THE best massage. Period. 10/10/2010

I'm at a computer all day. My neck, shoulders and upper arms are stiff or sore, depending on the day. I go to Laurie because she is amazing. She knows exactly how to treat people who are office-bound five days a week. She is the best, it's all I can say. What I like about her, too, is that she is so friendly. I've been to other massage therapists and they can be sorta cold but her comforting tone and pleasant demeanor makes the visit even better. She's a total professional. I recommend her a thousand percent, seriously. more

Physical Advantage---Medicine By Any Other Name! 10/10/2010

I was introduced to Laurie Towers of Physical Advantage well over 5 years ago by a Broadway dancer friend who swears by this as the ONLY massage therapy center for performing artists. I was having a period of intense sinus trouble mixed with powerful work-oriented anxiety and these amounted to an ongoing series of migraine headaches--the kind that could probably kill a horse! Laurie worked carefully with me, not only offering medically sound pressure points to break up the muscles in the neck, jaw and temples (which had by then felt more like atrophies that anything else), but by easing te pain and strain in the tense muscles in my shoulders and neck as well. After 1 session I was able to get back to work (no, not a dancer but a journalist) and make my deadlines. With ongoing pressure on the job, I made a decision to keep a regular schedule at Physical Advantage, where I not only have massage therapy but fitness tips and exercise prescription. Without these, it would be impossible to sit for hours at end at my computer, as I must do on a daily basis. Thank you Laurie Towers for being there for the entire arts community in NYC! I have even referred her to performers and writers who travel internationally; some have told me that it is worth the trip to fly in from Paris. more

Hardcore hands-on therapy for when you "knead" relief.

Editorial
  • The Scene
There are no perky flowers, scented candles or new-age chants here. The devoted athlete, dancer and weekend-warrior clients could care less: They don't come for primping and pampering, but relief from aches and injuries. Deep (but safe) tissue work by a handful of expert therapists (who'll also come to your office or home) helps speed recovery and prevent damage. For those who want results as much as relaxation, Physical Advantage deserves its perennial rating among the city's best.

    The Services
Massage guru Laurie Towers has a missionary fervor for helping the body heal itself. She and a hand-picked team of therapists have an encyclopedicknowledge of anatomy, sports therapy and techniques like Shiatsu, neuromuscular and trigger therapy. Not to mention well-honed biceps which can work as intensely as you (and your physique) can stand. They'll work full body, or spend an entire session focusing on a post-collision case of whiplash. Your body will be very, very grateful.
