This place reeks of good times.... 2/12/2009

I was once a regular, so much so, the regulars hated me!! I lived in that bar for almost a year. Thanks to the owners for putting up with me!! At the time I was a wreck, sorry. The bartenders were great and very tolerant, towrds me at least, Like Ames, Jess, Kimmy, don't I owe you a huge tip?!, Victoria, and that crazy one that always worked nights. I think her name was also Jess. The cooks were funny and made excellent food. I miss the food. I wonder if Oscar is still there?!! All the regulars, like keithie, lloyd, the doonesbury chaps, that chick from hell's kitchen, Joanie, can't believe I remembered. Pros: All around fun place. Cons: none more

In response to the comment below, the bouncer that is being referred to has since been fired. Therefore, I would disregard "ladies be warned". It isn't surprising that a girl wrote that review saying that the bartender was practically dancing on the bar and that this was somehow offensive. I know the extent of how far things go on that bar and it is nowhere near what would be seen at a strip club and is all in fun. So long as you aren't afraid of seeing some skin on a hot, fun bartender (even if you are a girl yourself), McKenna's is definitely worth a visit. more

Disappointed! I went out with my girl friend for a catching up chat and as soon as I got there, the bouncer wouldn't leave me alone. The tons of free drinks were cool but he wouldn't let us enjoy our night out, not to mention he reeked of booze. The bartender was practically dancing on the bar! If I wanted to see such things I would have gone to a strip club. Maybe I am not as open minded as others but the bouncer was way to pushy and the bartender made us uncomfortable. We finally gathered the courage to leave and have never been back. Bottom line: Totally unprofessional. Pros: strong drinks Cons: annoying employees more

Best Bar Ever!! 11/20/2008

I came to mckenna's for the first time the other night and I had so much fun. I got there at 5 and they had 2 for 1 happy hour until 7. I found out that its everyday from 12-7pm!!! best deal ever, they give you 2 for 1 on everything. The crowd there was very mixed and I met some cool people and had a lot of fun. I will definitely be coming back much more Pros: Happy Hour! Cons: Had work the next morning.. more

This is by far the best bar in Manhattan... if not the world. I moved from the city years ago but whenever i come back for a visit i must stop in and say hello. the drinks are chock full of booze, the bartenders are hot (and great to talk to) and the happy hour makes me smile with my liver! when i die i hope heaven is as enjoyable as Mckennas. Pros: the great happy hour Cons: one bathroom?? come on bri!!! more

A Classic, One of the Last of Its Kind 8/1/2007

Every time I make a trip to McKenna's I'm afraid it will have changed and be full of pretentious a-holes or superhipsters, etc. It's still a noisy, dirty place, and one of the best kind. I hope it never changes. Pros: Great price, a happy that lasts 7 hours (or 9?) Cons: It gets PACKED after 6pm! more

the noon to 9 is a lie. she said it was changed two weeks ago, but i'm not sure i believe her. it's now noon to 7. as if anyone leaves work before 7 anymore. whatever. more

  • Where else in the city can you get two Budweisers and a burger for $12? Since 1932, Mckenna's has been the go-to drinking establishment in NYC. With 8 drafts on tap and an extensive selection of liquor you can't help but leave with a smile on your face. Mckenna's has the best happy hour in the city with 2 for 1 on EVERYTHING! Whether you are sitting at the bar or lounging on the couches in the back, the atmosphere is friendly and it's not unusual for someone you just met to buy you a drink. The all female bar staff creates a great environment for the crowd and they definitely pour a strong drink. With 5 flat screen TV's there is alway a game on to watch and normally a few cheering sections. Whether you are looking to celebrate your birthday or a special occasion private parties are available and the rates are very reasonable. The kitchen is open until 1am.
