Best

I've been coming here since it opened years ago when my parents would take me. Now this is where I like to spend MY money. Unpretentious service, great food, and the new hostess...

Worst

My friends and I went at HARU on a Tuesday evening, so it was not very busy. But despite that our dinner took far too long to be served. Everyone in my group ordered Sushi/Sashi...

Fresh, Upper West Side sushi 12/22/2008

When I lived in the city and had friends that lived on the Upper West Side, Haru was a staple for always fresh sushi, great sake, and friendly service. Guests can enjoy sushi in several areas, including the dining room, the sushi bar or the outdoor café. more

Not Bad, Not Great 7/24/2007

I've eaten at a lot of sushi places, both in NYC and out. Haru is okay, nothing remarkable. Decent sized pieces, prompt service (though we went late night and they were close to kitchen close time). The fish could have been a lil more cooled, had a slight mushy texture to it. They overcooked the edamame and a lil nubbin of wasabi for 3 rolls of sushi. Clean but not the greatest attention to detail. more

Great sushi 1/12/2007

I've been coming here since it opened years ago when my parents would take me. Now this is where I like to spend MY money. Unpretentious service, great food, and the new hostess, Mickey, is awesome. She treats everyone like VIPs. Haru's still great after all these years. Glad I'm back in Manhattan! more

consistent 12/9/2004

Haru is consistently good. It can get crowded and loud though. The disco music is a bit loud, but I still come back for the fresh fish. The service is efficient and skinny(to squeeze between the tables). I've only had one bad experience there when I ordered scallop sushi. It tasted ""bad."" I went to send the other pieces of it back, and the waitress was insistant that it couldn't be bad b/c it was fresh from the shell. Nonetheless, it was bad. Overall, I'd recommend. Pros: Fash, Fresh, Consistent Cons: , Crowded more

Quite Good & Tasty! 9/12/2003

I eat at this particular Haru's ALL of the time. I am addicted to their spicy titanic roll. . .which could be easily renamed to PRICY titantic roll, but it is still damn good. I prefer to go when it isn't so crowded (weekends, late lunches, or early dinners) but late at night is good as well, if you don't mind eating after 10 p.m I've found the service pretty good an attentive at least 90% of the time. The white tuna is EXCELLENT and I just really like their food and wouldn't hesistate to recommend! Enjoy! Pros: Tasty Sushi, Fresh Sushi, Fun :) Cons: crowds sometimes more

NO SUSHI FOR YOU!!! 5/8/2003

My friends and I went at HARU on a Tuesday evening, so it was not very busy. But despite that our dinner took far too long to be served. Everyone in my group ordered Sushi/Sashimi entrees and it was at least 45 minutes before we got our food. To make things worse, they served 3 of the 4 entrees first so the poor forth guy had to wait even longer. When the food all finally came, it was yet another disappointment. The Sashimi Deluxe, surely was not deluxe...the pieces were small and few. Totally unsatisfying. I will not be returning to HARU again! Cons: slow service, small portions, so so fish quality more

Fresh Sushi 3/2/2003

Haru on the Upper West Side is awesome.. the sushi is so fresh....they also happen the have the best teriaki chicken i've ever had... the chicken is amazing... their salads are great too... love the house dressing. more

Haru Hits Home 12/29/2002

Sit at the sushi bar to avoid the long wait and watch the chefs make their magic. Some of the special rolls are not aptly named, i.e. the Wasabi Roll should be renamed the Christmas Roll as it has green and red colored caviar and not much wasabi at all. The lettuce in the house salad is sometimes wilted, but dressing is excellent. The Sushi is top-notch for the value. Pros: Fresh Sushi, Unique Rolls, Value Cons: Crowded, Occasion Wilted Let., Benihana Owned more

decent japanese food 8/25/2002

nothing much to write home about, but haru serves up a consistent and good japanese meal. i had the chirashi and my friends had assorted plates with sushi and sashimi. overall, the fish was fresh. would recommend this place if you need a japanese food fix. it's decent and a good value. more

East meets West (Side)... 8/18/2002

Excellent fusion of savory sushi with different ""sauces, toppings, complements..."" Makes for an excellent new tasty sensation! Only problem... you eat *SO* much... it can get a tad pricey... Pros: excellent quality Cons: expensive more
