A Perfect Retreat 7/7/2008

I recently went to A'Shay and was pleasantly surprised by the backyard. They have grape vines that create an awning, and little cosy tables for romantic dining. The food was great -- I went with a party of 5 and everyone enjoyed what they ordered, and the service was very attentive.\r \r I was so impressed that I sent an email while I was at the restaurant recommending it to a few other friends. more

Best food and atmosphere 6/2/2008

BIGUPS TO A'SHAY RESTAURANT IN BROOKLYN!!!!!!!!!! \r \r I must say my long time friend Jamil has definitely found his niche in life. Let me tell you first hand that Ashay Restaruant is nothing less than extraordinary from the food to the visual atmosphere. If you are visiting NY, live anywhere close to Brooklyn,NY or just looking for something new and different, please check out this place. You will not be disappointed. I had the fresh homeade ginger lemonade, delicious crabcakes and topped it off with banana bread pudding. Can I tell you I have not tasted food so fresh from a restaurant in a long time. I'm not just saying this because he's my friend but this place is amazing. I would almost move back to NY just so I can eat there lol!!! And like I said also the atmosphere is amazing. Perfect place to take a date or just hang out with some friends. Please support our people. It's the only way we can get to the top.\r \r \r \r Love you all \r Peace and Blessing \r more

A wonderful dinner from start to finish! 12/24/2007

We were absolutely thrilled to have found this lovely, serene(and spotless!) restaurant. The very inviting staff sets everything off on the right foot. Each dish the four of us tried was not only delicious, but beautifully and thoughtfully presented. From the creative and superb salads to the delicate and perfectly glazed salmon served with mint and coconut rice, not to mention the terrific roasted vegetables over polenta and wow! those desserts! We had the warm mango-apple cobbler and the chocolate mousse! A delightful experience, one we plan to enjoy again soon! more

What a gem! 10/16/2007

I had one of the best dining experiences in a while here--the food, ambiance, hospitality, everything felt really right on. My friend and I started with the yucca cakes, then I followed that with the citrus glazed salmon--just the right balance of sweet and savory. We washed our food down with refreshing ginger lemonade.\r \r The outdoor dining area in back had a surprisingly secluded feel to it, as if I had left the city and found myself in a garden oasis--they even grow their own basil out back! I bet it would be nice for parties.\r \r The only downside I can think of is that it is a bit of a walk from the L train. \r Pros: Great food, warm, inviting atmosphere. more

Charming spot on unassuming block 7/13/2007

We stumbled upon this cute, new restaurant located right at the base of the w-burg bridge and opted to sit in the back garden. The decor of the restaurant itself was really sleek and nice (the bathroom, too!), but the small patio and garden really transported you to another place. And the basil plants as centerpieces were a great touch on the outdoor tables. As for the food, I'm usually wary of eclectic menus, but everything we tried was done well, especially the shrimp & plaintain dish. The mac & cheese was surprisingly good, too! Finally, the service was fast and extremely attentive - the staff & owners were very friendly and the atmosphere in general made you feel like you were at home. i'll definitely go back! Pros: Ambience, Service Cons: not the nicest block more

This retaurant is great! I have been here several times for different occasions and loved it every time. There is nothing on the menu that I dont love and the staff is amazing, and the atmosphere is a delite. The prices are reasonable to top it off. I highly recommend checking this place out. more

A'Shay...I'll be back (with friends) really soon! 5/18/2007

I walked pass this place for quite some time wondering what was going on behind the tinted glass! When I finally got the opportunity to peak in, the warm welcome, the aroma of the food, and the light from the garden made me stay! I had a wonderful dining experience here. The starter salad and shrimp entree were highly flavorful. The warmth of staff, who made me feel at home while maintaining professionalism, was also a pleasant surprise. The entrees were priced well, and the portions were perfect. \r \r One would expect to find A'shay on the Northside. The Southside needed this addition. I will be returning...very soon. Pros: Good food, nice staff, right off of the marcy stop, and the GARDEN! Cons: Nondescript (can miss it) more

Upscale dining in a casual astmosphere, with afforable prices 5/16/2007

I was referred to A'Shay by a friend, and was immediately impressed with its friendly and casual dining atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised to have professional service, GREAT food ? which was beautifully plated ? and very reasonable prices. I've been back a few times and have tried the Shrimp, Salmon, Yuca cakes, Mac n' cheese, and Crab cakes ? all terrific.\r \r I had an opportunity to briefly speak with the owners and Chef and was quickly enchanted by their warmth.\r I haven?t dined in the outside garden yet, but plan to soon. This restaurant is a delightful little secret. Pros: Quality food, good service, great prices, subway close by Cons: Street parking more
