Fantastic! 7/27/2004

Came on a Wednesday night without a reservation. We started talking with the bartender and ended up staying at the bar. We ordered tapas (try the fried goat cheese and the aguacate!) and shared the dorada. The place was busy and had a bohemian feel. What really struck me were the regional cave paintings on the ceiling as décor. However, it was the wine list that sold me. This place really impressed me! Pros: great ambience, wine list more

I came here last Tuesday and was absolutely struck by the combination of food, atmosphere and service. It was obvious from the robust flavor of the food that only the highest quality of ingredients was selected. Upon entering the restaurant, the decor and live brazilian jazz playing in background transport you immediately from the city. And additionally, the service was polite, attentive and extremely knowledgable on the wines and food offered . Overall, me and my friends had a wonderful time there, and will definitely be back. Great food, great atmosphere, reasonable prices and VERY friendly and helpful wait staff. I highly recommend the ham and cheese croquettas, the fried goat cheese w/ honey and the sangria of course. I can't wait to go back. more

Great food, mediocre service 6/6/2004

The food was delish, with a dark sexy ambiance that was really romantic. Too bad they turned off the jazz mid-meal and switched to loud obnoxious Eurotrash house music instead. Plus the waiter was never anywhere to be found, and we waited 20 min for the check and then another 15 to get our credit card swiped though the restaurant wasn't that busy - we probably would've had to wait longer if I hadn't said something to a manager. Food-wise, I highly recommend the paella and ham croquettas, and there was a great wine selection. I don't know if I'd return though...I don't like to spend my time while at dinner chasing someone down for service. Pros: excellent food, great ambiance Cons: , music selection more

great Basque eats 5/8/2004

The east village area certainly has no shortage of quality restaurants. I like this end of town alot to take out of towners out. Midtown is easy, this is interesting. Euzkadi is a reasonably priced small restaurant with a large assortment of delicious tapas and entree sized plates. There is something here for every palate. The only thing I missed was a tapas of grilled octopus, my personal fave. Solid choices of Spanish wines. It's a bit loud and dark on a Saturday night. But we'd return again. Even thought it is quite small, they had no problem handling 8 people at peak dinner hour. Pros: portion sizes, variety of menu, very attentive staff Cons: , a bit dark more

Romantic 2/9/2004

The place was really adorable - romantic and dark and small and rustic - like I was in France. The appetizers were great - particularly the dry sausage with chile chocolate on toast and the fried goat cheese in honey. The steak/fries was a perfect basic delicious dish (especially after a few glasses of wine) and the duck was fair. Definitely a super-cozy place, and if you go with a cutie, it's even better! Recently enjoyed an easy Sunday evening @ Euzkadi... The food was fantastic and the staff was very accommodating... There was a DJ that successfully captured the mood a the perfect Sunday night out... easy, hip, and relaxed with brief moments of excitement... Real fun! 3/3/2003

Great atmosphere, friendly stuff and increadible DJ on Friday playing funky music from around the world. Great selection of wines and cheeses. Don't be surprised if you end up dancing on the table at the end of the night. Pros: food, music, atmosphere more

This place was great. The owners and every one there was very accommodating, friendly and attentive. Had a private party that night, so not much selection of food. But will definitely go back and try some of their more authentic Basque cuisine. The food was great, great atmosphere. more

We were a group of 16 for a surprise party, were seated, and had to wait for the birthday girl. Well, no one gave us a hard time about ordering. In fact, we had to flag the waiter down because we were getting very hungry and wanted to get started. After reading that this was a smoking restaurant, I was a bit worried since I'm not a smoker. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't even smell any smoke. Overall, the food and service were decent. My husband made friends with the Italian speaking waiter and the guy took good care of us. The portions were pretty small for the price, I thought, and I never got the coffee I ordered. Don't know if we were charged for it. Since the company took priority over the food, I really enjoyed myself. The restaurant itself seemed pleasant and cozy. Pros: good food, pleasant atmosphere, decent prices Cons: hard to park, spotty service, small portions more

Excellent service, delicious menu, adorable European crowd, beautiful, eclectic atmosphere. Highly recommend for dinner, but if you are not in the mood to eat, Euzkadi is perfect for an array of aromatic wines and complimenting cheeses. Can dress up or down, does not matter...Euzkadi just wants you to enjoy yourself and your company. This restaurant has a quant feel yet at the same time embodies so much character. With the sincerity of the employees, the superior fare, and the providing of your own pleasant company, Euzkadi is one of the many reasons why I LOVE NY! has nothing to do with real basque food,just creative food trying to steal a spanish identity for marketing purposes, go to Sala on bowery is a much better bet. Cons: not spanish at all, expensive more

East Village Keeper 6/18/2002

Euzkadi was a plesant surprise. The food overall was quite good. The Calimari appetizer was great and should be converted into an entree. The wine selection was good enough for all palletes and moderately priced. Before going I had read a few reviews that panned the service. Knowing this I treated our waiter with respect and he returned in kind - I've worked in restaurants before and can tell you that a kind greeting can go far. This place is definitely worth a visit. BTW - If smoke bothers you, then make sure you are seated outside. more

Favorite new East Village spot 5/20/2002

I love Euzkadi. So nice to have some new options other than the usual Italian, French bistro stuff. The duck is one of my favorite dishes, and the appetizers are all good. Friendly staff, great atmosphere. A little pricey, but definitely good for it. more
