I still can't figure out the hype. I'm a huge fan of international cuisines ranging from Russian to Cambodian, but do not enjoy the food here. I don't know if it's Burmese food in...

Probably worth the wait. 6/13/2007

My good friend introduced me to Burma Superstar a couple of years ago. It was great then and it is still great today. I hate to wait in line for a restaurant...especially in this city (where it is not necessary), but Burma is one of the places that is probably worth waiting for. They were smart enough to buy the cafe across the street so that you can wait over there and have a cup of jo while you wait. :) As many have already said, the Samusa soup and Green Tea Leaf Salad are amazing. I could eat that salad every day. I love just about anything I eat there. The curried shrimp is great as well. If you have not been, be sure to get over there at some point. You may want to cab it as parking on Clement is about as much fun as pulling teeth. more

My favorite place in town 6/22/2006

The food, service, and atmosphere here are all aces. Although some might complain about the lines, show up for an early dinner (5-5:30pm) and you will have no problems getting a table immediately. I consistently go back to this place for the high quality of food and the affordable price (although if you throw in a couple lemon ginger beers it can get pricey). I've been here several times with big groups and I have tried most dishes: garlic eggplant is spicy and delicious, the samusa soup is UNBELIEVABLE, as is the rainbow salad, curry catfish, and just about everything else. You will probably leave without leftovers. more

One of my favorites! 4/13/2006

Sooooo good. I miss the days when it was a hidden gem though. Nowadays, there's always a line. It's well worth the wait though. Try the samusa soup (if you can't take spicy food though, maybe not). Also try the tea leaf salad. And the Burmese style fried rice. It's all great!!! more

Burma Super Star Restaurant 3/17/2006

this restaurant is so far one of the better burmese restaurants in SF. unfortunately there are only a handful to choose from. the dessert palludah is extremely disappointing. palludah is my favorite burmese dessert...actually, my favorite dessert above all...and burma super star does it no justice. more

lives up to the hype 3/16/2006

I finally tried this restaurant a few weeks ago, after hearing for years how good the food is. I was not disappointed! They don't take reservations, but you can leave your phone number and they'll call you when your table is ready. The wait wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be either. My absolute favorite dish of the night was definitely the tea leaf salad. Chicken curry was good too and the only thing I thought were so so were the samusas. Nice portion sizes and presentation.. The place is always packed and decor is cheery. I think next time I will stick with traditional Burmese dishes as this seems to be what they do best. more

Forget Siam, Burma is where it's at! 2/17/2006

Burma Superstar melds the best of China, Thailand, India and of course Burma. If you've overdosed on Chinese, tired of Thai and ready to take a week off of Ghee, this restaurant is where it's at. Make sure to try the Rainbow salad and the Tea Leaf salad. They claim the tea leaves are brought over from Burma by hand (which explains why they're often out of that dish). more

Burma SuperStar Restaurant - Fabulous find! 9/11/2005

Pros: -Very unique and authentic Burmese food. -Friendly staff. -Fabulous drinks...especially for people who can't take a lot of alcohol (I would highly recommend the Burmese Cooler). Cons: -HUGE, LONG wait! -No waiting (for seating) area - which means you have to wait outside and during most of the year, it's pretty cold outside in SF, especially at night. -Small, cramped seating. more

Incredible value and even more incredible food!!!! 8/20/2005

In short, everything here is good!!! The salads are fresh, incredibly delectable, and easily sharable with a date. The coconut rice (which is a must-have!) is fragrant the minute it hits the table and enhances the flavor of all the varied curry dishes. The samosa soup is full of flavor and veggies (good for vegetarians). Best of all, ALL of the dishes are extremely well-portioned and easily sharable…for a good price! It is a wonderful experience and date restaurant. There is usually a wait but it's worth it! more

Burma Superstar Satisfies 7/27/2005

This place is always very busy, but they have implemented a system that allows you to leave your cell number and go visit one of the local coffee houses/bars while you wait. Food is delicious, I reccoment the Thai Peanut/Ginger Salad and the Spicy Sesame Chicken. The coconut rice is very nice. Service is sometimes slow, and they do not always bring all the meals out together. more

Burmese cuisine on Clement 5/6/2005

My rating on this place would be "very good" but that's not available. Instead, I chose "great" because this is worth driving across town for. I went there a couple of years ago. The food was really good. The atmosphere was just fine. The prices were reasonable. The night that my boyfriend and I went, almost every customer was female. Our lame gay-dar read that a lot them were probably lesbian couples. Enjoy! more
