We went here on a Thursday night around 9:30pm, which is half price Sangria night, FYI. Our waiter, Morty, chose some great options! We recommend the Fondue!!! The olives are mild but delicious. We also had the Sea Bass, Short Ribs and Sliders, all which were delicious, but the Sea Bass was our favorite. All the portions were great size and we were even too stuffed for dessert. I could see how it would be crowed and too noisy on the weekends, but the food definitely makes this place worth visiting. We will be back. PS? watch out for the fondue gas.
Pros: Great food, great portions, Sangria on Thursday
Cons: Parking, valet is is expensive

My husband and I went to this San Francisco landmark restaurant the other evening to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary and all I can say is.....what a romantic evening! The restaurant is cozy(the lighting is great!) , it wasn't too crowded on the night we were there (perhaps a sign of this awful economy?!) The waiter was gracious and very efficient, the food exceptional and the dessert (yes you have to save room for dessert!) was scrumptious! and what followed later on that evening, well, just use your imagination! ;) Seriously if you are looking for fine dining, a romantic dinner or perhaps to entertain business clients than definitely pay this San Francisco landmark restaurant a visit, you will be very glad you did!
Pros: Great food, attentive wait staff, wonderful wine list, romantic atmosphere, great location!
Cons: Nothing!

This is hands down the best place to stuff your face =]
(I could be a slogan writer)
Any chain Chinese restaurant can make chicken chow mien or beef broccoli, but none of them order for you like the House of Nanking, I went there and shoveled the food like I was in the military and didn't have another second. After eating so much and leaving I thought I couldn't eat at another Chinese restaurant again and I didn't not for almost 4 months.
Yes its a little dirty with the mass of people in and out you dont have time to clean everything when people are hungry, yes they order for you its part of the excitement and shock if you have never been, and if there is a line out the door it means the food is damn good and if you leave your missing out on something special.. people need to understand this is a gold mine in the middle of San Francisco...
the truth is you either love it or hate it but it is a food place and thats what I go there to do is eat. So i could careless if there is a little dirt on the ground or crowded at least I'm not eating out of a garbage can.
Pros: Everything
Cons: the idiots who don't appreciate a mom-and-pop restaurant !

I was fortunate enough as tourist, to be invited to dinner at Delfina by a dear friend who lives in the SanFrancisco area. It was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The service was top notch, the food exquisite as was the wine list. The eclectic ambience made it the perfect dining experience.

Zuni Cafe has been around soooo long, and yet it is still so very relevant as a culinary destination. We arrived on a Thursday night and the place was packed. It was around 8pm. We were given a table in a smaller room upstairs, not bad considering we had no reservations. The server was incredibly friendly and very attentive without being overbearing. He made great suggestions and did not become negative when my friend ordered two appetizers. My friend had the polenta with marscapone and a Caesar salad. I had the rabbit salad and the flat iron steak. We split a bottle of Qupe Petite Syrah. There were other items on the menu I wanted (the beat salad, the sole, etc), so you should be able to find a selection of items that will appeal to most tastes. This place has a very sort of New York feel to it. I love it. We will be back!

This is what comes to mind when you think of a world-class dining experience.
I went here for drinks and dessert the other night and everything was fantastic. It's certainly a 'culinary experience'. The food is highly conceptual and experimental but executed well. By conceptual, I mean lots of foams, textures, presentation, and interesting flavor combinations (think basil sorbet).
The space blends industrial features with a streamlined 50's-inspired aesthetic. Prices are moderate to high but totally worth it. This place is pretty classy but not intimidating or rude as some fine dining can be. Our waitress was extremely nice and helpful even though we were just having dessert.
Definitely worth checking out!
They also have a cafe that's open during the day next door. It's kind of equidistant from Embarcadero and Montgomery BART stations.

First of all, this is a high end restaurant, they take reservations, and most people go well dressed. I like to go to restaurants with great food but I do not like to dress up, and its nice to have the option to dress just "comfortable". The food is very good and up to what you expect at this price range. The service is good too, although I personally do not like to be asked how everything is while I have my mouth full. It is considered good service to check up on the customer so I guess they are just doing their job.
They always have something new on the menu and often redo their entire menu with new items. All in all, a typical dinner here with no wine and dessert will cost you about $75 per person. If that is in your price range for a special occasion or just because you want to have great food, I can certainly recommend The Farallon to you.
Pros: Good food
Cons: Price

I went to La Provence for my dad's birthday this weekend. It was a great experience. The place looks like a simple cafe from outside so when we got there we were a little bit worried that it wouldn't be very good but there was nothing to worry about.
Everything we ordered was delicious and service was great too. We started by having a bottle of champagne to celebrate. All waiters wished my dad happy birthday and were very tentative. Since everything that I wanted to get was on a "dine about town" prefix menu i went for it. I really recommend it. It's a great deal.
We ordered appetizers. My parents got Veal Carpaccio,i had duck pistachio "rillette" all of it was delicious.
My dad really likes rabbit and its really hard to find restaurants that serve it. At this place they had Rabbit Confit ravioli. I tried his dish and it was amazing. I was afraid it'd be hard to taste the rabbit in ravioli but you can definitely taste it and it was very good. I had pork and my mom had Bouillabaisse and it was very good too. Boullabaisse had amazing sauce, it was creamy but not too heavy. Pork was very tender and had a great sauce with it.
For dessert my dad had oconut pana cotta and my mom and I got molten chocolate cake. Pana Cotta is usually very sweet this one wasn't too sweet and it was very light. Chocolate cake was served with creme anglaise. The cake was amazing. I usually don't like chocolate cakes but this one was amazing.
The portions were small but filling. Food wasn't heavy and we left very happy and satisfied. The place wasn't crowded but wasn't empty either. Parking wasn't too bad. The prices weren't bad for such a great dinner.

New ownership recently took over and have kept the same food and atmosphere, but the wine list is dramatically improved. Great selection of Calfornia wines in addition to the Spanish and French wines they carried before.
Pros: Easy parking and good food
Cons: Make reservations - can be a long wait on weekends
