In the beginning of September I noticed that my cat, Vegas, was yellow. I had never noticed before, but it was much more noticeable in the sunlight. I had previously taken my dog,...

I love animal kind! 1/18/2011

I love Animal Kind. Yes they are expensive, but they have an A+ facility. It's amazing that place. One of the receptionist had kind of an attitude, I can careless about her. I care about the Doctors and the other receptionists are very nice. I brought my cat here because he was urinating blood and come to find out he had kidney stones. It was so bad that he had to stay over two nights. I received a call EVERY DAY from Dr. Black letting me know on my kitty's progress. I have had animals all my life and have NEVER received a call from a vet checking on my pet. The other cool thing is that you can call them any time and leave a message and I swear Dr. Black calls me back within 30 minutes and if I don't answer leaves me a detailed message of what I should do. I was given two options, operation or no operation and of course I selected NO operation because I cannot afford it. Dr. Black gave me a second alternative and thankfully so far my cat is doing great. I need to take him in a few weeks for an x-ray to check if the kidney stone is gone. Let's hope it is. more

Knowledgeable and well experienced 1/12/2011

My dog has been a patient for many years. I have never had a negative experience: the receptionists are always friendly, as are the vet techs. My dog is a patient of Dr. Salas and we won't see anyone else! She is patient, compassionate, and thorough! What else could you ask for? I would highly recommend Animal Kind. The facility is very clean, they have good hours, moderately priced and above all the veterinarians are knowledgable and well experienced. more

A good and caring business 1/11/2011

I've been going to Animal Kind ever since I got my dog back in 2007. Since then, she's had a number of issues including giardia, bite wounds, and tearing of her cruciate ligaments. Each time I go there I'm treated so well by all the vets, vet techs, and staff. They take their time with me and explain my options clearly. When I call with questions, my calls are promptly returned by the vet who last saw my dog. Honestly, a good, caring business that seems to have become an institution in the Park Slope community. more

Incredible with everything 1/11/2011

I love them. I went here for the emergency room service after a botched teeth extraction at Park Slope Veterinary Care. My cat went into renal failure about a week after the teeth extraction. My cat was in the hospital there for awhile and I took her back quite a few times and saw a bunch of different doctors (whoever was available) and I really liked all of them. My fav is Dr. Stronger. My cat ended up having to be put to sleep, and they were incredible with the entire thing. I've had to do this before and it's pretty strange pay for it ahead of time etc etc--but they really made the entire thing as decent an experience as they could. All the friends I have go here too & love it, I wish I had gone here from the beginning. more

Best Veterinary Hospital in Brooklyn 12/18/2010

We have been going to Animal Kind for many years now. We have 4 dogs and are very pleased with the care all our babies receive there. Our last visit was just today. Our little 2 year old wake up with a infection on her tail. We called up and took her in. The front desk could not have been more polite. Dr. Gibson looked at her, ( he is one of our primary care vet's that we use at Animal Kind) gave her a complete check-up and sent Emma Marie home with some meds. The total bill including the med's came to $95. Not bad at all. We no longer live in the Park Slope area, though we still live in Brooklyn. However, we would never dream of looking for a vet closer. These are our little one's and we want to make sure they get the best of care, which we know they do here at Animal Kind. I have read some of the review's and I have not had any of the bad situations as some have stated, and believe me with 4 dogs we visit often. This is a professional, state of the art office/hospital and yes you can use the same vet as your primary care vet if you wish. But just remember no one is there 7 days a week 24 hours a day. We use about 4 doctor's there on a regular basis so they are very familiar with our little ones. Thanks for all your great work everyone at Animal Kind!!!! This is a good vet. 9/17/2010

I am shocked by these reviews. I've taken my cat to several different vets in the city and Animal Kind is easily the best I have been to. It is true that they have many vets (though you can always request to see your regular vet if you like) and that there is usually a wait past your appointment time (like most medical offices). But apart from that, they are wonderful, with kind vets and technicians and friendly front-desk staff. Animal Kind helped my cat heal from a cyst caused by an incompetent, cheaper vet and is always aware of her specific health issues, including an allergy to the most common rabies vaccine. I know what it is like to lose a pet and the painful second-guessing that can happen when you feel a doctor could or should have done more, but I do not believe my cat would receive anything but the best care with the utmost competence and compassion at Animal Kind. They are professional, diligent, and worth the extra they may cost over some random vet in Park Slope. more

They will rip you off. 11/11/2009

I took my shih-tzu there when she was a puppy because she was losing all her hair. After spending $400 for "tests" because none of the vets knew what was wrong with her, and after being referred to a skin specialist for dogs (where I could possibly spend thousands of dollars), I decided to call the breeder. The breeder then told me that this was perfectly normal and most shih-tzu puppies shed their puppy coat. REALLY ANIMAL KIND? You didn't know that that's a NORMAL process? Either the vets are incompetent OR they scammed me for $400. Either scenario was enough for me to never go back there again. Cons: All they care about is money. more

Give In to Their BLACKMAIL? 9/13/2009

I completely AGREE. My cat freaks out completely when I have to crate her. She has nearly died the past two falls due due hyperthyroidism and an enlarged heart. The worst thing I could do for her is to freak her out and cause her heart to beat out of control. But Animal Kind is BLACKMAILING me into crating my cat and bringing her in to the office for more tests. When I said I'm not comfortable with that and that my cat has been doing great with just taking the Norvasc and the Tepazole pills and told them I didn't want her to freak out I was told they wouldn't give her the pills she needs to LIVE unless I bring her in. When I said, ""Let me get this straight: Either I do what you say or you are going to let my cat die by withholding her pills?"" The supposed ""doctor"" then replied, ""That's your choice, not mine."" Horrible ""doctors"". Pros: Nada Cons: Read on... more

See a Specialist 1/29/2009

AK's owner, Dr. Gibson, says he does echocardiograms and ultrasounds and orthopedic surgery. If your animal needs any of these, spend the extra money to see an actual specialist. I took my cat in for an echocardiogram because my regular vet suspected heart disease--my cat had a very fast heart rate. Dr. Gibson said that he didn't heart a heart murmur, and in fact my cat's heart rate was quite low, not high. I asked him--twice, just to be clear--so if he doesn't have a heart murmur, he doesn't have heart disease? Dr. Gibson said yes, and an echo really wasn't called for, I could keep my money. I was really, really excited becaue I *felt* there was something wrong and I really wanted to hear that there wasn't. So I believed him and took my cat home. \r Two days later, my cat went into congestive heart failure and died. He died, despite me rushing to the vet in the middle of the night with my gasping cat. His heart rate was probably low two days earlier because he was already going into failure. And guess what? The most common type of feline heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, may or may not (often not) come with a heart murmur. So he didn't know what he was talking about, I believed him, and then my cat basically drown from the fluid build up in his lungs. \r If your vet suspects heart disease, see a cardiologist, not a regular vet or an internist who says they can do echos. If they suspect major abdominal disease, see an internist, not a regular vet who says they do ultrasounds. If there is a major orthopedic problem, see a board certified surgeon. You will only ever regret NOT seeing one. Pros: Some of the vets there are kind and friendly. Cons: They don't refer to specialists when they should. more
