medical neglect for 14 month old son 9/7/2018

On Tuesday 4th of September, 2018, my son, who had had a fever since the Friday before developed higher temperatures above 102. He was also bitten by something near the left side temple which cause his temple area to swell to the size of a plum. He was constantly crying in pain and pulling his left ear. I told my wife take him to ER once she sent me photo of this lump, then i left work to meet them there. Upon arriving i spoke to the physician in charge, an Asian doctor who would not give me his name later that evening when i asked. He seemed very cold, rude, and not inclined to tell me much about what he was doing. I saw him about to put a catherer up my son's urethra to get pee. I knew this procedure to be painful for a grown man much less an infant already suffering in pain. I also know that Coney Island pediatric ER had an alternative way to get urine that was not invasive and painful, because they did it before another time we took our son. This doctor got upset at my refusal to allow the more painful methodology, and stated, "i don't let parents tell me what to do, either we do it this way or he will not be treated here." after 15 mins or arguing with this doctor i took my son and waited the following day for him to see his pediatrician. the pediatrician discovered my son's left ear drum was busted, it was leaking wax, and he had a bacterial infection. All of this without putting a catherer up his urethra. he prescribed local antibitotics for his ear and oral for his general infection. This doctor did not care about my son's welfare, health, nor life. He was arrogant, insisted on causing my son unneccessary pain, and did not care if my son was injured or not. I will never take my son nor anyone of my family to this horrible hospital. more

"help" 9/30/2014

Horrible horrible horrible... called to make a mammogram appointment, just to be transferred around to people who had not the slightly clue which correct extention numer to give me..after 30mins on hold and transferred for the 10th i asked to speak to someone who i can make a complaint to..i was put on hold again for another 10mins and when i did finally get to speak to someone, he was the rudest person ever and wouldnt take down my complaint, then hung up the phone on me!!! I rather suffer through the pain than ever step foot in that hospital for help. Terrible people who are in charge of "helping" others. more

HORRIFIC CARE 6/9/2013

Horrific care!!! Rescue dogs are treated better..Had to take my father off of life support and was assured he would be kept comfortable during his final days. Walked in to find him thrashing in the bed and was told by the doctor 'this is nothing, you should have seen him an hour ago'. Needed to call every 3 hours to make sure he was given his medication and then he still was not! Screamed at the hospital administrator, reassured by 5 different doctors they would fix it, they never did. The nurses were TERRIBLE!!! One doctor hung up on me, one nurse hung up on me, one nurse said he seemed a little more alert today (he was in the final stages of dying!!!!). Disgusting, inhumane treatment of another human being. I cannot tell you how upsetting it was to have someone die in this hospital. They should be shut down. Absolutely reprehensible. RUN FROM THIS PLACE. Disgusting treatment by apathetic, unsympathetic, filthy, uneducated morons. I will be lodging complaints with medicare, the state, and anyone else with the power to close them down. No one should ever be subjected to this place again. more

Not so bad after all 9/23/2012

Felicia, the clerk at ER, and Mr. Cusirramos, the Patient Rep, were so helpful when my grandfather was admitted to ER. I had 3 young kids with me at the time. Coming from Upstate. No time to get a babysitter. They were so nice to put us in a family room so that I can talk to the ER doctor and nurse the baby comfortably. The security guard inside the ER watched my kids whenever I wanted to check on my grandfather's status. Mr. Cusirramos even gave us 2 sandwiches and drinks for us because I was too concerned to walk out. It was around 4pm and I didn't eat yet. He checked on us occasionally to see if we were comfortable. My grandfather is in stable condition now. The doctors, and there were many, were very committed to making sure he gets the treatment he needed. My grandfather gives everybody a hard time including any doctors but so far, the hospital staff have been patient and determined to deal with him. The head doctor of ICU took almost three hours to do what normally took him 10 minutes to do. My grandfather's vascular veins are very hard to get to and he fights even when sedated. There's one doctor in Medical ICU who we didn't care for but she's one of many. Luckily, she wasn't my grandfather's main doctor. The thing about this hospital that is concerning is the lack of teamwork within the group of doctors and departments. Information gets lost because one person doesn't share it with another. So, we often find ourselves repeat important info about my grandfather's condition. When one sees the patients who arrives in ER and the condition ICU patients are in, it's understanding how difficult working in a city hospital can be. more

IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY, DO NOT TAKE THEM TO CONEY ISLAND HOSPITAL! 7/9/2012

My dear grandfather is a 85 years old, holocaust survivor! On June 6 he broke his hip and we had no way to get him to a hospital in NY city, Which is why we took him to Coney Island Hospital. What a mistake! The operation went well, but what happened later became a nightmare and i still haven't woken from it! Don't get me wrong, there are some great people on the staff ,but there are a lot of very rotten ones ! They look at the screen of the computer, and the people to them are just a number. On July 4th ,my grandfather was in bed with a dirty diaper full of bowels and urine for four hours until we got there and called the administrator!I We could not stop crying ,the last time my grandfather was in situation like this was in concentration camp! but this is only the start! My Mother is a 62 year woman, and on the 28 of june she was assaulted by hospital police for talking outside of the main entrance to me about my grandfathers care. He did not like her kind (Russian) and made it very clear The Gorilla of a man, 6 foot 4, 350 lb, told her to stop talking and because she didn't, he threw her against the wall and down and smilled about it Then they tried to cover it up,but its all on video and criminal charges were filled with real police! Please people think twice, before you leave your loved ones in this hell hole!! Other issues 1) My grandfather had an order in the computer to be sat up in a chair so he doesn't get bed sores and deteriorate. It took them 8 days to finally sit him because each department was blaming the other. Be advised, at coney island hospital, you need to be the biggest advocate of your loved one, i just feel sorry for those who have no one to fight for them! 2) Do not let the religious woman on the 7th floor step down unit of the new building next to your family, I do not want to give names but she is horrible and someone who does nothing while trying to look busy all the time all the while blaming others for care not being given. more

very bad hospital 6/10/2012

My grandma died in there and we were told there was no negligence. How did she get bed sores all over her and why was her diaper dripping when it was removed? The poor woman was crying out in pain and they made her wait 45mins for assistance. We were told to wait for the next shift of nurses to come on and she was not washed for days . My grandmother was completely forgotten about. We requested an autopsy and the hospital told us we could not have one done because she died in the hospital. What a horrible place with an incompetent staff. Within 13days of being there she deteriorated at an alarming pace and we are taking further action more

OB/GYN 10/14/2010

I was 28 weeks pregnant and had a UTI and was in severe pain so I went to the nearest hospital in the area which was Coney Island Hospital ER. The staff that I saw during registration were great and had me quickly evaluated but as soon as I went unto the floor it was quite different. The RN was extremely rude. She told me why don't I go to another hospital or call my OB/GYN. Mind you it was 5am and I was in severe pain. She then placed the Fetal Heart rate monitor on wrong. Instead of getting the babies HR, she was getting my heart rate. I was very uncomfortable on the bed b/c she wanted me not to move half on my side for 30min with the monitor incorrectly gathering data that was in the end invalid. Another nurse came in after 20min to place the monitor correctly. Then a different nurse came to put an iv line in my arm in and on the way to placing it she fell. I couldn't believe my eyes that these people were treating me. Only a few of the staff were kind and the rest didn't have any bed side manor or even introduce themselves to me. I am also in the medical field and would never want to go there again. Only patients who don't have any medical background may think this is a good hospital but the staff i encountered were bad. more

Coney Island Hospital -gets a bad rap 11/15/2007

Let me say in defense of CI Hospital, my father was brought in by ambulance in very bad shape. After being treated at Lutheran medical Center and Victory Memorial, both of which he discharged himself from (despite being very ill) Coney Island Hospital has proven to be the best hospital you could ask for. We never received so much as a call from the other two "hospitals" asking if my father was home-forget about safe. Granted, he's a grown man, but where is the accountablity of these other medical facilitis? Since being admitted to CI Hospital, he has received unbelievable care and the staff knows what they are doing. As far as Coney Island being in a "bad" neighborhood, that reviewer should take a look around and see if he/she can afford to live in areas surrounding the hospital. I live in Sea Gate, where you can not even look at a house for less then 600,000 dollars. I would not hesitate to bring my CHILDREN to this fine hospital, because due to the high volume of cases they treat on a daily basis, they do a DAMN fine job! more

don't even take your dog over there 2/25/2007

one of the worst hospital ever i have seen , there commercial poster says" we are prepared for anything " .... BIG LIE !! they are not even prepared for delivering normal babies ... lazy staff & inconvenient services ... more

bad hospital 8/13/2005

Coney Island Hospital is one of the WORST hospitals in NYC and NY State. One time when I had severely cut myself during a bike accident I had to wait for what seemed like hours when I was bleeding, but since it is such a high crime area where shootings and stabbings occur frequently I recommend you travel to another hospital despite the circumstances. more
