Best

Great atmosphere, great crepes and great beer. Very trendy. Reasonable. Service was fantastic and polite!

Waste of Time and Money 9/28/2009

Before you have even finished your first drink, the waitstaff will begin to hover nearby and interrupt conversations to try to sell you another. Mind you, I'm well versed and very astute with the bar scene, but the tactics used here are curiously crass. I go there to laugh at those bartenders who think they are pulling the wool over your eyes with their hackneyed utterances. Joke is right. The harder they try and be a ""friend,"" the more they're adding insult to injury. This place is the epitome of disingenuous. If there was a zero rating, I'd fill that one in. Pros: they don't charge for napkins or straws Cons: overpriced drinks & food, aggressive sales technique more

Really expensive, flattest beer ever. 10/4/2006

I like the atmosphere, music, and at first the bartender was really nice. But, apparently in Eastern Europe (where he was from) they don't understand the concept of the customer is always right. My boyfriend ordered a Spaten on tap, it was really flat. He told the bartender and the guy tasted it for himself, then checked the keg and said ""this is how Spaten tastes"" and so besides not just giving him anothr beer, he was out to prove him wrong. Then I got a Stella and it was actually worse. It was the flattest beer ever and they both cost us $6.00, which is a lot for beer. Bad customer service!! Pros: ambience, nice marble bar Cons: HORRIBLE BEER on tap-2 out of their 5 taps were FLAT! more

Low key, comfortable, and fun 6/6/2006

It's a cute place. Unpretentious, not crowded, not loud... it's a good place for a date, to catch up with friends, to just spend some time at a bar without being caught up in a going out frenzy. Low key, decent drinks, and crepes (!). A staple in my bar scene. Pros: Private, Easy going, Nice staff Cons: Needs better seating, A little too dark more

Friendly Staffs 11/10/2004

The place looks pretentious but the staffs and usuals there are very down to earth. Nice atmosphere without the wannabe crowd. The beer and wine selections are not the best in the city but acceptable. The only thing I dislike of this place is the no credit card acceptance except American Xpress. Pros: Nice crepes, Not rowdy, Friendly atmosphere Cons: , Served more food more

Shade 6/16/2003

Shade is a great place to have a fantastic glass of wine and meet some really interesting people. The waitstaff are always nice and ready to serve. more

Great Crepes 1/12/2003

Best time to go is on a weekday afternoon when the place is empty, service is swift and the crepes are wonderful! Desert crepes are a must. Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Romantic more

Friendly Manami & Co. 1/9/2003

I like this place because: it is cozy, not over crowded, not too loud, has lovely and friendly bartenders that have been working there for years, which says something about the place, and because they serve tasty crepes. For the ladies: clean bathrooms (2 of them). Pros: relaxed, friendly, good location Cons: small wine selection more

Not that great 12/8/2002

I've known this place a long time, and had no idea that it called itself a wine bar. It's not one. It's more like an uncomfortable pub that serves sandwiches. And the staff is kind of a joke. more

Unmatched bad service 9/6/2002

I understand why bar owners hire young, cute girls, but when they can't do the job, it's time to hire some competence. Don't go unless you're into being yelled at, over charged, and generally harassed by the staff. Cons: pricey, bad service more

Average to Poor 8/6/2002

I went to shade with a friend the other night, and while the place is by no means terrible, the wine list is quite poor and the crepes are average at best. Bottles are cheap ($18-$30) but they are the $5.99 type of bottle you would see in a wine shop. Crowd is your basic NYU students or the like, and while the place has some neighborhood charm, I would suggest going somewhere else. Pros: Inexpensive, neighborhood feel, intimate environment Cons: Really POOR wines, average food, just not special more
