Lunasa is my favorite local bar....hands down! 8/19/2009

I live in the East Village and Lunasa is by far my favorite local spot. Scott, the bartender, is the best around. The happy hour is unbelievable, the food is great (try the burger), and the rest of staff make it always worth coming in. Don't get me wrong....there are many, many great spots in this neighborhood of great spots but when I want to feel welcome and enjoy myself I choose Lunasa. You can also bring a large group of friends as there are many large tables and a garden out back. Probably should have kept this to myself since I don't want it to be too crowded but this place is definitely worth a visit. Pros: great staff, great customers, always fun Cons: the amazing happy hour means it can get crowded more

Lunasa is the perfect local bar! 1/20/2009

Lunasa became my local bar the day it opened more than 5 years ago and has continued to exceed my expectations everyday since. The staff are my favorite part. The atmosphere is great any night of the week. I can go to the bar for dinner after work, a night out with friends, to watch my favorite team play, and I love stopping by for one more drink before the end of the night! Pros: The chilled draft beer and chicken caesar salad and Irish breakfast Cons: none! more

great bar - cheap drinks, lovely staff, fab garden 6/19/2008

i've been going to lunasa for years and have celebrated many a milestone here - birthdays, farewell parties, welcome-back parties, etc and always have a great time. the selection of beers is excellent, the staff is always friendly, the happy hour is awesome (2-for-1 drinks on wkdays from 4-7pm), the garden is perfect for the summer, the food is always good (i recommend the calamari and the quesadillas), atmosphere is relaxed. lunasa is one of my east village faves! i highly recommend it Pros: garden, great happy hour, friendly atmosphere more

Nice service, friendly crowd, overworked staff 6/14/2008

At first, it looks a bit out of place in the East Village. Three huge TV screens (basketball, when I was there). Some tables full of really loud jocks. High ceilings. Everything new. It seems like it should be on Third Avenue in the 30s. Actually, it's better than that. The staff and other patrons are casually friendly. We even merged tables as the night went on. The food was nothing special, but not bad either. The calamari was especially non-greasy. Our waitress was super nice and accommodating, but obviously overworked. It seemed as if she was the only one taking care of the place. If we wanted more beer, or something to eat, we had to get up, walk around until we found her, ask her to come to our table so we could order. Once there, she was really helpful, and friendly. I hope the place is successful enough for them to hire another server. They need it. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers, join us! Pros: friendly patrons, friendly staff, Cons: tough to find the waitress more

A liitle bit of fun...all the ime... 3/31/2008

When i was new to New York, I was directed here by a friend of a friend and absouletly loved it. From the friendly staff to the tasty food, its my favourite bar in the East Village, good for games during the day (where the best Irish breakfast is found this side of Mayo) even better at night when the fun really begins. Definitetly worth a visit, from anyone who is a New York lifer to a one time only weekender more

perfect pub, great food and great happy hour 3/27/2008

I've been coming here since they opened and even though I now live completely across/uptown I still come back regularly. Great food and service always and the best happy hour in the area. It's always my first choice to watch games, meet up with people, etc. Weekend brunch is awesome as well. You cannot go wrong here, I highly reccommend! more

Favorite Bar in NYC hands down 3/20/2008

Lunasa is a rare gem in NYC. I've been a regular customer for some years now and have yet to find a bar where I would rather have a quality night with friends. The quality of food is unbeatable: expect traditional pub favorites with a chic twist at great prices. When in need of a good burger, look no further than Lunasa: one of the best cheeseburgers in NYC (a true opinion amongst my friends and I). Lunasa is especially good for their happy hour: half price drinks and appetizers. The music is always fun, lots of classics and european bands that have yet to come to the US. The ambiance is relaxed, and you can see a lot of pride is taken into the upkeep of the bar. Most of all the staff and service are always friendly and welcoming. Spend a night at Lunasa and you're sure to come back. Pros: great happy hour, nice clean ambiance, fast service more

Great spot for a few drinks and a bite to eat 3/20/2008

I usually end up in Lunasa when I'm in the East Village, whether for a morning / afternoon soccer game with a few ciders and an Irish breakfast, or at night when the ciders are left aside and the hard liquor is whats required! Whatever the time of the day, this place is a good bet. For the soccer games (or indeed any sport you care to watch) the menu is varied and the staff are always friendly and attentive. I generally lean towards the Irish breakfast, however. Even in NYC where there are a load of places to get a good Irish breakfast, this place stands out - top notch! And at night the tunes are really good and the crowd are always up for a laugh. If ever you find yourself down the East Village, I highly recommend Lunasa whether for food, drinks, or preferably both! Pros: Staff, food, large drink portions, tunes more

Fantastic Happy Hour and great all round bar! 3/20/2008

Ok, not much of one to do reviews, but I love this place! Seriously one of the best happy hours in the city (believe me, I have tried a lot of them). Being a beer drinker, the fact that draft beers (all 11 of them) are $3 between 4 and 7 pm makes for a great after work bar to meet up with friends (who can partake in the cheap beer, wine or well drinks). As for the food, I eat there regularly and have never had a bad item off the menu. As a matter of fact, I would say that it is some of the best bar food around. The burgers are AMAZING (I say better than the famous burgers at Paul's down the road - an EV institution), the pannini's are gourmet in style and taste and the apps! 1/2 price apps for happy hour! The calamari and chicken quesadilla are my favorites. Portions are very generous (almost a meal in themselves) and the quality is great. At $9 normally, I still consider them good value (the number of times at other places I have paid more than this for a small bowl of what seems like 15 pieces of chewy calamari...), but at $4.50, they are a steal!!! The pita & chips, spring rolls and buffalo wings also rate well and are cheaper. Pros: Cheap and good food and drinks, atmosphere, bartender, back yard, waitresses, board games Cons: honestly can't think of any more

BEST HAPPY HOUR - HANDS DOWN. GREAT SERVICE, AMAZING PRICES, and me sitting at the bar half the time :) 3/17/2008

Ok.. hands down .. best happy hour in New York City. In my eternal search for the perfect happy hour, I always include a myriad of variables which need to be met to meet my level of expectation. Pros: Price, food, atmosphere, soccer, bartenders/staff, outdoors Cons: no jukebox more

Warning to Anyone with Taste Buds... 3/17/2008

I'm generally pretty chill when it comes to restaurants, service, and food. But this St. Patrick's Day ""brunch"" really tested my patience. It was the worst experience I've had in the six years in NYC. We walked in to Lunasa at 1:50p to get their ""Irish breakfast"". There was one table already eating and the rest of the restaurant was empty. So all in all the place was pretty dead. Cons: Service and Quality/safety of food more

Great Irish Pub, with the perfect pint of Guiness 3/15/2008

Perfect place to go for a quick pint - or waste away an afternoon. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is great. Go for a happy hour during the week to catch some specials or check out their weekend brunches. Everything from a traditional Irish breakfast to the best cheeseburger in the city (it's incredible). Spent last St. Patty's Day there and wound up planning a trip to Ireland. Great music and cool staff. A must in the east village to check out. more

Wonderful Staff, great please to have a party 12/2/2007

I had my bday party here, with a group of about 20. From the first time I contacted Lunasa to inquire about this, they were so nice and willing to accomidate. THey reserved the back seating area for my party, no charge, no bar tab minimum, no deposit. Our waitress, Michelle, was fabulous!! Thanks Michelle! She was right on point with each and every person and drink order. The bar tender was great, made us some delicious shots. I've also had food here in the past, and it's always been really good. The place is very nice but no attitude, and the games (jenga, connect four, etc) are a nice touch. Thanks for making my party great!! Pros: Wonderful staff, great drinks and food, great place to have a party, ambiance Cons: nothing! more

Not great service. 8/28/2007

This place has great atmosphere, & the staff are very friendly, but I was really disappointed in the quality of the service. We had a birthday party here, and we repeatedly had to go and track down the waitress to take drink orders everyone time someone new arrived, then the drinks took forever to get there. I thought they were just really busy until I spotted our waitress hanging out with some of the other staff at the back. I'd also been told when making the reservations that we could make music requests of the bartender, but when we tried to do that we were told that they couldn't because they were busy & short-staffed (which I totally understand, but was a bit disappointed after being told ahead of time that we could). Having said that, I think everyone had a good time & the staff were very friendly - just seemed a bit disorganized with slow & not-very-attentive service. Wouldn't recommend it for a large group or one where people are arriving at different times. more

Great For Board Games And Beer 7/23/2007

I was here on Thursday night for about an hour and a half... arrived around midnight and the bar was basically empty. Some would be upset about this but my friends and I were just looking for a place where we could hang out and have a beer. It ended up being a very relaxing experience. The bartender was attentive and knew how to pour a beer. The board games there are a great addition and provided us some entertainment on a slow night. We met some girls outside and promptly asked them to join us... Jenga proved to be a great ice breaker. I would go back to Lunasa but I'd want to try it on a night when there are a few more people there. Then again, for a relaxing evening, Lunasa proved itself worthy of my business. Pros: Good Beer Selection, Board Games Available, Easygoing Atmosphere, Not Trendy, Great For Meeting People Cons: Slow On A Thursday Night, Atmosphere Doesn't Offer Much more

Great Friendly Irish Bar... Super Location.. Excellent Food and Service! 4/19/2007

I've been going to Lunasa for a couple of years now and figured its high time I wrote a review! The fact that I'm still going there says it all. I LOVE this bar! It has that neighbourhood feel, very friendly staff and excellent bar cuisine! Last summer I had a farewell party for my sister and it was a huge success! We reserved the backyard which has picnic style tables and heaters when it cools down! The staff set up a table with a white tablecloth and real plates and cutlery (no paper or plastic here) and put on a hot and cold buffet. The guests raved about the food and the location. It was a perfect, private setting. We had non-stop table service and they kept the food coming until we had our fill! I've been here for other parties, and they too have been a great~! LUNASA, U BETTER NOT GO ANYWHERE, WE LOVE YOU!! And the music is AWESOME and of course Paddys Day Rocks here!! Pros: Friendly and effcient staff; Fun neighborhood bar; Great food and Music!! more

Great drinks, friendly staff, and they have Connect Four! 3/9/2007

I spent last Saturday night at this pub celebrating my birthday. From the minute I called (which was only a few days before) Scott (a bartender) was so helpful and friendly. It was kind of last minute and I had a small group coming, but he ensured me that we would have a place to sit and relax. They have some games at the bar (Get more black Connect Four pieces!) that we played for a bit while enjoying our drinks. The music was decent, atmosphere great, and the service was fantastic. Natalie was so attentive- she made sure everyone in our group was never without a drink. Scott chatted with us before we left- he wanted to make sure we had a great time. I'm so glad I decided to check out this place. It was a fun place hang with friends and I didn't have to put too much planning into my birthday gathering. I will definitely be back to Lunasa. I can't wait till the weather warms up to check out the beer garden. more

The magical place 9/15/2006

In short, for all you connoisseurs of the black stuff, no where else in Manhattan has got it quite as good as Lunasa has. And, believe me I am the fussy guinness drinker as the excellently funny bartender in Lunasa knows!! This bar is undoubtedly a gem in a city of Irish pubs. It's got that magical quality otherwise known in the emerald isle as ""the craic"" and as such the atmosphere at any time of the day or night is second to none. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

hottest bar staff in the village 7/15/2006
