Caliu is an excellent and welcomed new addition to the West Village. The food is extremely tasty, the space is comfortable and the staff is very pleasant. We stopped in for brunch and were pleased with all of our food. Everything was well prepared, with unique twists and flavors. Now, we can't wait to try it out for dinner. more

Delisioso! 12/28/2010

Decided to stop at this new neighbor spot for dinner with my friends, and it was awesome! I started off with the jamon, which was out of this world. We ordered the calamares, and sea scallops for the table, and washed it down with a tall glass of sangria. If I closed my eyes long enough, I could also envision myself in the middle of Spain. The chef came to our table, and made sure everything was cooked to our liking, and our server was incredibly sweet. I will definitely come back & recommend to friends. Thank You! more

Love at first bite :) 12/28/2010

Came here for brunch with my girlfriends last week, and the food was absolutely delectable. Not really familiar with spanish cuisine, we asked our knowledgable server for their suggestion. We started with the bacon wrapped dates, which were so succulent, I decided to order more as my main. The grilled prawns were cooked to perfection, and paired up just perfectly with my glass of sangria. The portion size of the tapas is superb, and the service is unparalleled. Glad this establishment is within walking distance from my apt., highly recommended :) more

  • Here at Caliu we focus on local ingredients. We are a traditional Spanish tapas restaurant located in the heart of the West Village in NYC. The owners are Chef Franco Barrio & Cynthia Lau. The menu at Caliu skews classics, with tapas standbys like house made morcilla & all manner of cured meats & cheeses. Our 65-seat dining room modeled after a rustic Spanish taverna, with a small bar will give you a warm comfortable feel.

    At Caliu we are going with a seasonal concept with market menu specials. We are very neighborhood oriented and want people to come & try many dishes since we encourage sharing. Our open kitchen allows people to watch & see the chef in action. We also have a table for two inside the kitchen for those who wondered about the ups & downs of running a professional kitchen. Please call us for reservations. We recommend the chef's menu for parties of six or more
