This place is the absolute worst. I went there to get a flat tire fixed. I had already put the spare tire on and told the "service guy" that the flat tire was in the trunk. After 4 hours later I went back, and to my amazement they replaced my perfectly good spare tire instead of the flat tire that was still in my trunk. Then they try to tell me I never told them that the flat was in the trunk. So after another 1 hour of waiting they finally fixed the problem, you would think you would get a discount or at least an apology.........You would be wrong more

I took my cars to PEP BOYS for the New York State Inspection. They do a thorough inspection, which usually results the replacement of shocks, exhaust system, or tires. I don't think airliners receive such a comprehensive inspection. I have since bought my own tools and the vehicle shop manuals, and figured out how to save $80 an hour on labor. They're always expensive, and much of the merchandise they sell is Made in China junk. (If you want tools that actually do the job, or a jackstand that won't kill you, buy Made in USA. China makes good replica tools that break in the middle of a job, leaving you S.O.L.)\r I believe the employees are pressured by the Mafia Pep Boys to take the vehicles apart and find any problems not even related to the reason the car was brought in. It's a poor reflection on the professional mechanics and technicians out there that actually do a good job. more

The Pep Boys store on 4th Ave. has a lot of car stuff, I mean a lot of car stuff!!! Way better, way more car stuff than the Strauss store on 4th Ave, which is a mere cubby hole in comparison. Don't waste a minute at the Strauss store on 4th Ave, I did twice and just after buying something there, I went into the Staples on 4th Ave and discovered the Pep Boys store right next door. They have a very good assortment of car maintenance goods at okay prices. I mean just the variety of squeegees alone is excellent. Research everything before you buy.....drivers!! Alright the attitude from the clerks is lackadaisical but hey this is the Brooklyn pace,.. Yuppies!!! more

so i read many bad reviews but decided to go anyways because it was close. i called regarding an oil pressure light that turned on and also a tapping noise. i was told to bring it in right away as they had openings. i went in within 15 minutes and they said they would have it diagnosed in an hour. after an hour they said that the switch for the light needed to be fixed and it would cost about $300. i asked ""was that it ,a faulty switch?"" and told ""there might be a leak,"" they weren't sure. ""what about the tapping noise,"" ""they didn't know how to get it fixed."" so they pretty much didn't diagnose anything were just going to replace the switch and didn't know if there was a leak or kink. i told them i just wanted my car and they gave it to me without charge. that was the only thing they did professionally. most of the guys are from the caribbean and let me tell you they just stand around talking getting their hourly wage. please listen to these reviews this place is really bad. Pros: didn't charge me, nothing was done, just wasted two hrs Cons: nothing was accomplished and people are lazy more

This place is the worst. I brought my car there three times for the same noise and they never fixed it. In the mean time I paid over 1000 dollars in repairs. I even had to pay another mechanic to fix what they installed incorrectly. Now I had to go back to them because a part they replaced is defective and under warantee but they are charging me labor to reinstall the replacement for the broken part they put in. Plus they have had my car for three day. For a strut. Give me a break. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. more

I live walking distance from Pep Boys and have used them for the sake of convenience over the years. But now twice in a row they have returned my car to me with incorrect information about what they fixed. In one case they charged me for a part replacement and the dealer showed me it was still the old part. They are incredibly slow, I think b/c they want you to shop in their store while you wait. I ordered new tires and when they came in, I was forced to come back to the store in person and pay just to have them installed--they wouldn't even take my card over the phone. Just terrible service and don't deserve continued support. more

The 2 people who wrote good reviews about this place must work there. I'm not sure who this "service advisor" that they BOTH talk about is, but I sure didn't have one. I only spoke to the cashiers at the service department, and I've never seen people move so slowly, or care less about their jobs. I needed one tire checked and my oil changed. There were only two cars in front of me. 2.5 hrs later they called me to the desk to try to sell me new tires. I declined. They said to give them a min and my car would be ready. An HOUR later I went to the desk to find out what could have happened. Out of 3 employees on computers and chatting with each other only one was actually helping customers (VERY slowly). When I finally got my car back I found that the tire I needed to have checked (that they said they found no leek in) had only been inflated to 20 PSI instead of the recommended 44 PSI. The service at Pep Boys was great! The service was great, and the adviser was very understanding and helpful, and my car was fixed without err. Although the price was high, the service was top rate, and I have no complaints. I didn't have any other issues with my car, like the previous reviewers, some cars do go in with a lot of problems that the owners neglect in order to save money. But the guys at Pep Boys were great, and they Know their jobs and beyond its' confines. I recommend this store wholeheartedly. more

This place is like you're at a slug race and the slugs are all communist. People really move like they don't have a care in the world. Do your best to go to a mom and pop store where there is incentive to be be efficient and do good quality. I live nearby is the reason I came probably wont come back again for service. more

this place is terrible. the people don't care about your time or the quality of your service. they will make you wait for hours and quality is suspect. I arrived 9am sharp (it opens at 9) but it took 3 hours to get a patch on my tire and i was the first in line. Really unbelievable. Do not come here unless you have no job or don't go to school and you have many hours to wait for bad care and service. Probably best to leave brooklyn for service. I had a very similar situation happen to the one described in the message posted. I went to Pep Boys because the air in my tires was low. It took them 3.5 hours, despite the fact that there were no other vehicles waiting, for them to 'fix' the tires and replace a punctured spare. 24 hours after leaving Pep Boys my car failed to turn on, the engine was giving me issues, and the head lights were no longer working--1 had totally blown out. There is seriously something going on with their service department! more

I decided to mull over their recommendations and drove the car back home 0.8 miles away and parked it. \r \r I returned the following week to just have the tires changed. Again, there were no specific issues with driving the car. When leaving the Pep Boys lot after ONLY having the tires changed, the check engine light came on and the engine started sounding differently. I literally drove 0.3 miles after leaving Pep Boys. \r \r In total, I drove 1.9 miles between the time of the Pep Boys assessment and the time the engine light came on WITHOUT HAVING ANY PREVIOUS ISSUES with driving the car. Pep Boys stated that it as a complete coincidence that my engine light came on.\r \r (All distances were calculated according to Google Maps.) more
