Yann has amazing cakes! They look great and taste delicious. We’ve bought their cakes to bring to gatherings, and they always elicit oohs and ahs. If you don’t have an occasion to buy a whole cake, they also sell mini pastries that are also very good. The prices are very good considering the high quality.

I have been in Phildelphia for 6 months and have been looking for a place that is cozy/comfortable, serves coffee, has a good selection of food, and most importantly has good, friendly service. This place fits the bill. The food is flavorful and very reasonably priced. There is also a great vareity on the menu, plenty of vegetarian options! The place had a great energy to it. Even the other patrons were friendly. Coming from the midwest, this is just the type of place I have been looking for.
Pros: Great food & service

Remedy is one of my favorite places in Center City to caffeinate while studying, reading, or whatever. Their teas are fantastic and I love the cheery, Anthropologie-esque decor. If I'm going to stick around for a while, I'll order a brewpot of tea and a ready-made sandwich (favorite combo = classic jasmine tea and the cilantro-chili-chicken roll). They have free wireless, but recently shuttered most (all?) of their power outlets, so make sure to have a full charge on your laptop before arriving.
I have always had prompt, polite service in my numerous visits. I do end up spending more money than if I go to a coffeeshop, as a small cup of tea will run you about $2.50, but the quality of the tea and the experience are well worth it, in my opinion. Plus, when I leave Remedy, I have the sweet smell of tea on me for the rest of the day, as opposed to the sour reek of coffee that wafts from my clothing after spending any amount of time at a coffeeshop.
Their music is tasteful (maybe even hip?) and soft enough for casual studying. They're open Monday - Saturday, closed on Sundays. Enjoy the tea!
Pros: Ambience, quality of tea
Cons: A little pricey

After reading the lackluster postings here, I have to stick up for the Bean. What a cool, fun place in the middle of South Street. The homemade baked goods are delicious, the staff is friendly and it's a place I'm happy to frequent. Yay Bean!

I was visiting my friend in Philly from Baltimore and I was exhausted from trecking through the Philadelphia Museum of Art. What a fabulous place to relax and chat about the fabulous art we just saw! I loved the music selection, the Ramones and the Clash, both playing on a rainy Saturday afternoon. My maple mochiato was the most perfect drink I've ever had. Thank you Troy!
Love,
Baltimore visitor

Xando has great coffee and teas but the highlight by far is the smores dessert complete with flame, graham crackers, marshmellows and hershey's chocolate. It is so much fun to whip up smores over good conversation and a relaxed atmosphere. We always went in Chestnut Hill, now we'll have to find a new location before the smores season rolls around again.
Pros: fun, inexpensive

There's something about the atmosphere of this particular Cosi that makes it so perfect for the Ritz Theater area. The staff is friendly, and the food is what you'd expect from a Cosi, but it just has that broken in feel, and I'm always comfortable there. Sometimes it can get pretty crowded, especially when movies at the Bourse let out, but it's a great spot to meet before a movie or when you're not quite ready to go home after one.
