At last, a solid place on Atlantic Ave 8/11/2004

I have been going to Baccus since its first days and Although the friendliness of the owners kept me coming back, the food was ok but not that special. Now, I have to say that they have put it toghether. Food has been consistently good for a while and still at a great price. But their most amazing feature is their wine list. It can rival any upscale French restaurant but was kept at a very reasonable price. The owners are passionate about wine and love to talk about it. Baccus is going to be there for a while. Great! Pros: Wine list, Garden, Food more

A perfect bistro 4/23/2004

Compared to the droves of mediocre restaurants on nearby Smith Street, Bacchus is a gem. It's the closest I've found to a real French bistro. The steak and coq au vin stand out. It's great for a date...the garden is very romantic. And the wine list is superb. Pros: great wine, mellow garden, excellent food more

Bacchus is amazing! 2/17/2004

Bacchus has finally given Brooklyn an authentic French bistro. The atmosphere is warm, as is the service. The food is memorable. more

A great modestly-priced find 1/22/2004

We've been to Bacchus half a dozen times. In the warm weather, ask to sit in the garden. The food is authentic French, all of it good, but it won't make you forget Daniel and La Cote Basque. The Pate d'Campagne and Escargot are fine appetizers. Favorite entrees are Lapin Moutarde, Onglet, and Monkfish. The wine list is well-selected and fairly-priced. Give this place a try. more

Warm neighborhood bistro 12/25/2003

This is a very warm, affordable neighborhood restaurant. It opened within the last year and each time I've visited I think the food has gotten better and better (after a so-so start). Although the staff overall may not be so outgoing, the owner is extremely warm and friendly and welcomes you as if it was his home. The prices are very affordable and the ambiance in the garden or enclosed patio is lovely. Two dishes I can recommend are the coq au vin and the pork tenderloin. Also, they now have a liquor license. Pros: Warm ambiance, Affordable, Charming more

awful barservice 11/4/2003

I wanted to sit at the bar with an old friend and just enjoy a glass of wine. But the bartender girl was absolutely rude and not attentive. I had to ask for a menu a few times before actually a very kind busboy give it to us. The bartender ignored us trough the 2 hours we spend there (there was only one more customer at the bar, and he was't happy with the service either). She wouldn't even notice our empty glasses. I do go to Bacchus a lot, and usually I like the food, but last weekend turned really sour. Appearently she is an 'experienced' bartender-- she also bartends on Smith Street in a restaurant as I learned later. Pros: good food, attentive busboy Cons: rude bartender more

unorganized! no mngrs, no owner, no chef 9/11/2003

Recently I have called Bacchus to arrange for a party of 25. I left my phone numbers with someone on two occassions, but noone called me back. On my way home from work I went into the restaurant to talk to an owner or manager. I only found a very young waitress who hardly even seemed to understand what I planned to do at this establishment. I also asked for a chef (thought that may be able to talk about the food for the party), but the waitress said that there was no chef at the restaurant. I was just glad that I found out these things about Bacchus before I would have booked a dinner party there. No more to say, I booked the party somewhere else, and it went very well! more

go there! 8/19/2003

What a nice experience, I went there with a date and I had such a great time. Service was friendly, no attitude, good food...Just the kind of restaurant experience you would like to have every time. And the prices are excellent. I will be a regular at this place. Pros: value, garden more

Another New Brooklyn Bistrot 7/27/2003

Perfect for the summer, Bacchus with a lovely garden with tall shade trees, makes the summer much more lively in South Brooklyn. For starters try the frisee with lardon and cheese (always refreshing in the summer). Entrees included tender rabbit, luscious monkfish and tasty pork tenderloin. The restaurant now has it's wine license (they were gracious enough to allow us to open our wine the day after they got it, without a corkage fee) with a nice selection of inexpensive Loire reds and whites. more

Merci beaucoup 6/7/2003
