Great high end restaurant that you can go in casual clothing. 8/29/2008

First of all, this is a high end restaurant, they take reservations, and most people go well dressed. I like to go to restaurants with great food but I do not like to dress up, and its nice to have the option to dress just ""comfortable"". The food is very good and up to what you expect at this price range. The service is good too, although I personally do not like to be asked how everything is while I have my mouth full. It is considered good service to check up on the customer so I guess they are just doing their job. Pros: Good food Cons: Price more

Fantastic food and service 3/7/2008

Our experience started with the butter which was great and went uphill from there. The Mediterannean Shellfish Soup was light and incredibly flavorful. The seared Kona Blue Kampachi with a light paprika dusting with a truffle ravioli and carmelized onion jus was a new taste sensation for us. The Hawaiin Walu melted in our mouths and the caramel apple sundae with brown butter pecan brittle made me want more. The service was impeccable and this was on Saturday night! Pros: don't even have to go outside if you are at the Post Thestre Cons: pricey but worth it more

San Francisco ""has been"" 2/4/2008

Farallon is a San Francisco ""has been"" that should be embarrassed to consider itself an elite restaurant in this town. I recently had dinner at Farallon and the whole experience was down right unacceptable for the price tag. more

Great platter dish 11/17/2007

My favorite dish at Farallon is the grand prix platter dish. A two-level dish of shrimps, clams, oysters, lobsters and crabs are brought to the table, which gives a WOW to the table. The entre is a little less appealing but it does have a sensitive flavoring. I wish the menu had more variety, though. more

Pleasant staff, great food, beautiful decor. 7/18/2007

OK, so I felt like I had to write and tell of my positive experience @ Farallon. First things first. We were late for our reservation but they worked with us and made sure we had a nice booth just the same. The valet parking was fast, affordable (for the area), and efficient...also, our car was waiting for us before we walked out of the restaurant after our meal. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and attentive and was happy to answer any questions we had. Now I know it's a seafood restaurant, but I ordered the beef and it was good. There was a little bit of fat on it for filet mignon, but it was delicious. It was perfectly paired with the side dishes as well. My date did eat fish, but I forget which kind. Either way, she loved it. I will definitely go back. beautiful decor with delicious food? Do it, but wear deep pocket pants. Pros: Decor, Food Cons: Price only. more

20,000 Leagues away from fine dining 6/15/2007

For all of it's 20,000 Leagues under the sea decor, Farallon is 20,000 leagues away from the big league... Pros: Food comes quickly so you can leave sooner Cons: one giant con if you ask me more

Great Service & Atmosphere,Poor Food 4/9/2007

My husband and I recently went to this resturaunt for our anniversary and made reservations on the internet. We were very excited when we arrived and our table was immediatly ready and wonderfully located. The kitchen was located in the dining area that they sat us in, but we were so taken by the beautiful atmosphere that this was not a concern. The waiter was very attentive and seemed to be very knowledgable of the menu, and wine. As our entree was presented we both looked at each other and I could tell without words we were not expecting the dissapointment after such wonderful atmosphere and great service. I had ordered the Lobster Special @ $60, and my husband ordered the Halibut. The Lobster came with what looked like steak french fries to me, but with a fancy name. My husbands plate was so sparce and bland. We then thought maybe the dessert could pull them out of the hole they were digging, but not so. Being bakery owners and knowing quality desserts they went down hill fast. The waiter then forgot my coffee that I so much wanted with my dessert and brought it with the check instead. The final ending was with a $360 bill. I dont think we will be returning. If service could be rated they would get a 10, but food was only a 5. Pros: Decor, Service Cons: Poor Food, High Price more

Excellent service, tasty food! 3/25/2007

I was looking for a good restaurant in San Francisco for quite some time. Having spent almost two years in this city (after moving here from Europe) I had hard times finding something that can live up to my expectations. Now I am writing my first review ever simply because I want ""good food lovers"" to know that there is a place worth their consideration...and money! Farallon is just great. Service is extremely competent, food is very tasty and remember that not only seafood is good here! I like the atmosphere of this restaurant which is especially recommended for romantic dinners. more

Great Seafood in a Dreamy Setting 3/4/2007

My BF and I wanted a nice seafood dinner on a Friday night, so we tried Farallon. It was really good. We started with pork terrine for me and stuffed calamari for him. His was fantastic: the calamari was cooked perfectly and the mushroom sauce that accompanied it was to-die-for. My terrine was good, but nowhere close to his. For the main course, I order bluenose bass with butternut squash and baby lentils, and he order sole with creamy crab and mixed vegetables. The bass was magnificent! It was prepared perfectly and complemented divinely by the lentils and squash. His sole was good, but unremarkable. We had little tasting spoons of bloodorange sorbet + cream for dessert, which was a nice touch. The wine menu is great, too, the Scherrer Pinot we ordered was top-notch. Service was very good. Pros: Setting, seafood, service Cons: Somewhat noisy, menu a bit inconsistent more

I will probably be back. 2/16/2007

Based on good reviews and our liking for seafood, my boyfriend and I made reservations to celebrate our anniversary. Pros: The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The decor is fun. The food is good. Cons: The vent above the booth where we were seated made me cold. Use valet! more

Tremendously Overrated 12/29/2006

My wife and I read the reviews, looked at the website, walked by and read the menu. Seemed like a nice place. Expecting a nice dinner, we were greeted by a staff that was either disinterested, incompetent or just plain rude. I am not referring to just one person, the entire staff is sub-par. After an extensive wait (with lots of open tables and milling staff in view), got to the table only to be ignored by the waiter. There was a director from LA at another table and it appeared our waiter was looking for a career change. The food arrived just as we were getting up to leave, and I'm thinking, ""OK, maybe the food is good"". No. While there was some effort in presentation, the food itself was somewhat bland and could only be described as mediocre. Throw in the fact that they vastly overcharge for what you get, and I would not recommend this to anyone (except if you are a director from LA, then I assume your service is good). On a positive note, the decor is somewhat fun. Unfortunately, you don't eat the decor. more

Great Service! 12/29/2006

I've heard mixed reviews of this restaurant. To me, I only go by the my own personal experiences, within reason, of course. Quite honestly, I was hoping for a great experience, but was prepared for a mediocre one. Thankfully, our dining experience more than exceeded our expectations. From the moment we stepped in the front doors, to the moment we left, we had a wonderful experience! Pros: Decor, Service, Ambiance Cons: Parking more

the best dinner in 7 years, no longer... 12/9/2006

wow. were we surprised about a client dinner at farallon on thursday night, december 7th, 2006. Pros: you get to admire a well designed restaraunt with a cute theme... Cons: the 'experience'. your not there to look at the pretty lamps. your there to eat. more

Great for a special occasion 11/24/2006

My husband brought me here for my birthday and it was an incredible experience. The decor is absolutely fabulous. We split the raw seafood platter and had a cheese plate for dessert. Even though it was incredibly expensive, it was worth it because of the quality of the seafood - eveything was really fresh and the best I've had in a long time. Also, if you order a bottle of wine off the wine list they'll waive the corkage fee if oyou bring another bottle of your own. I would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion. more
