Awesome for families and adults 8/31/2006

The Franlin institute is a fun stop on the parkway for everyone. There are a lot of exhibits with many changing every few months, as well as some old favorites. The museum is great for kids, families and people of all ages, you can spend a few solid hours looking around and playing with various interactive exibits. Great for those the love science! The admission is reasonable and the building is beautiful to walk around. more

Amazing! Great for the kids and adults! 4/16/2006

I went here while visiting Philly to check out UPenn. I was torn between going to the Franklin Institute or touring the historical district -- and boy was I glad to have chosen the first! They have great hands-on exhibits that teach about electricity, bloodflow, etc. What TRULY amazed me was the limited time Body Worlds exhibit. (It's there till April 23rd, 2006, so catch it if you can!) more

Fun! 4/13/2006

Although many parts of this museum are oriented towards children, it's a huge amount of fun for adults as well. In fact, it's resposible for one of my most enjoyable days this year. Particularly fun is a thing where you can build a Mars Rover from KNEX and test it out on a simulation of the Martian surface. more

great stuff 4/7/2006

I love the IMAX theater and the various traveling exhibits they have (though Body Worlds wasn't that great). Their gift shop is fabulous. They're right down the parkway from the Art Museum, and across the street from the Academy of Natural Sciences. All the touristy stuff together. FI is a little pricey, but worth it if you go to a unique exhibit--and almost all of them are. more

...what you'll find here! Growing up in the Philadelphia area meant that the Franklin Institute was a staple of my childhood weekends. Particularly since there are rotating exhibits (the (in)famous Body Worlds at present) all but constantly changing, I can vouch that there's always something for everyone. Even adults can have fun, indulging their inner child. A wonderful place on a rainy day - or any day, for that matter! Look out of IMAX releases of movies - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire have showed here. more

Wonderful Museum! 3/22/2006

The Franklin Institute is a fabulous museum. It is truly fun for the entire family. They have some child oriented exhibits, as well as those geared towards adults. The exhibits are well done and intriguing to a wide variety of people. The IMAX always has a wide variety of shows. One of my favorite places in Philly! more

The Franklin Museum in Philadelphia is one of the best scientifc museums in the country. Its got a lot of the earlier scientfic breakthroughs exhibited in a very detailed and well thought out manner. kids are encouraged to interact with a lot of exhibits and its a great way to educate your kids about the sciences. they offer tours on certain days and have a bunch of classes organized for the little ones. more

So much cool stuff to do 1/14/2006

I've been here a ton of times from childhood on up and it's always good. The Franklin Institute is all about hands-on learning. There are things to walk through, buttons to push and exhibits to interact with. An easy way to spend the whole day doing something fun as a family. Everything is about science, but it's not work to learn about it. There is also the option of watching a movie on the imax screen there. If you are there with older kids, this is a great option. Younger kids? Probably not, it can be a little intense. more

World Class Museum 10/31/2005

Great place to take the kids, as this place has lots of things for kidsn to do, while learning. It is very much a hands on museum, as kids can play with a penduleum, floating beach ball and irrigation in the sand. They also have special exhibits that pass through, which are usually very fun. They also have an omniverse theater with a few different shows optimizing the effects of the theater. more

We Love This Place 9/11/2005

My family of 4 has been a member of the Franklin Institute for almost 5 years now. The science museum I remember as a kid had 1 or 2 exciting exhibits, however, this place has been totally revamped in the last 4 years. The planitarium has now been brought into the 21st century, the Train and Air exhibits have been updated and kids really love them. The most recent addition of the sports exhibit keeps my kids wanting to go back again and again. I feel lucky this great place is in our city! Be prepared to pay for parking and skip the cafeteria's overpriced bad food. more

This is a very good museum. They have many different exhibits, some of which are traveling exhibits and change every now and then. They also have different events and activities for kids to do. It is good for everyone in the family (except maybe very young kids of course). They also have a planetarium and an IMAX, which is always a fun thing to go do. I'm sure you'll want to be there for the whole day! more

A fun place to be a kid 8/20/2005

This is a hands on science museum. The whole family can have a great time here and will want to go back again! They have a planetarium with a great show and even the younger kids seemed to get caught up in it and they sat and watched it. They also have an IMAX theater which is a separate charge and is a bit pricey, but they have interesting shows and they are so great in IMAX. This is one place you should really try to visit! more

Philly Science Institute Offers Family Friendly Fun and Learning 8/18/2005

The Franklin Institute is a science museum in the Art Museum area that offers fun and education for the family. It has an Imax theater that shows nature films and offers a planetarium with revolving educational shows on the stars and planets. The highlights of the museum include a toy train driving around the atrium, a weather room that recreates weather phenomena, and a model of the human heart large enough to walk through. The museum sometimes sacrifices pure science for entertainment but kids will have a great time. more

The Best Science Museum Ever! 8/17/2005

You have to plan to spend the day here, and then you will want to come back again and again. There are so many hands on exhibits and there is so much to learn by doing at this wonderful place. We love the giant heart model. It beats and you walk through it and travel the path that blood takes through your heart, how cool is that. There was a giant maze the last time we were there. My kids spent a lot of time in the physics area doing all kinds of neat experiments. We also really liked the weather station and communications areas too. We can hardly wait to go back! more

Definitely a fun day 8/17/2005

I went to the Franklin Institute as a high school student and had a blast. For a museum, it's definitely top notch. They have an iMax theater as well as several exhibits. At the time, they had this sandbox with water spouts. My friend and I spent almost an hour building dams and making "dam" jokes. If I'm not mistaken, it was also the place Rocky ran up the steps in the movie. Be sure to check it out! more

Science Museum 8/16/2005

Although this is a perennial favorite for elementary school class trips, it can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Especially since they rehabbed the Heart and added the vertigo inducing Imax theater. Try not to go in the spring when all the schools mob the place. There is a lot of interactive exhibits that are really cool. Have fun and be a kid for a day. more

Science Fun 8/16/2005

Every year, our third grade class travels to the Frankiln Institute for a field trip. The students have a blast and so do the chaperones. There are many interactive exhibits and scientific demonstrations. There are theaters that show movies about a variety of scientific topics. The best part is an area where children under 9 can go through and touch the exhibits and see how different pieces work. We love it! more

Great place for kids and grown-ups 8/11/2005

I love the Franklin Institute ever since I started going there as a kid. Now, I can bring my kid there to show her all the neat history and science aspects of the museum. My favorite part as a kid (and it seems, for my kid too) is the area where you can use telephones to call all the different famous historic figures. They have a prerecorded message about their life and work. It's a real treat! more

Something here for all ages 8/8/2005

The Franklin Institute is a staple in Philadelphia. Everyone who lives in or around Philly or visits deserves to go here no matter what their interest level in science is. Kids will enjoy the many interactive exhbitis such as the famous giant human heart you can walk through. Adults can observe a full-size locomotive train or watch a show in the IMAX theater. Words really cannot do justice to the plethora of exhibits in this museum established from the money of Ben Franklin himself. Admission is reasonable at under $20 for adults. There are special exhibits (one was the history of video games) that are brought in from time to time. Parking can be difficult to find at a reasonable rate, but not impossible. There are places to eat inside the museum. It's a very bright, impressive building. Definitely worth a trip. more
