Where do celebrity chef's like Lydia Shire and the late Julia Child go when they need exotic ingredients for their dishes? The answer is the Savenor's Market in Beacon Hill. Here you can find the most ecclectic mix of hard-to-find materials that are every cooks dreams. Some ingredients can cost a bundle- black truffle oil per se. The most interesting finds are the strange meats this market has to offer-- including bear, lion, and alligator. If you're in the mood for something different for dinner, definitely stop by and see what new you can find!

I love Whole Foods...Always have. I lived in Brookline and shopped at the one in Brighton. Now I live in the South End and walk to the one near Symphony.
Maybe my affection emanates from the deep seated feeling that what I have been eating at other places will be removed in my arteries one day. Then again, perhaps it is the array of healthy food that intrigues me. Even the chips seem healthy(I wish).
There is something also to be said for a company that cares about their employees, offers good service and has a selection of product that won't kill you....even if you have to pay a little more" Friend Quick Search

This place is not really a consumer store but if you visit thier office you can get sample of thier chocolate. Switzerland is known to have some of the best chocolate in the world place as does this company. They are easily one of the best chocolate stores in the Boston area. I recommend them highly.

I work in Dorchester...It is not exactly the culinary mecca of the world. However, we do have Lambert's for lunch.
You have to love a place that has one paper sign saying "when you walk through the doors, you are family" They also seem to mean it. First, the salad bar has about 50 items and about 15 dressings, and it is all fresh. Their sandwiches are varied and huge. They must have 8 kinds of turkey. They also feature 8 hot soups by Kettle Cuisine.
Sure, the financial district may have choice, but we have Lambert's

I have discovered that there is a good reason why they win the Chowder cook off every single year in Newport. This is some good stuff. You can get all sorts of goodies from the sea.Their scallops are HUGE. I was impressed. Clams and mussels you get, too (and together in a seafood platter dinner). Steak and shrimp are fabulous, too.
This is something to watch out for when ordering the wine. There are actually half bottles. Dessert along with the wines, are the only things on the menu which don't include some sort of seafood product. It is an upscale outstanding place to go eat.

Zafferano is an Italian restaurant located in the unpretentious neighborhood of East Boston. It may be a bit out of the way, but this restaurant serves excellent Italian food comparable to the more popular North End of Boston without all the hassle of dealing with the tourists. They have excellent pasta and meat dishes that are well priced as well as a nice selection of homemade desserts. The service is super friendly and efficient as well. Definitely worth the trip to this underrated restaurant.

I was really surprised when I found this place, since it's hidden away downstairs from where the Hold Everything used to be (next door to So Good Jewelry). They have a pretty good selection of assorted Japanese items (they even carry a bit of fresh produce and baked goods). The prices are OK. If you're looking for Japanese ingredients, there's a pretty good chance they'll have something for you. My guess is that they cater mainly to the Berklee students. The store also has a blog that's in Japanese.
