Glorious 5/22/2006

The Brooklyn Botanic garden is a lifesaver for anyone who doesn't have the benefit of a country home (sigh, that's me). It's tucked into the Brooklyn Museum's backyard and the nearby Prospect Park. It's divine at any time of the year. Highlights include the Japanese (Harumi?) Cherry Blossom Festival, June's rose garden explosion and fall's harvest. The grounds are stroller friendly (but don't try to picnic, it's forbidden. You can only eat at the garden's cafe) and kiddies can roll around on the cherry tree lawn. The garden frequently offers free entry. Check website for more details and also look into kids programs. more

Oasis in the Middle of Brooklyn 2/7/2006

This garden has been around since the early 1900s and the plantings show it. It is a well developed public area and there are seasonal features not to be missed. The Japanese Garden is a personal favorite of mine. From the pond with the kio to the little pagoda tucked away in the woods, this garden is a delightful place to sit and read on a sunny afternoon. The greenhouses are a winter delight, with snow on the ground and the tropical plants indoors. A great place to escape winter doldrums. The cherry trees blossom each spring and offer a shower of blossoms as you walk along the path. There are fountains, pools, a childrens garden and more. A lovely spot of nature in the middle of Brooklyn. more

Botanic Garden 9/17/2005

This place is gorgeous and breathtaking. No matter where you go within the gardens, you're in for an aesthetic treat. The colors are vibrant and soothing. My favorite was the Japanese garden--simply divine. Everyone should go--admission is mostly free, except on some days when they charge a few dollars (I'm not sure when exactly). In the winter, they have a beautiful display of Christmas light decorations. more

Feels like a different world. 8/19/2005

I wasn’t expecting much about my first visit to the Botanical Gardens. You see, I’m not the type who likes to look at plants and admire them but boy did this change my outlook of them. This place defiantly left a major impression on me. Theres so many beautiful plants and trees that I never even known have existed. Make sure you bring your camera because everywhere you look is a beautiful scene worth capturing on film. I myself have a few framed in my living room and they make great conversational pieces. I try to make a trip out there every year and so should you. more

Great place for a date 8/17/2005

I paid 3 dollars to go to brooklyn botanical garden and I thought it was absolutely amazing. I thought the way they took care of the flowers was great and felt that the scenery was amazing. I brought a camera with 36 shots and by the end I wished I had brought another roll of film. I highly recommend this garden. more
