Best

This place was great. We visited this place last week and it was fun together with my family. The kids were pretty much enjoying watching the show. Definitely we will be back here...

Worst

If you only have limited time to visit the Museum Campus, I would make the Shedd the third stop. The Amazon Rising exhibit is quite nice, but this museum isn't as interesting as ...

The Shed aquarium is one of the most popular in the country and one of the largest indoor aquariums in the world. The Caribbean Reef , is Shedd’s award winning 90,000 gallon circular habitat where you can see green turtles, sharks etc. Amazon Rising show cases the amazon basin where you can get a glimpse of the anaconda and piranhas. The wild reef exhibit with colorful corals is also quite interesting. more

Exciting Place 6/4/2006

The shed aquariam is an awesome place. You will find every type of fish here. It is pretty interesting. It is a great place to take the kids. They will surely enjoy themselves. However, you cannot spend too long here. It does get kind of boring after looking at fishes all day. I found the dolphins and whales to be the best site. The fee for admission is pretty reasonable. I find it not to be too pricey or cheap. I would suggest everyone to go here. It can be prety exciting and fun. more

Dolphins 5/27/2006

The Shed Aquarium has a great indoor dolphin show. If you sit in the front then you can get splashed, so be careful for that. It costs to get in for this, but it is worth it. They also have this huge fish tank in front that you get to see for free and every once in a while you can find divers get in it and feed the fish. There are all types of fish including sharks right in front of you. It's pretty cool for being free. more

My All-Time Favorite Attraction in Chicago 5/23/2006

I have loved the Shedd Aquarium ever since I was a little kid. Back then I was fascinated with sharks. When you walk into the Shedd and step up to the giant corral reef aquarium that is the center-piece of the original aquarium, it's truly like being underwater. The feeding time is the best time, when you get to see the person in the scuba gear swimming around in the tank feeding the fish. Yeah, it's cool looking for the sharks, but look in the ree for the moray eels as well. In recent years the Aquarium has expanded. They have created an entire enclosure for dolphins and beluga whales that is truly one of the most beautiful exhibits I have seen outside of Sea World. This exhibit, sitting right on Lake Michigan and designed to look like the water tanks go right into the Lake, is simply gorgeous. The beluga whales are beautiful to watch. I believe one of them just had a baby not very long ago. White and graceful, you can watch them in the tank from above or take a trip down below and watch them under water. It looks like they are peeking right back and you and entertaining you as you watch. The rest of the exhibits are great as well. My love for this place has never died and I wish I could get back there more often than I do. more

Cute little fish and man eating sharks - they have it all! 5/18/2006

I recently went back to visit my old friend, the Shedd Aquarium. It was a great time. It may be getting very expensive, but it's worth it. I love fish and this is one of the best environments in which to see them. The facility is clean, beautiful and they take good care of the creatures. They also have a really nice cafeteria and I love the dolphin shows. more

Fishies 5/18/2006

This is a fun place to go to, especially if you have young children. They have all sorts of fishes here in every size and color. Pretty cool place! They also have many shows here which are fun to watch. The building is huge and designed real nicely. It doesn't cost too much to get in..and they always have some specials or discount days going on. Basically, its a cool place to go to to see and learn new things! more

Shedd Aquarium 5/3/2006

This is a great place to bring the kids and show them what they can't see naturally here since we are not a coastal state. My girls get a real kick out of the seahorses and the tiny tiny jellyfish. We spend an entire day when we go and we take the time to really watch the sealife, not just a quick glance as we are walking by. This is a Chicago favorite! more

Shedd Aquarium 4/8/2006

The Shedd Aquarium is a top notch aquarium located in the heart of Chicago's museum district. The aquarium has a wonderful variety of marine life divided up by the animals native geographic region. Additionally, there are some wonderful shows featuring some of the animals. The set up of the aquarium allows the visitor to get up close to the animal, which adds to the experience. It is often very busy, so be sure to go during the week. more

fishy! 4/4/2006

I love spending a day at the aquarium. The price is a bit high, but I think it is well worth it! The all access pass is the way to go (if you can afford it) because you have access to everything the aquarium has to offer. The oceanarium has dolphins, beluga whales and otters to watch. The Amazon Rising area is very educational and neat to see the rising and falling waters. And my new favorite is the Shark Reef (only a couple years old) which has sting rays, jelly fish and of course sharks to view and watch. It is a very beautiful aquarium that overlooks Lake Michigan. more

Pricey but worth it! 4/3/2006

The Shedd Aquarium is one of the greatest aquariums I have ever visited. The building is magnificent - a true temple to the natural world. There are two admittance rates: one that allows access to just the fish and one that allows access to more. If you're short on time, the fish will keep you plenty busy, but to see everything is quite worth it. Go very early to miss the lines - they can be quite long during the day. If you're going many places, it's worth looking into the Chicago Pass - this is on it. The Shedd does offer a student ID rate. more

Beautiful museum 3/26/2006

What a beautiful place to observe marine life. They have a dolphin show that is less exciting than the one at Brookfield Zoo, but more educational. If you live in Chicago you must visit this place a few times to get a real taste of what they have to offer. You will be able to witness every imaginable sea creature. more

So many different things! 3/26/2006

This aquarium was really nice. It was full of so much variety - from dolphins, penguins, poisonous frogs, coral reef, tropical fish, local fish, and so much more. There was something there for everyone! I walked around and looked at everything the exibit had to offer and I continued to be fascinated by the things I saw and learned about these amazing aquatic animals! I strongly recommend this museum to anyone who has a slight interest in aquatic animals! more

Shedd Aquarium - I like the fish here 3/19/2006

The Shedd Aquarium has been around since 1929, and it is always fun to check out the sea creatures here. The museum enjoys a superb lakefront location. The central tank has periodical feeding times which are enjoyable. The addition to the building features the Oceanarium and the popular beluga whales. more

Shedd Aquarium 3/19/2006

Located on the Museum Campus with it's stunning view of the skyline lies this great aquarium and oceanarium. They feature a dolphin show , buluga whales, sharks and every variety of sea life imaginable. There is marine life on display from all over the globe. This is another museum that I don't reccomend trying to see it all in one day. Take your time, enjoy it and go back again. more

Good.. but I've seen better... 3/14/2006

I love the Aquarium, but I perfer some of the ones in Seattle and Los Angeles. This Aquarium is worth the extra fee to see the dolphins. They also have a lot of cool events (like the Jazz at the Shedd a year or so again). It IS the best out of all the Chicago museums though in my opinion. It can be kind of a pain to get to through public transportation and traffic in the parking lots are a bit crazy in the summer. more

Great Aquarium 3/12/2006

I've been to the Shedd Aquarium several times, and I always enjoy it. The displays are really interesting, and there's always something new to see. I really like the dolphin show, and watching all the fish and mammals (especially the sea otters!). Make sure you have plenty of time when you visit this aquarium - there's a lot of see and you won't want to miss any of it. more

Aquarium 2/28/2006

I think the Shedd Aquarium is perhaps one of the best museums in Chicago. It is a great place for both adults and children. I go here every summer with my kids and they always enjoy seeing all the different water animals. I usually opt for a day when they are showing a live show as well; those are not only lots of fun, but they are very informative as well. It is a great place to spend an afternoon because it is fun and educational. It is also very inexpensive and a fun activity to do with the kids. more

A Swimmingly Good Time 2/4/2006

The Shedd Aquarium, a part of Chicago's museum campus of internationally-renowned institutions, is a sight not to be missed. Though it draws a ton of tourists during all seasons, you see a significant number of locals with annual memberships coming to check in on their favorite flounder. The viewing tanks are large, plentiful, and well-maintained. The Pacific Northwest habitat for the dolphin show is beautiful, and the ground floor exhibit on coral reefs is one of the best exhibits I've ever seen at an aquarium. I still think the National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD has this fish haven beat, but it's only by a fin. more

First Class Public Aquarium 2/4/2006

The Shedd on Chicago's Museum Campus is a wonderful family museum. The have numerous halls of smaller aquariums grouped by world region, all arranged in a hub around a beautiful, huge round walk-around aquarium. The special exhibits (currently an amazon exhibit, along with a coral reef) are breath-taking and very interesting. The coral reef even features a room where the walls, ceiling and floors are all connected aquariums. Fish below and fish above. Amazing! more

Aquarium For The Whole Family 11/30/2005

Another world class musuem in Chicago. I am a fish person and there are plenty to see from salt and fresh water. They also have a center aquarium in the middle of the musuem where there are sharks, turtles and all different other types of fish and every few hours there is a diver who feeds these fish. it's very educational for kids and adults alike. The best is their pacific dolphins/baluga whale exhibit. This is a must see for you and your children. more
