Carribean Attempt! 10/9/2002

Instead of classifying the cuisine as Carribean, I would opt for such labels as Faux Caribe, or simply, Black Beans and Things. Being a newcomer to Nashville, I wanted to feast on the plethora of dishes from various restaurants... beyond the meat and three. I was ecstatic to know that there was a ""Carribean"" restaurant that, I thought, would have many of my favorites to satisfy my insatiable Carribean cravings, like ""Moors y Cristianos"", Fricaseed Chicken, Ackee and Salt Fish, and Steamed Callaloo with, you guessed it, Salt Fish. To my dismay, the menu fell short. Short of Champagne Cola, the inevitable ""Ting"", and Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee that complement the true flavor and zest of, what is supposed to be, the ultimate Carribean feast. I guess Calypso Cafe serves a purpose in Nashville, an alternative to commercial eateries with only a hint of Carribean flavor, in the restaurant decor. more
