Stay away from this hot mess ... 9/12/2010

Stopped here for a friend's bday...never realized what I thought would be a casual night of drinks with friends would lead to a night of chaos. I was at first put off by the stink that came from inside whenever the bouncer opened the door. Then there were the Wal-Mart track lighting plastered haphazardly around the bar. Then there was the indescribably terrible music....already I'm wondering why the hell I was brought to this low life establishment! All it took was one look around to see that there wasn't even one person remotely attractive - it looked like all the college rejects who never had the guts to come out of the closet. Ok--these are things that should make you want to leave...but it gets WORSE. A few friends and I decided to grab a quick bite to eat to ward off our alcohol. Upon return, we came upon the 400lb gorilla bouncer, who we'd just spoken to 20 mins before...and with profanities being thrown at us REFUSED to let us back in. At this point, we had only come back to return our Bday Boy's jacket, who'd lent it to a girl in our party since it was chilly. When we explained only one of us would need ten seconds to find our friend, the bouncer SPIT IN THE FACE of one of our female friends. WOA. Then, the bouncer become completely enraged when one of our friends came to defend her and screamed unmentionable obscenities and racial slurs, threats and physically pushed another friend. It was all VERY upsetting. Then, THE BOUNCER TRIED TO DEAL US SOMETHING!! But clammed up, when the manager, Roger, came by--who we'd asked to see since things had gotten so out of hand...what a mess. We found out later from our BDAY BOY that the very same thing had happened to a number of other guests while trying to re-enter after smoking and the like. He saw the bartenders giving the bouncer shots and that is why he thinks things got so escalated. Luckily, we caught the whole thing on video on our phones. God bless technology. I can say I have lots of friends in the neighborhood, in the community, and muy importante people in the industry (who'd never go there anyways...SOHO House, hello!) that I'll be passing the word along to. And this is a small, powerful, vindicative crowd. I won't be surprised if POSH is shut down within the year. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOT MESS! more

Great Place To Party 2/3/2010

Posh is a great place to party. The happy hour is great and the crowd and bartenders are always friendly. It would be nice to see more minorities working behind the bar as many of the clients are from many different nationalities. Pros: Friendly environment Cons: No minorities working behind the bar more

Great 8/7/2009

I went here with my godfather not too long ago (shortly after I discovered he was gay) and we had an amazing time. We got to talk and hang out and catch up. The drinks were good, and the atmosphere was great. I'd definitely go back with him in the near future. more

Fun on a weekday! 2/3/2009

It was chill, relaxed, and the crowd was popping; pretty packed on a Tuesday night. I went with a friend; definitely take someone with you. Make sure you get bartender Paul to make your drinks! more

Night saver 1/15/2009

After having a not so good time bar hopping in hells kitchen i went with my friends to posh. My mood changed completely. The music was upbeat and original (not just the same tired old top 40 every gay bar plays on a loop all month). Although it was really crowded no one was shoving people out of the way to walk through. The staff made me laugh and noticed me despite the fact they were incredibly busy and the drinks they made were excellent. Everyone was dancing and having fun and i forgot all about being cranky earlier in the night. Thanks Posh! Pros: Music, Staff, Drinks & Atmosphere Cons: Crowded, but isn't that what people like about it? more

Monday Night Partaaay! 12/16/2008

Wow! Besides being a little hung(over), Posh is awesome! Where else are you going to find a dance party that goes like this till 4AM on a Monday? The rapper DJ was awesome, the bartenders were sweet (and hot... like a pepper-ha!), and the music and crowd was awesome! I brought two of my girlfriends, and even they had the time of their lives dancing! Monday rocks at Posh!!! :) more

3 Nights Out of 3...Awesome Fun Each Time! 11/30/2008

Some friends and I came into New York this past week for my birthday and stumbled upon Posh after a Monday night out in Hell's Kitchen. After we left at 4am, we decided to return on Tuesday and Wednesday night as well, each night as good as the one before it! The bartenders were beyond personable (not to mention nice to look at), the drinks cheap and well-made, and the music beyond good. AND you drink for FREE on your birthday!! Who does that?! Next time I come to New York, I will definitely be stopping by again. Special shoutout to Jeff and Anthony for making my birthday on Monday night that much more awesome, in addition to the other bartenders we met on Tues and Wed (ah can't remember their names though!).\r \r Whoever said this bar has changed ""for the worse"" obviously doesn't appreciate a great little secret in HK ;-) Pros: Most friendly bartenders in NYC, tasty drinks, cheap prices Cons: I did hear some Top 40 songs played more than once, long line for bathroom more

It doesn't get better than FREE DRINKS 11/23/2008

HELL YEAH!!! I just came from POSH and it is the place to be on a Sunday nite. Can you say OPEN BAR! This is the second time I have been to POSH on a Sunday and was there was an open bar. It didn't last all night but it was long enough to get the place packed. And with Cazwell spinning it couldn't get any better. The owner was just was crazy as everybody else. The bartenders were of course cute and very friendly. I prefer the new POSH! Good thing I don't have to work tomorrow!!! Pros: Free Drinks, Good Music, Friendly Barstaff Cons: The lines for the bathrooms! more

Posh In Hells Kitchen 10/1/2008

It has been awhile sine I was in NYC and things seem to change a lot. What happend to the original bartenders Jason and Michael and Derek? Gone are the good ole days and so is hospitality. Whats with all the turn over here. I felt like I was in South America with all the new little wife beaters running around behind the bar. All good things come to an end. Pros: music, all the new bars in the area, Cons: all the good ones are gone more

Great customer service 9/21/2008

I would like to thank Jesus, Artoro,Jeff,Adam and the DJ who made my 46th birthday party at Posh the most exciting birthday I have ever had in my life. They went completely out of their way to make it a very special evening for me, my friends and family. Keep up the good work guys!!!!!! more

Posh Optional 7/11/2008

Though I found this bar to be somewhat small, in all honesty I had a over all fun experience. This was the first gay bar I attended after my arrival to the City. Though I would not consider it the apitamy of a gay A-list society I found ""Posh"" inevitably refreshing with a layed back envirnment and well balanced drinks. I have return to the bar since only pleased to find that the overall experience and density remained regular. I expect to return... Pros: Envirnment, Drinks, Company Cons: Small equals crowded more

Fabulous 7/10/2008

I am form NC and i went to Posh last Monday night. I have NEVER been to a more friendly, amazing, and fun club before. I go to clubs almost every night. No club I have ever been to can compair to this one! I even went back the next night! AMAZING!!!!! I travel to NY very often and I think I have found a place i can chill and have a fabulous time! I wish they had a myspace! haha!! If you have never been you need to go! I will be back....... more

Speed it up bartender!!! 6/5/2008

I went to Hells Kitchen last night cause I hear Wed. night is packed at this bar. Either my friends were wrong or the rock and roll bartender with pointed side burns and lets just face a head of hair that was just a mess, was just so darn slow no one could get a drink. I stood next to him while he honestly leaned over the bar in a conversation about HImself for nearly a life time. Completely ignored me and my friends while we were parched of thirst.!! \r Seriously, aside from this the bar was a blast and I will be back. The bartender this just did not do it for me so bad I had to write it on here. \r But hey, don't take my word on it, try it out for yourself. Just not on Wed. Pros: Fun boys, really good drink prices, great music Cons: slow bartender on Wed, bartender that talks about himself, bartender more

Great Spot 1/23/2008

Stopped to meet a friend a few weeks ago. Was my first time there. I've been back a bunch of times since. It's a really friendly and fun place to grab a few drinks and meet some new people. Totally reasonable prices (especially during happy hour, 'til 8) and a super-friendly staff to boot. While its always fun, I definitely recommend Friday nights--really good crowd and energy without being over the top! Pros: Fun and friendly Cons: nada more

Where else can you find as much fun in this neighborhood??? 1/20/2008

I went there by accident and although it is a gay bar I was welcomed with open arms. The staf and clientele are fabulous. The drinks: out of this world! DJ Scotty Rox is hot hot hot. Great music and drinks. I am going back next weekend and maybe ill even check out Wednesdays project runway there I heard it is a blast. Pros: Everything Cons: None that I can think off more

The hottest gay bar in New York's famous Hell's Kitchen 1/20/2008

When in Hells Kitchen you must stop by at POSH. I highly recommend it for its ambiance and service. Attractive and attentive bartenders and server. (Very cute also) There is always something happening at POSH. Drag performances, Contests, Midnight Pizza and the hottest DJ's in the city. If you are 21 or 70, it does not matter you will feel welcome ALL the time. Then there is the famous happy hour every day, you should not miss it. 1/2 price drinks!!! Go there and have fun (alot) Pros: HAPPY HOUR more

Rough around the edges, but functional 9/23/2007

This bar has all the necessities, I liked the dance floor. The crowd is not the typical Chelsea boy. Very easy going crowd. more

Good local bar - not sure why it's called Posh though!! 6/6/2007

I go to Posh pretty often - a few times a week - I have to be honest though; it's not because Posh is so amazingly good - it's because the other bars in the neighbourhood are so painfully boring. Therapy, Vlada, I'd have more fun if I sat in my bathroom with a bottle of cheap vodka.\r \r Most times I've been to Posh I've had a pretty good time. There are plenty of regulars so you can turn up anytime and there'll always be someone you know hanging out at the bar, or out front smoking a cigarette.\r \r The bar staff are pretty friendly - one of them is very cute too :-) The owner seems like a cool guy - as soon as he heard it was my birthday the drinks were on the house for the whole evening. Nice, right? :-)\r \r Having been to Posh 100 times or so, and being well over the legal age limit, I was less than impressed by the new bouncer who completely refused me entry because I didn't have my photo ID on me. Carrying a passport when you go to a bar is just not a very wise thing to do (we don't have ID cards in the UK) He could have made SOME effort to verify that I'm a regular at the bar, but that would have taken some intelligence & involved him getting off his fat butt. Well if the owner wants to lose my $400/month of business, he should employ that bouncer full-time. \r \r I'm not sure where Posh gets its name from...maybe it's supposed to be ironic?? I lived in the area for years before I went there for the first time - and it was the name of the place that had always put me off wanting to check it out. I just imagined a place called Posh would be full of emaciated 20 yr olds in skin-tight fluorescent t-shirts.\r \r So, overall, recommended. It's not stylish, it's not ""cool"", it's not filled with gorgeous guys (there are a few, on a good night)...but it's not a bad way to spend a few hours. The people are friendly, the music's usually good, you can take your drinks outside while you have a smoke...what more could you ask for? ;-) Pros: friendly, laid-back, good music, not too expensive Cons: the downstairs bathroom & the new bouncer more

Editorial
  • In Short
The bar's namesake may be slightly misleading--unless Posh Spice is the first image that comes to mind. If that's the case, you'll probably love this watering hole in Hell's...
