Great ambience and even better food! 10/7/2009

My friends and I were looking for a new brunch spot to round out the weekend. Loved it. There was a live band, unlimited bellini's, yummy healthy portions of food, quick service and good fun - all for under $20. We stayed for the whole brunch span loading up on bellini's and chatting away with our neighboring tables. Everyone seemed to know each other and that gave it a good feel. I've been there twice since then and plan to go again this weekend. See you there! Pros: Great service and attentive staff more

Best Grilled Calamari Salad in NYC!! 10/21/2008

I really could have their Grilled Calamari Salad every day and never be tired of it! It is excellent!!! more

Superbly satisfying 11/30/2007

I've been going to Scopello for years. It's a cool spot. The food is always good and the ambiance easygoing and welcoming. Great place to unwind after work and catch up with friends. Pros: Delicious fine Italian food, lively bar, knowledgeable friendly waiters Cons: not enough waiters on busy nights more

A Treasure 11/27/2007

I was at Scopello a few days ago for a dinner party and what a gorgeous place! The food was spectacular! We had grilled calamari, octopus with vegetables, and some short fresh pasta with mushrooms and sausage that was truly divine! The ravioli was some of the best I have ever tasted and after trying the organic lamb and the fish that were served, I knew I had found a new favorite. You are a treasure! I will be back. Pros: Great food, decor, music and service more

Nothing exceptional if you are used to eating proper fresh Italian cousine 11/2/2007

I wanted to experience this restaurant because of the positive reviews I saw on the internet, however, I was quite disappointed after eating there. For starters many dishes are not authentic Sicilian (as I am from Palermo) many of them come with the italian name and with a mixture of Italian ingridients, however, added by the owner's own imaginative touches which some may argue are bizarre. The basic bread is tasteless and the olive oil used of cheap quality. Again, if you think this is proper Sicilian cousine then you have all a lot too learn...I did not get a feeling of experiencing Scopello as the music theme was ''loungy'' and wanna-be trendy so it absorbed some of the decor more ''paesano'' feel...For all of you out there, here this is NYC you can do much better! Pros: Smily staff Cons: Overall high prices for average food quality nicely dressed more

Charming and Authenitic 7/6/2007

I've eaten at Scopello quite a few times now, and I have to say that they're probably the best Italian restaurant I've been to. It's interesting to see the changing specials-- to get a little taste of Sicily in many new dishes. The food is incredibly flavorful, and there is such a large variety, that everyone can find something they will love. They are vegetarian friendly as well, which is wonderful. The owner and manager are both friendly, and very charming with their Sicilian accents. One thing that strikes me is that there are so many regular customers-- the crew at Scopello know them by name, know what they drink, and know what they order. What's even better, though, is that those who are not yet regulars get treated as though they are or soon will be. The whole atmosphere of the place makes it seem like a close-knit family, and it's just an overall great experience to dine there. Pros: Service, ambience, food more

great drink specials 7/5/2007

the drink specials at the bar are all fabulous, try the guidaloca, which is alot like a caipirinha but with white wine. the daily specials are delicious and fairly priced. some other favorites include the breaded chicken breast, the pesto gnocchi and the beef carpaccio. the desserts are good and the espresso is the way it should be, which is unusual in a city where they can't seem to make the espresso properly. one of the best restuarants in fort greene by far. Pros: wine, dessert, mojitos Cons: the food's a little bit too salty sometimes more

good food and service 7/5/2007

i live in fort greene and i regularly dine at scopello. i love the food and the people are nice. they know about food and wine. its a nice authentic relaxed place. the presentation of the food is always great and the prices are fair. the menu changes seasonally so i never get bored of the food, even after 5 years that i have been dining there. i disagree with citrus-y criticism. i really love scopello. Pros: food, service, value Cons: bam days its too busy more

Top Italian Quality and Great Value With Flair and Without Attitude 7/5/2007

If you haven't been to Scopello yet, do yourself a favor and try it soon. Don't save it for a special occasion: everything is right, including the prices, to have a truly enjoyable experience now and then, or more. I've been eating regularly at Scopello since it opened some four years ago. This is Italian food with a twist or two which really works. And I should know, being Italian myself. The place has great and relaxed atmosphere whereby you feel right at home. To begin, have one of the great carpaccios on the summer menu - - beef, octopus or tuna, they're all good, and so is the deliciously cytrusy arugula / artichoke / parmigiano salad. Follow with any of the day's special raviolis or other home made pasta dishes, and you won't be disappointed. Oh and the pesto gnocchi, please! If you are like me, though, you should not order the spaghetti without asking that they be truly ""al dente"", and mind you, the Carbonara sauce's a bit too salty. Entrees I really like include the lamb, tuna and chicken dishes, but everything else on the menu is deliciously prepared and attractively presented. Pair the food with one of the wines on the list and your experience will be complete. And don't forget to take time before or after dinner to enjoy the great atmoshere and lovely cocktails at this very popular bar. Pros: Food and wine selections Cons: can't think of one more

One of the best Italians anywhere 7/3/2007

I've been coming to Scopello for about two years. The food is always the best quality and their eggplant rolls and their filet mignon carpaccio are among my favorite antipasti in the whole of New York. Their pasta is consistently good and they have a wine list to satisfy even the pickiest connoisseurs palate. Another good thing is they give you a meal for your money. I'm a big guy so I like my plate full and at Scopello that is what you get. The hype about the celebrities is true too. I was at BAM for Sundance a couple of weeks ago and sat close to Steve Buscemi who was enjoying dinner there with a group of friends. If you are looking for one of the best places to eat in Brooklyn, Scopello is it. Pros: great Italian food, good music and service Cons: parking more

Best Mother's Day dinner yet 6/2/2007

My daughter and son-in-law took me for Mother's day. I do low carbs so no pasta but my meal turned out to be delicious anyway. My main course was marinated steak and steamed greens and it was excellent. The chicken my daughter ordered was also very good. Our server was nice and the restaurant was stylish and welcoming. I'll definitely be back. Pros: good food, nice service, stylish spot more

Really mediocre italian. 5/19/2007

Below average food from the tasteless bread to the average salad and average pasta. There must be a thousand italian restaurants better than this one. Pros: Ambience is nice. Cons: Food more

beautiful restaurant, great fresh pastas, people watching 4/30/2007

I have to agree with the best that I?ve heard and read about Scopello. My friends and I have been eating here for the past 3 years and have always enjoyed it. I like the way the menu changes seasonally, keeping it fresh and surprising. The homemade pastas are the best! The black ravioli with crabmeat is so deliciously decadent and the eggplant ravioli or butternut squash ravioli suit my veggie cravings just fine. You can really taste the Sicilian olives in the extra virgin olive oil they serve with the warm homemade bread that greets you at your table. I even like to watch the crowd change, from the really busy nights when you could rub elbows with someone like Cate Blanchett at the bar as Rosie O?Donnell and her galpals are saying good night in the dining room, to the warm slower nights when you don?t have to wait for a table and can kick back with your drink and your friends. It?s all good at Scopello. Highly recommended. Pros: real and fresh Italian food, real Italian owner, friendly staff Cons: parking not easy more

Delicious, fresh food, inviting spot 4/30/2007

delicious and inviting. food is always fresh and spices blend well in the pasta and fish dishes i usually order. good selection of regional wines too, and none too pricey. staff knows their food and everyone is pleasant, even funny. always fairly crowded when i've been. beautiful, easygoing spot. Recommended! Pros: great food, good waitstaff, beautiful decor Cons: understaffed more

Truly an Italian food experience 3/23/2007

Overall, I found this delightful restaurant to be the perfect place for a romantic prelude, dinner after watching a movie at BAM, or causal meal and drinks with friends. One might describe the style of service as ?authentic European village' where the food and wine selections are pleasing and tasteful and the atmosphere is eclectic, lively, and warm. more

Good food, horrendous service 3/10/2007

My husband and I went to Scopello for the first time tonight with another couple to celebrate their engagement. The service was a disaster from beginning to end. First, they refused to give us a table against the wall even though many were available ""in case they got a large party and had to push the tables together"". When we asked to discuss it with the owner, they relented. We then spent the whole evening flagging people down for basic items, i.e., water, pepper, wine. Craziest of all, they felt compelled to tell us that if we wished to order the chocolate souffle, it would take 8 minutes (as though that were long). We did order it and it took nearly 20 minutes to come to us. The only thing we didn't have to ask and wait for was the bill. Having said all that about the service, the food was quite good especially for the modest prices. Unfortunately, the horrible service overshadowed the positive qualities of the restaurant. There are too many places in the Ft. Greene/Boerum Hill area to waste one's time here. Very disappointing. more

Delicious Italian 2/16/2007

Scopello is a wonderful neighborhood favorite. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the ambiance is warm and inviting. Most importantly, the food is great! They make delicious homemade pastas, fresh salads, seasonal specials, and a good Italian wine list. Pros: Fresh pasta, ambiance, service. more
