More
The Franklin Institute is a science museum in the Art Museum area that offers fun and education for the family. It has an Imax theater that shows nature films and offers a planetarium with revolving educational shows on the stars and planets. The highlights of the museum include a toy train driving around the atrium, a weather room that recreates weather phenomena, and a model of the human heart large enough to walk through. The museum sometimes sacrifices pure science for entertainment but kids will have a great time.

Thie Civil War Museum is a great place to go for a history lesson for yourself or for your kids. I have gone here a few times myself and have taken my kids here. They really like learning about what took place during the Civil War. Tickets to get in are very cheap. They run about five dollars for adults and two dollars for children under 12. Everyone should go at least once.

More
The Phillies have been around Philly for a long time, and they really are a good team, despite their record. The Phils keep players for the long run (lieberthal, abreu), but they do need some advice on management. They are a family and community focused team, and are worth watching live.

Forest theater isn't as good as the Merriam - not many places are - but it's up there. I saw the Phantom of the Opera here and even on the higher levels you get a great view of the stage. The seats are comfortable to sit in for long periods of time and the aisles aren't so cramped that you fear going to the bathroom because it will make everyone else in your row hate you.

More
I just returned from visiting PA and visiting this museum. I have to say that this museum is outstanding. The day was hot and muggy and I wasn't sure if it was worth it to make the trek to see this museum. Boy was I surprised! This museum is huge and offers lots of rare items to look at. It took nearly 2 hours to tour the whole museum!
This was my first visit but definitely not my last. Check it out whenever you're in the area.

More
The Philadelphia Zoo is America's first zoo and it has recently been extensively renovated to include new attractions and better provisions. In particular, the Philadelphia Zoo is known for its variety of big cats, its parrot house, its nice petting zoo for children, and its rides (all of which unfortunately cost additional money) such as the Swan Boat ride which can set a romantic mood to a zoo outing for a date. The Zoo can also be rented for weddings or other special occasions for something different and memorable.

More
One of the best things to do in the summer time in Philly is to attend a concert at the Mann music center in Fairmont Park. An outdoor amphitheaters that sees many classical and pop acts in the summer, the Mann is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can get cheap lawn tickets for the orchestra concerts, bring a blanket, some wine and cheese, and enjoy great music under the stars! Every summer, there are a couple of Philadelphia Orchestra concerts that end with fireworks.....what a better way to spend the evening?

Check out the Kimmel center for concerts and other performing arts. The center was build with the community in mind, and it's very easy to just walk in and take in the magnificent architectural views. They've also made it easy for the public to enjoy the arts....something called, Free in the Plaza!, showcases various free concerts in the plaza area throughout the year, and is a great way to experience the Kimmel center if you can't afford to go to the concerts in the 2 fabulous halls. They also have discounted tickets ($10) for certain same day concerts (Community Rush tickets, or Student Rush tickets.)

The Flyers have built up much history ever since the "Broad Street Bullies" of the 1970s. Although they no longer play in the storied Spectrum, the passion and excitement are still there in their wonderful arena (Wachovia Center). With ticket prices having recently been cut due to the NHL lockout, it's a pretty good deal nowadays to see a game although lower-level seats are still pricey. General Manager Bob Clarke has not yet put a Cup-winning team on the ice, but they get close every single year. I will not be completely happy until they win a championship, but with the team staying competitive every year and never seeming to rest on its laurels then there seems to be a realistic chance every time for them to win it all.

The Merriam Theater is a wonderful. I saw a Tyler Perry play here and i almost fell out of my seat laughing. The theater itself is kept quite up to date with nice furnishing. It is very easy as well to figure out the seating layout. It is best to get tickets in advance because some shows are enormously popular. Parking can be a nuisance so it is best to use public transportation. There are so many type of events here so there is something for everyone.
