I was not quite sure after some of the bad reviews but my sister who moved with Gentle Movers many times in the past highly recommended to go with them.. I am very satisfied with them. I worked with one of the agents from this realty company when I was looking for an apartment about a year ago. The agent was helpful, but the apartments that he had available were laughably small, especially in my price range. I saw much nicer, much larger apartments when I used other brokers or agents.

After reading about Jacob Realty's numerous glowing reviews I was convinced that I needed to seek them out for help with buying our first place. Our agent Debbie was gracious and knowledgeable, and not pushy or intimidating. It's a hard process purchasing an place to live, let alone in Boston, but Debbie guided us the entire way. She gave us such personalized service that we felt like we were his only clients (or at least his #1 clients)! With every step he was patient and always willing to talk things out, no matter how mundane the question. She thrives on negotiating on his client's behalf, and we've benefited from his savviness in this regard. She found a place for my husband and I in Cambridge in Harvard Square right near India L A Burdick Chocolates and Cafe of India on Brattle Street. I would not hesitate to recommend her to my closest friends.

Both times my husband and I were looking for an apartment we went to Gibson Domain Domain. Both times, they showed us apartments (and quite a few at that) that met both our price requirements and must-haves. I will go back to them the next time we look for an apartment.

Not your typical thrift shop!
Don't confuse this store with the usual Thrift Store atmosphere and/or quality. The Closet Upstairs is all vintage. Although little walking space exists amongst the cramped racks of clothes, it is a definite stop for any type of Halloween custom shopping. You can find wigs, boas, poodle skirts, vinyl pants, blue suede shoes, flapper dresses etc.... I've never found anything to add to my every day wardrobe but it has been essential for Halloween. I have seen an occassional tea length dress appropriate for dining out though. Cool little shop with a lot to choose from!
Pros: Eclectic, retro, vintage, can be pricey but some sales exist

I guess what it comes down to is the idea that at least around here, all of the realtors have the same apartments for rent for the most part and you're just looking for a friendly agent who doesn't try to show you a bunch of "just a little more" expensive apartments to up your fee. Ana Michelon was a great agent, very friendly, easy to talk to and showed me some great apartments. She was easy to contact and kept in touch with me. I was pleased with her service.

I have mixed feelings about this realty company. One on hand, I was able to live right in Fenway for $535 a month as a tenant at will (month to month), but on the other hand, this company is devious and not to be trusted. For shared apartments, if someone moves out, they must replace themselves with a new roomate: the new roomate gives the old roomate, "first and last's month rent" which is actually going straight to the old roomate to pay them back for what they originally paid to get in. So, technically, the realty company is not involved at all. To top it off, when I eventually moved out and replaced myself, an intern was working at Joy Realty and he had no idea what he was doing. He calculated what the new roomate owed me and it was all wrong. I recommend drawing up your own contracts if you end up renting with this company.
Another downside is that they are able to raise rent whenever they like, since there are no actual lease terms. My building was also broken into on a number of occasions. The buildings they rent aren't the safest, but if you're looking to live in the middle of everything for less, give it a try!

I am torn on my rating for South End Realty Group. As they specialize in the South End (at least that's what I'm assuming from their name), they had so many apartments to look at. However, I had a lot of questions for our realtor that he couldn't answer. Things that he should have known such as "are heat and hot water included." Really basic things. That said, you can't beat the selection.
