Went for a pedicure and manicure. The place was great it had great ambiance and a stern intimidating asian lady at the front desk. I've heard a lot of great things from this spa, ...

Worst Spa in NYC. 6/6/2007

Well where do I begin, My experience at Bunya City Spa was very predictable, as soon as I stept in the Spa the Receptionist was very rude and unprofessional I got very weird looks, and it made me very uncomfortable. My sister actually bought me a facial for my 30th Birthday and I wish she gave me the money instead, My facial was o.k but the women that was giving the facial talked so much that my hour facial turned into a 1/2 hour facial, and at the end she was just going on and on with the products she suggested I buy that by the way were products from the spa soooo... I ended up paying the same amount my sister paid for the facial, in other words I paid for my facial!. At the End I don't Recommend this spa!!. Pros: Very Clean. Cons: The staff need more training. more

GREAT THAI MASSAGE 5/1/2007

I went for the thai massage for 50 minutes it was so relaxing and nice. The masseuse kept on talking to me even thought i wanted to be massaged in peace. They have a very small sauna room but it's a nice place. The owners are very rude and bitchy! Pros: nice massage Cons: rude owners more

Great Massage! Small space... 2/28/2007

I went to Banyan for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised, this morning! I am a regular spa goer and tried the "Asian Blend Shiatsu". The space is relaxing but I wish it were a bit cleaner like Bliss usually is and I wish it was bigger. When I filled the usual form I said I am an "easily bruiser" and that I wanted "light pressure". Upon meeting my masseuse I asked one more time for a light massage. During the massage, which I thought it was a bit too strong for me, I asked again for light pressure thinking I would come out bruised already. The masseuse was very sweet and asked how I felt all the time. In the end I tried their steam rooms and loved it. But the real surprise was that all my shoulder and lower back pain disappeared when I woke up today! I am definitely going back! Pros: Great massage, relaxing atmosphere Cons: Small and not perfectly clean more

Great Service 2/4/2007

Recently I had a facial with Terri, who was especially great and made me feel so comfortable. She were gentle and thorough and paid close attention to detail. I have been to other places where they yell at you for not taking care of your skin and they are really rough. Terri gives advice about what to do for home care and it really works! My face glows for weeks after I have a treatment. I have been recommending Terri to everyone I know. Pros: Very clean Cons: Small changing area more

Great massages, Girl's Night Out, Customer Service is Fab. 1/27/2007

Great massage. Went here with my girl friends for my birthday and we all had different but great experiences. I had the Oriental Herbal Compress with Thai Massage and LOVED it. The staff was professional, friendly and accomodating. TIP: Don't afraid to be vocal during your massage, if it's cold, say so, if it's too much pressure let them know... they WANT to make you as comfortable as possible, so communicate! Enjoy! more

highly recommended to you! 1/2/2007

i really recommand this place, best services with warm hearted greeting words welcoming you which gives you a unforgetable experience! more

Poorly run front desk mangles gifts 12/9/2006

Don't use this place for a gift. It's a nice spa, just like many others in SOHO, but the front desk horribly mangled a present to my girlfriend and made her pay on the spot rather than running my credit card as I had instructed them to do and confirmed. Spare yourself the aggravation of a poorly run front desk. Why waste time with this place when other great places are just a couple of blocks away? I won't. more

Super Nice Spa with Advance Skills 12/5/2006

Recommended by a close friend and went to Banyan Citi Spa the first time. I usually very picky about spas, because they can get really bad if they lack of experiences. However, I trusted my friend and gave a shot to Banyan Citi Spa. Luckily they did not disappoint me. I had the best massage I ever had with NEVER-WANT-TO-STOP ginger body polish. The staffs are so nice, sweet and very experience in what they do. My masseur gave me a light but wonderful Swedish massage follow with a ginger body polish, which smell so good. After the treatment, my skin feel like baby's skin, soft and silky. On top of that, the spa is stylish, clean and very beautiful. I do glad that I trusted my friend and I will definitely go back to try their other services. I am very comfortable recommending BanyanCiti Spa to everyone I know. Pros: Massage, Service, Ambience more

Stunned by my miserable experience! 12/1/2006

I am an avid spa-goer. I get weekly manicures and pedicures, and also go to Bliss Soho for facials every Thursday. I would say that my standards are high, but far from unreasonable. I went to Banyan tonight after work, having decided at the last minute I wanted a massage. The reviews here were decent, and the spa's website is impressive. The space is perfectly pleasant--small, but clean and stylish. However, the massage reminded me of those you get after paying for your $10 manicure--the incessant pounding on your back, the elbows digging into your shoulder blades, and the general lack of technique. Never before have I been in pain during a massage to the point of saying "ouch-STOP!" Furthermore, this was not the "wow she is really working those knots out of my back" kind of pain but rather the "she has no clue what she is doing" kind of pain. I paid $100 for my "Swedish" massage and received one hour of poking, intense prodding by the therapist's thumbs, and about 10 minutes of her STRADDLING me, using her elbows and knees to, again, POKE me in various ways. This was the kind of massage I'd expect from a "spa" in China Town, not from a spa which advertises itself as Banyan does. I am aching in all the wrong places. If at all possible, please keep searching CitySearch to find another spa. more

I saw this place one day after i was having dinner with my cousin and i walked in to get some info about the services and the people were very friendly and welcoming ...i later went to get a facial and ever since i am hooked ...the facial really showed a difference in my uneven skin tone....she extracted all the things in my pores....now i get my nails done and monthly facials there...i really recommand this place your skin will really get improved.............. Pros: great atmosphere more

Good Massage 11/9/2006

I had a good massage done by Kitty. Like the others, she was in the room when I disrobed, but I was ok w/ that. She asked if the pressure was good & I told her what I liked & she did exactly what I wanted. I felt great afterwards. Spent some time in the sauna & steam room & took a nice shower. The dressing room is definitely SMALL, it was more like a small walkway. The lounging area was a nice touch to just chat w/ friends & have a small snack. My friend came w/ me & she had a bad experience. The girl she got did a chest massage (thank goodness mine didn't). So it all depends who you get. Ask for Kitty, she's good! Pros: Good massage by Kitty, steam room, showers Cons: small changing area more

nice spa, bad massage 10/29/2006

I got a thai massage as part of the spa week special. The lounge was nice but very small, I had to stand becuase there wasnt enough seating area, however, the lighting was nice, magazines, fruit, pretzels, ice water, tea were all provided in the lounge. I had to wait a while before I could actualy get my massage because there were many clients at the time and not enough staff. The locker room was very small and cramped. But what I did like about the spa was that it had many showers with shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided, it had a steam room. The spa was also very clean and provided hairdryer and other things for your use after showering. The massage that I got however, was disappointing. First , she asked me disrobe when she was in the room, which I thought was sorta strange. The massage hurt a little, and I thought that it would get rid of the knots in my shoulders, but instead my shoulders hurt even more and felt more knotted after the massage. All I have to say is that I was very disappointed with the massage, and I didnt feel relaxed and knot free after it . Pros: nice spa with nice amenities Cons: bad massage more

Weird masseur, okay massage 10/29/2006

The receptionist at citispa was very helpful when I walked in without an appointment on Saturday morning. The place was empty at 9:30 as the the spa opens at 10. The changing area, sauna, locker, & steam room are very small considering the number of people the spa seems to accomodate, so I can imagine it could get quite busy later in the day. The lounge area has 2 televisions which I found very distracting from the relaxing atmosphere one expects from a spa. The massage room was lit by candlelight and looked clean and new...Then some rather strange stuff started happening. First of all, my masseur asked me to take off my robe while she was in the room and hand it to her so i was left standing next to the table and awkwardly trying to cover up!!! She listened to my request of a moderate pressure massage, however. But then when I turned over she WITHOUT ASKING pulled down the sheet and proceeded to massage my chest. I have been going to spas all over New York and that has never happened. I told her to stop, which she did, but I was so tense and embarassed the rest of the massage was awful. I brought this up to the receptionist afterwards and all she said was, our employees are very professional! No apologies or offers for money back or anything!!!! more

Will Never Go to other Spa but Banyan Citi Spa 10/29/2006

I am a frequent spa goer (at least once or twice a month) and it was my first time visited Banyan Citi Spa. I found them on the spa week website and I am so glad that I picked them. The spa was a little busy on the day I visit (hey, it's spa week, everyone is taking advantage of it), but the receptionists were very polite and sweet and I waited may be or less than 5-10 minutes. The facility is very beautiful and clean. I had facial and massage, which are TOTALLY AMAZING.... Words are not good enough to describe this experience. The Thai massage was a little different than the normal ones (I was not wearing pajamas), which my technician explained to me before it was because they had to rub a warm and wet Asian medicine ball on me in order for my muscle to relax even further more (I love it and did not care about not wearing a pajamas). My god, I have never felt so good in my life. After the massage, I had my facial in the same room (the receptionist suggested me to get my massage before my facial), I had a Esthetician who is so gentle. While I was steaming my face, the esthetican unexpectly gave me a wonderful shoulder and hands massage. The extraction was not pain at all and I felt every single one of my pores are clean after the facial. I swear those little fine lines on my forehead disapeared also. I still can not believe I only spent $104 (including tax) for TWO of those wonderful treatments. Before I leave the spa, I brought huge amount of Gift Cards, which I can use them within 6 months period for the same Spa Week treatments. In addition, my friends and relatives will appreciate so much if I give some of my gift cards to them for the holidays (I might keep them all tough). I highly recommend this spa, because it's truly one of the best spa I have ever been to in my life time (Well, maybe the Mandarin Hotel Spa in Bangkok, Thailand is the best & Banyan Citi Spa is the second best). Pros: Clean, Atmosphere, Sweet Staff Cons: Hard to get appointment more

Great message, rushed customer service 10/25/2006

I went there at the end of a busy work day. The locker rooms are small, changing area uncomfortable and the sauna is the size of a closet. However, once I got a Thai massage, it was one of the best massages that I have received. If you are looking for a sanctuary to spend a few hours in, this is not the place, if you are looking for an excellent message, look no further. Pros: Massage Cons: Rushed Customer Service, Small Space more

The best facial, a little crowded though 10/23/2006

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary and although he made appointments for massages, they goofed and somehow we each had a facial. It was the best facial I have ever had though, relaxing and skin-specific (I have very sensitive skin so that is pretty important to me). The women's locker room is crowded and kind of stressful especially after your treatment when you are relaxed and out of it. So before your appointment, get ready to knock elbows in the locker room and steam room/sauna areas, but also get ready for a wonderful treatment! Pros: Great facial, nice staff Cons: Cramped locker room, cold treatment rooms more

Best spa in NYC 10/21/2006

One of my coworker kept raving about this place so I decided to give it a try. I went without knowing I had to make a reservation but the receptionist greeted me with a friendly smile anyways, what a good start, she then thoroughly explained all the different kinds of massage they have and I went for their signature thai massage. I was told I was in no hurry so I went into the steam room, which was just what I needed. My therapist was absolutely incredible, she knew exactly which area I was in pain and helped me with all the knots on my back. I have serious lower back problem and her stretching really helped loosen up my muscles. One of the best massage I've ever had. I went again two weeks ago and this time with a different therapist, also very amazing. Pros: Nice and helpful staff, very clean, cute receptionist Cons: too cold more

Best Spa Service 10/11/2006

Theses ladies really have the magic touch. I you want to experiance some of the best spa professional, Banyan Citi Spa is a must! Pros: Skill of professionals, friendly staff and value of service. Cons: Dressing area in locker room could be larger. more

just plain icky 10/2/2006

ok, i believed the hype and scheduled a much needed massage. the reception was fine, if not a bit distant, but it was the treatment that was beyond bad. the massage therapist asked what type of massage i wanted - swedish- and proceeded to pinch and poke and tug at me with the tiniest dab of oil applied - when asked to lighten up she said, oh, ok, but proceeded along the same route. she actually straddled me to cross the table (rather than going around!) and straddled my neck (while i was face down, thank god!) to massage my back and shoulders...soooo bizarre....so not relaxing and definitely NOT professional. and when i told the front desk at check out their response was "oh, sorry, next time we'll give you a different person." a different person? how about a price cut or a freebie for the weird experience/disappointment. do yourself a favor and skip this place. Pros: none Cons: bizarre, painful message - read the gruesome details above! more

Never been spa-ing before . . . 9/30/2006

. . . but this seemed pretty nice. I got a facial and a mani-pedi. The atmosphere and decor were really beautiful. I liked the dim, relaxing waiting room with lemon water and little snacks. Having nothing to compare it to, I'd say it was good, but nothing I can't do myself with the right products and a magnifying mirror. more
