Do not eat anything the day you go to Passage to India. Eat a light dinner the night before. You want to get everything out of your $11 ticket to happiness. You want to get at least 4 platefuls of vegteble pakora, tikka masala, naan, and fruit. You will want a two bowl minimum of the rice pudding. You will eat too much. You will rest your head on the table and groan for 10 minutes before you barely make it out of the restaurant. You will do it all again next weekend.

More
Stellar is a great little coffee shop on the corner of Spruce street and 11th. It has great coffee, and a wide selection of coffee drinks and teas. The chais are especially delicious! They also have an assortment of bagels and pastries-- day old ones are cheaper! The atmosphere is friendly, and there's always someone there ready to have a conversation if you want one. Its also a great place to stop on the way to work or school for some coffee, or to sit for a while with friends or a book. Unfortunately, they often play incredibly loud music which makes the atmoshpere considerably less appitezing. When its nice out you can avoid this by sitting outside. The tables inside are unstable and the seats are somewhat odd. Still, great place.

I HAVE BEEN TO MANY SUPER MARKETS, BUT I HAVE TO SAY SHOP RITE IS THE BEST WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD SHOPPING. THEIR PRICES ARE THE BEST. THEY DOUBLE THEIR COUPONS WHICH IS A BIG HELP WHEN YOU HAVE A LARGE FAMILY TO FEED. THEIR CASHIERS AND OTHER EMPLOYEES ARE ALWAYS COURTEOUS AND HELPFUL. I WOULDN'T GROCERY SHOP ANYWHERE ELSE.

New China Court claims to have the lowest prices in town, and I think they do. They should also claim to have the best tasting Chinese food in town because they definetly do! They have lunch specials, combination platters and lots of other great dishes. They usually have a pot of hot tea on the counter you can help yourself to. They are family owned and are very nice.

I shop at this market (which also has a Chinese/Vietnamese takeout area) every time I am in the Bella Vista area and I must say that it is truly a unique experience to shop here. The prices seem cheap, and you find all sorts of special products that other markets do not carry. I love how there is a lot of free parking in front, and how the market sells very fresh produce. The area is also decent. This is across from the Lofts at Bella Vista inside Wing Phat plaza. If you want to try something special and different, shop here. However, I will warn you that the store is not beautiful. Don't expect a Whole Foods style atmosphere.

More
If you want to eat above-average Chinese food in Philly, I would recommend Ocean Harbor. Their banquet/special-event menu is superb (think of many sumptuous courses of food for about $15 a person), but even the dim sum (lunch) is tasty. And, at $3-$5 per dim sum dish, the price is right. You get to try all sorts of foods! Unfortunately, the food does taste like there is a lot of MSG [it does give some people heartburn] and the atmosphere is not great. The dining hall is very noisy and crowded. My tip is:
Drink a lot of tea to wash down the greasy food!
