adjustments, Eric performed his rendition of the piece over the old work. I am thrilled with it, and the level of professionalism shown by the artist through out the process. Pros: Consultative, Clean, Pride in craft more

Great Place 5/7/2005

I got my first tattoo here, Buddha, the artist, was great. He was really friendly and comforting and put my at ease. The place was clean and the atmosphere was really chill, good art on the walls and great examples of their work too. I would certainly recommend Triple XXX to anyone getting a tattoo, whether it is their first time or they are regulars. Pros: Clean, Friendly, Talented more
