Great Sushi. Down one star since they don't deliver. Try the Phoenix Roll, it's delicious! more

This was my first time ordering from here since my regular place was not opened late on Sunday nights. I ordered the same things, Pad Thai, Wonton Soup, White Rice. The Pad Thai was equal to my usual place-nice size shrimp and chicken white meat. The Wonton soup was more generous, but a little watered down. The wontons were big and very good. The White Rice was a little too sticky for me. If I had to order again from here which I will probably do on Sunday nights, I would just get the Pad Thai. more

They don't even value their customers 3/16/2012

They don't even value their customers, that they setup a stupid groupon discount to trick their customers. The Groupon discount said to be buy $45 to get up to $94 value, but the limited you to have only one Starter, two entries, one desert for two people. I mean this is for two people, one starter, one desert? Of course not enough, right? So you started to order something else thinking that you have up to $94 value to spend. But turning out that you are trapped in the ridiculous rule and end up paying a total amount (Groupon Price + Difference) that is more than the $94 value. I'm sick of company like this to make you feel stupid of honoring your purchase. more

Horrible Service, Below Average Fod, Just BAD, BAD, BAD 11/8/2009

Went there for a birthday for a friend. We asked specifically for a vegetarian dish, they brough a dish with a fish sauce. When asked if we could exchange it for a vegetarian dish, the waitress refused and said she would have to charge us. We had to talk the manager. Moreover, the food was bland and uninspiring. But the next thing the waitress did, really pissed us off. We told the waitress it was our friend's birthday and if she could brink a small cake with candle. She said ofcourse. We ordered dessert of ourse as well and waited and waited but no birthday came ever came for our friend, while another party next to us got a birthday cake for their friend. After the dinner was over we asked the waitress what happened, she had the audacity to tell us that she got ""busy"". Why would she lie to us and tell she could do it? At least have the common courtesy to come back and tell us that she cant honor our request, instead of being misleading. We will definitely not be coming back here. Pros: Nice Decor but that is it! Cons: Too many to list. more

Yikes 10/5/2009

This is the first restaurant I've ever been moved to write about because it was SO TERRIBLE!!!! My boyfriend and I, who are frequent restaurant goers, were in the mood for good sushi, and decided to go to this establishment as we had been there one time previously for an appetizer and a drink. We ordered two rolls, eel and cucumber and the ""typhoon"" roll (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and sweet egg), and the sashimi deluxe dinner. The service was very good, but when the meal arrived, we were surprised by the arrangement, the color of the fish, and the preparation of all items. First off, all of the sashimi had a grayish hue, typically indicative of old or frozen fish. Then, the taste and texture were disgusting...chewy, bland, and all of the pieces looked like they had been cut by a dull butter knife, with outer layers of skin left on. To make the experience even more appetizing, was the martini glass full of seaweed salad stuck to the sashimi plate by an enormous glob of wasabi. The ""typhoon roll"" was missing the yellowtail, the rice was hard, and the eel roll looked like it had been created by a first grader. But our favorite point of the service, was the apparently drunk sushi chef intermittently smoking cigarettes in front of the restaurant, in full view of all paying customers. Expensive, gross, and visually unappealing. We will never return. Pros: Nice wait staff Cons: oh so many more

Good Sushi, Great Location 12/13/2008

Great sushi, Very nice interior(has a wall sized water fall/trickle. \r I recommend the yam roll(dont remember what it was called) it is warm and a little crunchy. VERY GOOD.\r A little bit dressy, anything but a t-shirt is fine though. \r Nice waiters always at hand to refill your water.\r Great Value. Pros: Great ambience, location and food also a good value Cons: none really more

This is a Great spot! 3/28/2008

I moved to Boston for almost a year and I felt in love with this Typhoon for its sushi and its cozzy atmosphere. I've been dining around to experience other sushi places, but nothing out there convinced me to keep coming back, but Typhoon. Very attentive service, food come out fast, great wine list (they offer all wines by the glass and bottles which is great for everyday dining out), exotic drinks from the bar are unique too. I heard Typhoon has been there for over 10 years and has been improving and improving... that's the only way to stay in business. Unlike some places I've been to, same old same old, and sometimes they just shut down and disappeared, like Typhoon's Korean neighbor, Jae's or 711 Underground Sushi, whatever,.. they just disappeared. Pros: Almost everything about a unique restaurant! Cons: A little small for weekend. more

pick another sushi restaurant 2/17/2008

went with a small group, drinks were great and sushi was fine but we saw a rodent scamper by us in the front dining room! we all got a little scared (obviously) and the people there acted like it was not a big deal! they said they see them all the time. we had to ASK for a discount off of our bill and they only offered 10% off for our troubles. I would NEVER go back to this restaurant....health inspectors beware. more

Awesome sushi at a great price 1/21/2008

My wife and I have visited 4 local susheries and this one is by far our favorite. We typically get there before 8 so there's never a crowd and we have yet to wait for seating. They have a great variety of normal as well as ""special"" rolls and the B-52 and Dragon Rolls are our favorites. I also tried a shrimp and coconut soup this past trip that turned out to be quite delicious. It was surprisingly complex in flavor and ran the gamut from hot to sweet. Definitely delicious and something I'm going to try again. We normally get service that borders on ""odd"" but as long as you are not in a rush it's easy to laugh off service that takes a little longer from a dude with a Philly accent or whatever their specific oddity may be. It's a high traffic locale and it surprises me that they don't charge more but drinking moderately you can get out of there for under $75 for two people and that's my kind of place! Pros: Food, atmosphere, price Cons: Service a tad slow more

Cold food, rude service, not recommended for wine lovers 11/27/2007

Visited Typhoon last Saturday in a party of 8. Everything started ok but things went downhill rapidly with the arrival of the entrees, all of them were cold. When they came back from a trip to the microwave one by one over a 15 minute period the food was hot but the plates were freezing meaning that the food had gone cold before it was eaten. The wine ?list? was quite disastrous, we decided to order another bottle of our first bottle of wine but it was unavailable as was our second, third and fourth choices so we stayed on water. You would think that nothing could possibly go wrong with that but there was a young waitress going round with a pitcher topping up diners drinking water with the worst attitude imaginable, the water was practically being thrown at everybody. She also had a very rude reaction to being asked a quite civil question about the check which we had already requested from two other members of the staff. When the check finally arrived, about 15 minutes later, to our disgust there was a gratuity of 18% already added, if it had been discretionary it would have been 0%. When paying the check we complained to a senior member of staff but were merely paid lip service. A most unpleasant dining experience. Pros: It has a nice exit Cons: It has a nice entrance more

This sushi place is a great spot everytime I visit Boston. 8/22/2007

After living my college life for almost 7 years in Boston, Typhoon was one of my faves where my friends and I used to go wild with sake-bombs and kamekaze shots! These memories bring me back to Typhoon everytime I visit Boston. Of-course my friends aren't there with me anymore, but Typhoon's staff is always great, especially Teresa, the cutest, sweetest, hostess/bartender and my favorite server Fabio.\r \r I reccomend this place to those who are young, energetic, and outgoing. People who enjoy having a great meal with the nicest and educated servers in a cool and fancy atmosphere.\r \r For those who are rude, ""don't get out much"", or ""hang out with the wrong crowd"", or ""expect the best for your money""... don't come to Typhoon. Trust me, they don't need you. And you know who you are!\r \r Well, I hope you find my comment helpful. If you need to reach me, come to LA! Pros: Great sushi specials and many choices of Asian steaks that can't be found anywhere else. more

Good drinks, decent ambiance, okay food 8/20/2007

I've been here twice -. some items are pretty good, some are completely terrible - the waitstaff is not too good at advising you on what to order. They have some really interesting cocktails, including one that comes in a coconut shell (very good). Overall I would say this place is just okay. Also, it is completely not a good place for little kids - very cramped and tough to fit a high chair in there (the second time I was there I had my 15 month old neice with me). Pros: good cocktails, good location Cons: parking, good for a date more

Best spot in Boston 6/4/2007

We've been enjoy coming to this place in the past 5-6 years, and we're growing our love for it.\r \r My girlfriends and I were enjoying our meal in the back section of Typhoon with its delish food, sushi, and its exceptional service a few weeks ago as usual.\r \r Strangely I saw the previous comment of giving this outstanding place 1 star.. wow. So I read and realized we were there on the same night. This is what we witnessed. When we heard a rude customer, sitting behind us, literally yelled at our waiter of a dish not being served. So we paid attention. After a little bit, we knew the rude guy's friend had a special request, ""which could take a little more time to prepare his dish"", explained the poor waiter. But his friend, the rude and loud dude, got upset instead, yelling and cursing at the frustrated waiter and his manager.\r \r We talked to the management afterward and learned that they tried to explain why the dish came out late due to the special request, and not making everyone else wait (like 20 of them). Since the dude was just rude, they even waved the dish. Hey, that's decent to me.\r \r No, this guy went on and actually commented online? Life is tough, isn't it. For some, public manner and respecting others are not in their dictionary.\r \r For some of us, because having 10 credit cards in our wallet, we think we're rich and treat others like unkindly. But the reality is only the hard working people are the richest people. At least, in my opinion.\r \r For us, after such a distraction that night, we love this sushi place even more. Pros: Great sushi specials, and the steak dishes. Cons: If possible, reduce the rude-minority so others can enjoy their meals peacefully. more

Poor customer service spoils the tasty food 5/13/2007

I've been to Typhoon many times over the past several years and after a recent dining fiasco, I am forced to give this place a poor rating. Having to ask for your drink order four times over forty five minutes is annoying at the least but might be forgivable on a busy night - what can't be excused is forgetting to submit a fellow diner's order, trying to cover it up with an obvious lie and on top of that, not apologizing for the screw up. When my fellow diners and I ran into this situation recently, we were shocked at how obnoxious the management was after we complained, and the lengths to which they tried to excuse themselves! A simple ""hey, we're sorry it took an extra 20 minutes for your meal to come out"" could have saved the day, but alas, they took a very different and very offensive route. What a shame that the food and ambiance can't raise this place above the management's disrespect of their customers! Pros: Delicious dishes Cons: Poor customer service more

Pleasant surprise 2/10/2007

My girlfriend and I were originally going to go to PF Changs but didn't feel like waiting 2 hours and 45 minutes. Luckily for us, on the way to to PF's we saw Typhoon on Boylston. It's very similar to PF Chang's but with a little more authenticity and also had a sushi bar. Anyways, we were told there would be a 20 minute wait, so I left to park my car and by the time I had gotten back(5 minutes) my table had already been cleared. The waiter started off very slow but got better as the meal went on. The house fried rice is incredible! They menu is very extensive and they had a very nice beverage list as well. Also, the food is priced VERY fair!! Overall, I strongly recommend it(especially if you are going to PF Changs and there is a wait)! Very good food and very friendly staff! Pros: Food, staff were great Cons: parking more

Spicy scallop craving! 11/9/2006

I LOVE SPICY SCALLOP and Typhoon has the best spicy scallop in Boston! Whenever I have a craving for it, I just hop on a bus and I'm on my way. Try the fish salad too, it is divine. The waitstaff is also very attentive, but maybe that's just because I've never been there when it was busy. Pros: food more

good food, okay prices (pickup, not dine-in) 11/8/2006

I get pickup here every once in a while. They're one of the few places in the Back Bay that has a good selection of Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. I've had the sashimi and the pho. I would say the sashimi was above average but the pho was slightly disappointing (which may have had to do with getting it to go).\r \r All in all I would say it's good food but nothing to write home about. If I were paying and not my firm, I might think twice though - there are probably better alternatives. more

Excellent Cuisine and Service 8/4/2006

Typhoon is one of my favorite restaurants in the Boston area because of it's mix of good pan-Asian food, ambience and service. The sushi menu is great, with everything described in detail. You can order your own personal combination of items off the menu, or get one of their many sushi boat combos. The fusion food is also quite excellent, and they even have a vegetarian section of the menu. The ambience is great, and Typhoon's hours are an added bonus for those late-night cravings for sushi. The service is also excellent and the staff are particularly polite and helpful. It's usually best to make a reservation if you plan on eating after 8:00 on the weekends. Pros: Great service and food, later hours on weekends more

Noteworthy place to casually dine. 6/4/2006

By all means, the service was particularly sharp as good restaurants are. Droping forks and being mysteriously replaced to very pleasant waiters add to EXCELLENT service. The environment vibe is also very mellow, though it is very slow during lunch hours. NOTE: When I went, they were constructing a patio, so the front is a MESS. But other than that, it's a great place! Pros: inexpensive, tasteful chef, great service Cons: American-Chinese food more

nice people 1/2/2006

Typhoon's sushi and Koshima's Sushi (Japan) has very similar characteristics. So I approached the sushi Chef, and found out that he was brought up and trained in Japan for 24 years. He has been working in Japan ever since he graduated as a Certified Sushi Chef (who are one the very respected people in Japan). In my opinion, Typhoon has a very unique menu and a quality line of staff. Not mentioning that the owner is an M.I.T graduated architect with a M.A.R.C.H. degree (master). Pros: valet parking, patio, inexpensive more
