The parking around here stinks, so you may as well suck it up and valet it. This shopping center is unusual in that it is 9 levels, the top 4 belonging to Nordstrom. Thre is a huge atrium that goes up the middle and the center features curving escalators in the middle (the only ones in the country!). This mall mostly has the usual suspect type stores (Abercrombie, J. Crew, Body Shop, Gymboree) but also has some harder to find stores like L'Occitane. If you are visiting it is worth stopping by since you will likely be around the area, it's a very pretty mall!

This may sound snobby, but I don't normally consider myself to be a "value" hotel kind of girl. But the rates are Pop Century (we paid $79/night with the free dining promo) were seriously about one quarter to one half of the costs of the moderate and deluxe Disney resorts. I figured if Disney ran the property it had to be clean and couldn't be too bad. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the room. The amenities were basic, but the room was clean and well furnished. Pop Century has their own bus line to all the parks, and while the lines were sometimes long it was a nice perk to have (next time we're renting a car though). We have a room in the 50s section and it was a short walk to Everything Pop. The theming was sort of fun, my young son really enjoyed checking everything out. We liked it so much we'll be going back this fall!

This McDonalds features the same burgers, fries and shakes as every other McDonalds, but they also have a nice outdoor playland for kids. Unfortunately it isn't protected from the weather but on a nice day your child will enjoy the play structure and slides. The play area is gated so there isn't any chance your child can run off. The inside of this McDonald is nicer than average because it was a test site of an upscale McDonalds cafe so they have oversized chairs and small tables. It's a perfect place if you are meeting other people.

They are a zillion restaurants on Castro Street but they really all seem to be either Thai or Indian food. Zucca is a refreshing change to the Castro Street scene. I've only been for lunch but they offer a fantastic lunch menu, be sure to try one of the wraps. The chicken one is absolutely fantastic. Prices for lunch are reasonable and they try to get you in and out pretty fast during the week.

Downtown Los Altos has several children's boutiques, Marion Jackstons is the largest one. The store is mostly girls clothes (which is too bad since I have a boy). They have a nice selection of christening/baptism outfits and flower girl type special occasion dresses. There is a nice layette selection for tiny babies. For boys there really isn't much other than Quicksilver (which seems like an odd choice for a boutique brand). The brands they carry is rather limited, I've never bought anything here but I do browse when I get the chance. I think there are better alternatives for European boutique brands.

Sadly, fabric stores are a dying breed. I remember when there were several fabric stores in town to choose from, Jo-Ann is a fabric store/craft store hybrid. They don't carry as many craft items as the larger stores (like Michael's) but they do have a small selection. The fabric side of the store has a nice selection, especially in quilting fabrics. Unfortunately, the store always seems to be understaffed. It is rare that more than one person is working the cutting table and it is not unusual to wait 15 or 20 minutes for your fabric to be cut (and then you have to wait in line again at the register). The prices are reasonable and the sales are plentiful. The store also carried holiday decor and supplies that go on deep discount right after the holiday.

I love just browsing at Los Altos Card & Party. They have an amazing selection of invitations that you can print at home (everything from baptisms to wedding showers to birthday parties), plus they have about 50 books of premium custom invitations and announcements they will order from. They carry very nice lines such as William Arthur, Encore and Crane's. The store also carries a large selection of greeting cards, and some party supplies such as plates and napkins (more for adult parties than kid parties though). A recent addition to the store has been a small scrapbooking annex. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Their Own Toys is store that primarily focuses on personalized items. They sell everything from furniture to jewelry that can be personalized with your child's name. They also carry a selection of boutique brands such as Petunia Picklebottom and Fleurville diaper bags. They quality of the product they carry is amazing, this isn't the kind of stuff you would find in the Lillian Vernon catalog or in Toys R Us. The owner is very friendly and will help you find the perfect gift. They will also do special orders.

Sundance has been around forever (a least in restaurant terms!). I remember going as a child for special occasions. When I got married this is where we had our rehearsal dinner. 10 years later we still enjoy a nice meal there every so often. The steaks are just wonderful, and always cooked to perfection. The salads are great (and I think the dressings are homemade?). They also offer a variety of hearty appetizers and a full bar. Service is quick and polite, the staff knows the menu well and will offer recommendations if needed. The ambiance is cozy and rich.
