Michelin star-speakeasy 1/12/2010

I ate here last summer and had an incredible house-made ravioli. The baby beet salad was amazing. Great quality, but maybe not the mind-bending experience that Michelin star led me to imagine. more

Quality Food, with Room for Improvement 11/22/2008

Last night I visited Dressler with a friend of mine, forgetting that I had actually already been there a few years ago. Pros: Food, Drinks Cons: Ok wine menu, a bit pricey. more

Outstanding service, stylish atmosphere and excellent food 11/11/2008

My wife and I love this place. The staff is very attentive, the atmosphere is very stylish and chic and the food is outstanding. My only problem with the place is that it's somewhat hard to get to by train. Pros: Service, Ambiance, Food Cons: Location more

lovely restaurant 10/26/2008

This is a lovely date restaurant. The interior is cozy, warm and inviting, just how you want it when you want to enjoy the company of a special someone. Decent selection of wines by the glass, which I always consider important. The last time we went there, it was a warm evening and we had to wait about 10 minutes. The food is all very good, with the appetizers perhaps a bit more memorable. Just remember -- a safe bet for a date restaurant, you will have fun and make a good impression! Pros: food, service more

Good but not great 5/22/2008

Came here for my husband's birthday and called ahead to make reservation and let them know it's a birthday dinner (hint, hint). They not only didn't put a candle in dessert, our waitress didn't put two-and-two together when he mentioned to her it was his birthday. Tsk. In any case, the food was very tasty - the raviolini was absolute perfection - Spring on a plate! The hangar steak, however, was charred black (we ordered it medium) and the seasonal black sea bass was tiny for the $32 it cost. The bread pudding was just ok, it would have been disappointing if it wasn't for the scotch sauce. We expected a little bit more for the money, especially in Brooklyn. Pros: good food, nice atmosphere, beautiful space Cons: overpriced, not enough attention to preparation, no bday surprise more

Great Food 5/14/2008

We went on a Saturday night without reservations, recommend making reservations. Our party of four spent a few moments at the bar, it was lively and we didn't mind. Once we were seated, we ordered appetizers to start. The presentation was creative and the food tasted amazing. My main dish was very good, everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes and we promised we would go again. Pros: FOOD!!!! Cons: Not in Manhattan more

Excellent restaurant - best in Williamsburg 12/2/2007

My wife and I have been to Dressler four or five time and have consistently received very good service and excellent food. It is a bit pricey for Williamsburg, but that is the direction the neighborhood is moving and other restaurants are quickly catching up. The atmosphere is comfortably elegant, and, unlike some other reviewers, we never felt rushed or that the service was lacking. The food is hands down the best in Williamsburg, and probably the best we have had in Brooklyn. We highly recommend the restaurant. The one negative, which has been mentioned before, is that the dining room can get a bit loud, although not any more so than an equivalent Manhattan restaurant. This is a minor nit, however, and Dressler is our favorite neighborhood restaurant on the whole. Pros: Food, atmosphere, service Cons: Noise more

Dinner under the bridge 11/16/2007

A very appealing exterior in a hipster redoubt, a tastefully decorated interior, excellent meat and fish entrees, okay desserts, ample if overpriced (blame the euro?) wine list... why the two stars? As at least another reviewer has indicated, the rushed, spotty and on more than one occasion snotty service ruined what could have been a pleasant meal for me and my guests. Attracted by the food, I have returned several times, and found the waiting staff consistently... inconsistent at best. They offer reservations as late as 10PM, but if you linger past the staff bedtime, rest assured they will let you know in more ways than one. Another relatively minor peeve is the din in the room at rush hour: it makes conversations in a normal tone of voice impossible. Not very romantic, is it? more

Stop asking to take my plate..... 10/28/2007

We went to this restaurant based on a strong recommendation from a client who is a chef that tests recipes. The restaurant has been on our radar for well over a year and on this night we finally decided to give it try. Reservations were easy to make, but time options were limited. (we made the reservation that day, so it was understandable) Pros: intersting combination of food choices, excellently preparted, beautiful place Cons: they rushed us more

Delicious Scallops 10/15/2007

Went on a Friday evening before the crowds showed up and had an incredible meal. Scallops were perfectly sauteed and cooked to perfection. The monk fish wrapped in bacon was also fabulous, the bacon seemed almost a part of the monk fish - you can't tell where one begins and the other ends. We did not have room for dessert but ordered anyways, we ate it all!! Details are seriously their main focus, from the beautiful chandeliers to the ornate bar stools you're eyes would also have a feast. more

All around excellent!!! 7/2/2007

\r The decor is very cool, but in a not-so-obvious way. If you have an eye for detail, you will really appreciate the interior design of this place, especially the lighting fixtures and accessories.\r \r The food was excellent. I got the pea soup, scallop appetizer, and past with veal ragout appetizer. All were divine.\r \r I would definitely go back to this restaurant. more

Worth the trip to the Southside. 6/7/2007

Northside of Bedford beware....the Southside's got Dressler now. The food was very fresh and so good. We had a main meal of just apps. Noteworthy dishes are the artichoke salad, the raviolini with pea/fontina, and the onion rings. The presentation is lovely. Desserts were oh so good and different. Chocolate foam, peanut brittle, and peanut butter ice cream? Can't get better than that. more

Great meal and ambiance! 5/28/2007

Just had an amazing meal at Dressler last night with my husband, daughters and their friends. Since I love Dumonts, I was anxious to try this new spot. Had the beet salad which is amazing just as it is at Dumonts! Everyone loved their entrees...mine was the halibut which was delicious. Service was great and the restaurant is beautiful with great ironwork. Can't wait to have dinner there again! Jan from Maine Pros: Great food and ambiance. Cons: Other than the entree arriving a bit too fast, nothing! Loved it! more

Manhattan Food without the Manhattan Prices and Scene 4/27/2007

I took my friend here for her birthday dinner. From appetizers to dessert, we have to say we were very satisfied. All our plates were cleaned off. \r \r I didn't have a single problem with the service like the other reviews, in fact, we were always having our water glasses refilled, I must have said ""thank you"" more times than I can recall ever saying before in a restaurant. \r \r We went without reservations and got a table right away. I fear the day that Dressler becomes too popular and perhaps develops that overpriced, ""snooty"" attitude that Manhattan restaurants with lesser food seem to exude. I almost want to keep this place a secret but I think it already isn't, it's just that Manhattan monkeys can't be bothered to make the trip. They'd rather rub elbows in an overcrowded, overpriced, super-scene of stressed out beautiful people who wish everybody else was dead.\r \r I liked the decor and the prices were appropriate. The only complaint would be that the sound inside is a bit loud, but that's it! I'll go again for another nice occasion! more

Hooray? 3/15/2007

I've been here 5 or 6 times, once for dinner, all other times for brunch. I love that this place is here. Its beautiful, hip & romantic, the drinks are killin' (sadly you can only have one because they're terribly expensive), and the food is out-of-sight!! Brunch is comforting with many deliciously updated standard favorites, and some interesting & yummy additions that are bound to be Dressler classics. Dinner is of course fantastic. The orange juice is too small for the asking price so you'd be better off without. Unfortunately, as with the other Dumont-owned places, the waitstaff is horrible and clueless, which places a mega-damper on your meal. Aside from that its honestly a great place to drop alot of dough, impress the parents or in-laws who don't 'get' your neighborhood, or a have a romantic or celebratory dinner. Pros: romantic, great cocktail menu, no kids or screaming babies at brunch Cons: waitstaff is terrible, cocktails too expensive more

  • Dressler's interior is Gothic chic, with wrought iron-lined light boxes and a dazzling palazzo tiled floor. The restaurant, bolstered by critical praise (including a Michelin star), draws a heavy influx of curious Manhattanites and local foodies alike. With attentive service and a diverse menu that stars seasonal greenmarket vegetables at their finest, it's easy to understand why. Dishes include various seafood options--like diver scallops served with ground grits and bacon-wrapped monkfish--plus more traditional fare like roasted free-range chicken with Swiss chard and braised short ribs. Unfortunately, the relatively high prices, at least by Brooklyn standards, make Dressler more of special occasion place than a go-to spot.
