I really wish there was more competition when it comes to martial arts stores in New York. Unfortunately, the lack of it has allowed Honda to be in business since 1953 (according to their site) while providing poor service and carrying a very limited and outdated inventory.
For starters, things such order status and store policy regarding gift certificates or returns change depending on who you ask. One day they tell you that you can use a gift certificate and get whatever is left in cash or store credit. Yeah, I know. It sounds too good to be true and it was since they proceeded to change that policy on me when I went to use my gift certificate.
Regarding their merchandise, let me just say that I asked for a pair of knee pads for grappling and all they had was something that looks like what a cyclist would wear back in the 80's. Everything looks cheap and second hand. You would think they would at least clean the dust off the merchandise to fool the customers but why should they. Also, you cannot use their gift certificates to buy anything at their online store (I went there because it looks like the merchandise there is newer and more extensive than in the actual store) . That's right, you have to go to the store with a list of what you want and let them order them for you. After a month I haven't gotten anything nor have a gotten a call informing me on the status of my order. With any luck, I will get my stuff some time this year :(
Pros: none
Cons: too many to describe
