Best

First of all, this is a high end restaurant, they take reservations, and most people go well dressed. I like to go to restaurants with great food but I do not like to dress up, an...

I used to pass by Farallon on the weekends and always wanted to try it out. From the outside, the decor looks really grand. But when I actually went there, it wasn't so special....

Here's why I would go back 1/6/2003

I took my out of town friend to this place and she love it. The under the water decor/theme is so eye catching and it was done very tastefully, not cheesy. The food was great. We had the mussels, seared foie gras, the sea bass and stuffed quail with foie gras. The Sea Bass was good but it is the mussells, the foie gras and the stuffed quail that really made an impression. The service was great too...our waitess took her time to explain everything on the menu to us, took our coats, make sure we like the wine, and make sure our car are there out in the front when we leave. I would definitely want to go back again. Pros: Great decor, Excellent service, good food Cons: expensive valet more

Go but avoid the holidays! 12/19/2002

I have been a frequent visitor to Farallon and have loved almost everything. The decor is like a Dali dream in Atlantis, the food is dazzling and the staff impeccable. However there is one thing I noticed last week while dining, too many tourists. I think the holidays brings in a lot of yahoos from Union Square who somehow miss Postrio and end up here. I can't blame the restaurant for its clientele but then again I would wait until the offseason to enjoy the splendors of the sea. Cons: Tourists!!! more

Yummie! 11/19/2002

I love the food here, and its neat to sit under jelly fish. You must try this place at least once. just wish it was cheaper. more

Great!!! 11/4/2002

Food was great, decor was great, service was great. The price was what you would expect for this caliber of restaurant. more

Super Selection 10/23/2002

Great place to absorb atmosphere and enjoy some really great food. The service was excellent. Liz was great! Don't miss dessert. The chocolate crepes were excellent. I was expecting the chocolate to change the texture of the crepe, but they made them perfectly. They were also kind enough to give us a little sample of their pumpkin ice cream. It was very tasty. They have a very nice wine list, but we were somewhat limited in our budget. We did manage to enjoy a very nice French white that did not put the dinner bill out of site. I spent 3 days in San Francisco, and this was the best place we visited. There menu is limited to meat entries only, they may want to come up with something for vegetarians. I will recommend this place to anyone visiting San Fran. more

Flawless Experience 9/11/2002

Wow...what an incredible experience. From the moment we walked into the door, we knew we were in good hands. The sommolier took care of us from beginning to end making not only impeccable wine recommendations but also keeping cost in mind. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and lobster raviolo...both of which were delicious. Raviolo was very rich...excellent flavor and the lobster was moist and succulent...not chewey at all. We had the grouper and branzino for our entrees which were equally as impressive as the apps! The wine selection again was perfect. For dessert...chocolate crepes (as if I needed anything else) again fabulous. All in all a memorable experience. Excellent waitstaff and superb chefs! Pros: FOOD!, Wine List & Sommolier more

What's all the hype about? 8/29/2002

I used to pass by Farallon on the weekends and always wanted to try it out. From the outside, the decor looks really grand. But when I actually went there, it wasn't so special. People came in from the streets in shorts and jeans. The food was good but for those prices I was expecting a lot more. I ordered the seabass which was cooked perfectly, but yet the sauce/taste of the dish wasn't spectacular. Overall I was disappointed by the restaurant and will probably not go there again. Pros: prompt seating, romantic Cons: expensive more

Impressive decor and food. 8/28/2002

If you would like to have a great dinner with your special someone or just with a couple of friends and you love great seafood and like a lavish environment; then Farallon is the place to go. Service is impecable. The best seafood place I know. more

Postrio is better! 8/2/2002

Though the interior is gorgeous and the service quite good, the food is much over-hyped. Had a company function there once, and EVERYTHING had blood oranges in it (the salad, the drink, etc.). Ordered a steak medium well another time; it came back pink on the inside. I don't care if it's ""trendy"" to order beef rare, when I pay that amount of money for food, I'd like it to be cooked as I want -- otherwise, why do they bother to ask?! Tasted my husband's food, but prefer anything/everythinh at Postrio. Might return for drinks, but can't be bothered to eat there again. Pros: Gorgeous interior, Good service more

Lunch is a great option! 7/30/2002

Although the hostess was very rude upon our arrival (why does that seem to be a prerequisite at some of these restaurants?), once we were seated we had a fabulous experience. We went for lunch and all had the tasting menu with wine pairing, which was five perfect sized courses that let us taste many dishes. Our waiter was perfect and the decor amusing. Lunch is a great way to experience the restaurant without spending too much. more

Beautiful 7/20/2002

By far one of the most wonderful restaurant in the City. We've dined for lunch and dinner quite a few times. Food, service has always been great (not snooty like some places) and quite a large wine list to choose from. We always enjoy taking our out of town friends/relatives here; they are blown away by the decor and food. Pros: great bar, friendly service more

Nice presentation, service is snooty 7/15/2002

The restaurant has a nice aquarium like decor, food presentation was good, however, our waiter was very rude and pretentious. He made us feel that we weren't good enough to be waited on by him. Perhaps because we didn't order the big ticket items that he suggested we get. Though we did get the fresh oyster sampler with the salmon roe caviar, which was very good. Both of the dishes we ordered, the fish and duck, were terribly over saturated with a heavily salted sauce, causing the underlying food to be tasteless. Pros: nice decor Cons: poor service, food is mediocre more
