The Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Museum was one of the most sublime displays I've seen. Celebrating Japanese poetry and philosophy, the festival delivers demonstrations from Martial Arts masters, poets, and artists as well as hundreds of cherry trees in full blossom.
Pros: Beatiful festival, demonstrations, and cherry blossoms
Cons: Parking

Definitely one of the hipper places to be nowadays. The club usually has a long line, but once in, it's well worth it. You have every decked out to go in and have fun. I'd definitely check it out make sure you show up a bit before 12 to get in, otherwise, you're out of luck. The mixed drinks are done fairly well, and they have a wide selection of beers to choose from as well. Inside, it will be really dark, but what do you expect? It's a club! I'd definitely grab one of the velvety lounge chairs and do some sightseeing as well. The help staff isn't really that friendly, but then again, it's hard to listen to anyone with the massively loud speakers playing rap/hip-hop/dance/ and techno grooves. So enjoy yourself, and get down here.

Frank J. Barone Funeral Home has been in my neighborhood for many, many years. A lot of my friends and people on my block have used their services, and they have been happy with their services. I have been to a lot of wakes there and I think they do a nice job. The prices seem to be reasonable. The people who work there are very professional in appearance. They are conveniently located across the street from St. Therese of Liseux church. The interior is nothing fancy or anything, and it's kind of small, but who really cares about that or notices when you are going to a wake anyway. It serves it's purpose and it's close to the church so the funerals are sure to be on time.

I went to BARC to adopt a cat, and was greeted with a distant manner. They told me to find my way into the cat room and look at the cats. Really, noone assisted me or helped me choose a cat. They proceeded to greatly downplay the agressiveness of the cat I wanted, claiming the cat was "shy." After being attacked twice within 24 hours (and with NO provoking on my part), I decided I needed to return the cat, which I had then had for 3 weeks.
When I returned the cat, the owner was present, and did not care AT ALL about the cat's behavior or true personality.
While I appreciate that BARC is a no-kill shelter, I would be very wary as to the "story" they tell you about whatever animal you may want to adopt. They also don't refund the $100 adoption fee.

I am not a Catholic but I have been to this church several times. Most of my friends attend this church regularly so I went with them a few times. The church is huge and is very beautifully built. I've been there once on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve the church was full and had a huge tree inside of it. There were many decorations everywhere and the beautiful sounds of the organ filled the church. I've been to several churches but this one is by far the most beautiful.

It all comes together here at the Central Library of the Brooklyn Library. If you can't get it here, you need to go to the New York Branch. But chances are, they have it here.
First, the building. It's worth the trip just to see the architecture. The building is impressive and the main lobby does offer exhibits from time to time.
But the helpful staff and the deep selection of books, that is why people come from all over to visit. Two huge floors open to the public, not including the reading room of books that you can only reference and the "special order" books available to read in the library.
If you need it, you can get it here. Or they will order it for you. Great staff, by the way, and well worth the trip for that book you really need.

Prospect Park is probably one of the smallest YMCAs in NYC, but for me, it's still one of the best. Granted, it doesn't have as many machines as the other YMCAs, yet it's the one I keep returning to. (I have a CityWide membership, so I can go to any YMCA in the city if I choose.)
The facility just got renovated. The upstairs cardio room has been expanded to add more machines, plus the walls are now painted in neon green and the purple horizontal ceiling lights are arranged in slants. The cozy stretch room was moved during the renovation but is now back in service. The two dance studios are still there; the spinning and yoga classes are extremely popular. There are also new CYBEX machines in the good ol' weight training room.
My only complaints are: 1) the place is packed right after work and you may have to wait a while before getting onto your machine; and 2) some of the new machines have TVs with terrible reception, so if you want to listen to something, either go on one of the other machines near the window (their TV connection is different) or bring your own iPod, as no radios are allowed. (Of course, bring your headphones.) I also wish the pool was larger. It's also old. Nevertheless, Prospect Park is planning to renovate the pool area. It's also nice and warm.
What I really like is the stuff you don't expect in a small gym that only charges $40/month for membership (or about $80/month for CityWide): a nice sauna, steam room, and lots of towels (OK, they've put in a two-towel limit). A Super C grocery store and a CVS pharmacy are also nearby.
Best of all are the people: the staff are very friendly and helpful, and there are lots of 20- to 30- somethings and young families. In fact, at a Manhattan charity, my friends (who live in different parts of the city) and myself recently discussed our gyms--and were surprised to learn that out of the 10 people working at my table, four of us are Prospect Park YMCA members. How cool is that?
Pros: Friendly staff, cool Cardio Room decor, great place to meet 20-40 year olds, great value for money; pool is nice and warm
Cons: One of the smallest NYC YMCAs; not enough machines after work, some with bad TV reception; pool is small

What can I say about this place except that I'm so glad I'm out? Just kidding, I think. Brooklyn Tech is considered one of the best New York City public schools, along with Stuy and Bronx Science. I didn't study nor did I finish my entrance exam (I had a good 5 pages left at the end of the test because 1. I am slow and 2. that test bored me to tears), so I don't think admittance into Brooklyn Tech is that big a deal. There are many other non-specialized high schools with equal or maybe even superior education (i.e., Midwood). I don't think I learned anything from my years at Tech besides the fact that I am horrible at cheating, and know absolutely nothing about telnets, pings, C++. As another poster had written, Mr. Hoftyzer was definitely one of my favorite teachers; however, that hasn't changed my opinion on chemistry, which I still hate.
