Dome 5/27/2006

This place has the coolest star show that they project on to this huge dome that is built inside the planetarium. If you live in Chicago then they will cut you a break on the prices here, but it is still going to cost you about fifteen dollars to see the show. It is worth it though. more

Go For The Shows 5/13/2006

The Adler Planetarium is nothing to go running around screaming about, but the shows that they have are fantastic, and will have you coming back. They do this one show that explains everything about the stars and really pulls you in as you sit inside the large dome that projects images on the ceiling. This is a great place. more

Fat Black Hole 5/7/2006

I learned about Black Holes here, which kind of freaked me out. They also have info on how much you weigh on the moon and other planets. I went there with a date and we weighed ourselves - Big Mistake. He was like, "Oh, you're pretty hefty on Mars." We never spoke again. But anyway, Adler really does offer fun hands on ways of educating us on what the heck space is about . You can get in for free ( i know a lot of these types of secrets) if you are a student doing research or the like. Just ask. Otherwise, be willing to shell out big bucks for this Family Fun adventure. more

Don't miss it! 5/4/2006

I think this is one of the cooler places to visit when in Chicago but it often gets overlooked for some reason - probably because it is so close to the other more 'well known' sites in the city. The shows they put on are really neat here - you lay back and gaze up at the domed ceiling and watch the show. The other exhibits are really cool to see, too! more

Nice Planeterium 4/27/2006

I went here as a chapperone for my son's school field trip. I actually found this to be a really interesting place. Its located in a beautiful spot, just along the lake. Inside, it is quiet and peaceful, with lots of great little booths and exhibits giving info about the universe, planents, and stars. We actually watched a show in the theater. While most of the young kids were yawning through the show, I found it informative and pretty interesting. I guess this is a place that is really geared towards those who have a genuine interest in learning about the universe. Not first grade students! more

Space Out! 3/18/2006

This place is a must visit. You need to go at least once in your lifetime. If you are a Chicago resident and haven't been here, you are missing out. If you are a tourist, put this on your list. I suggest arriving as close to their opening time as to avoid huge crowds or lines. Take your time to explore the museum. The exhibit area near the cafe is fairly new and educational. The Sky Theater and all the films will cost extra, but if you have the time definetly check it out. You are at the end of the Museum Campus here and it also offers one of the best views of the city. more

Disappointed 3/16/2006

I was a bit disappointed with the Adler Planetarium. It was small and the exhibits were less than impressive. I felt that anyone over the age of 12 wouldn't be entertained. The exhibits just seemed like little plastic replicas, and not much else. The laser show was cool, but that was about it. more

A Great Place to Go Once/Year 2/24/2006

The Adler Planetarium is a great place to go to see and learn about all the sky has to offer! I think everyone who lives in and visits Chicago should go at least once a year. There is even a sky show that you and the rest of the theater can control yourself!!! Now, they are also offering a sky show done to music that almost everyone should be familiar with!!! It's great for all ages!!!! more

Come in the dark 12/21/2005

I love the planetarium and all its exhibits. Its a really fun place for kids because there is a lot of exhibits and cool shows. I was there once ofr something called Sonic Vision where you stare at the ceiling while images and music project and the experience was just amazing. Its a beautiful place overall and I think one of the most underrated in Chicago. My favorite time to go though, is when the Planetarium is closed, around midnight or so. We park on the street keeping an eye out for cops. But right next to the planetarium, a little above the lake is the perfect view of Navy Pier, the lake and the Chicago skyline. more

Museum with 5 Stars! 10/14/2005

Adler Planetarium is a museum exhibiting planets, stars and the earth. What is the most interesting of Adler is their sky show. You first sit in a movie style theatre in which there is a show that changes throughout the year. Next you go to a Sky Show which you sit in a room in which the ceiling is a dome shape. The ceiling is the show and you watch the stars and the planets. The Sky Show Theatre is 360 degrees. Other exhibits shows our solar system and milky way galaxy. Excellent place for children to learn how our galaxy was formed and how the planets evolved. more

Beautiful Shows 8/28/2005

They have great shows here. You can see the millions of stars from their planeterium. Its a nice way to spend a few hours on a hot day. Its a great way for the kids to learn about the Galaxy. more

planetarium 8/21/2005

The Planetarium is a fascinating place to visit. The exhibits, telescopes, and tours all-together make the Planetarium a worthwhile place to see. You can learn a lot about planets, stars, and anything else out there in space. The gift shops even sell astronaut food, which, although is just dehydrated food, can be exciting for any kid to have. more

Stars, Planets, etc. 8/19/2005

The Adler Planetarium used to be not as popular as the other Chicago museums, but I believe it is quickly gaining (or so I'd like to think), due to its wonderfulness inside. A museum pass (making the trip free) from the Chicago Public Library system did not include any of the main shows (tickets were extra), but the museum itself contained enough material to fill the day. Although I went without any children, some of the material, including a movie in a small theater, was definitely well suited for them. This museum would make for a fantastic family day trip, and going to a show would complete the experience. I was disappointed to find out that the new light show (with famous music in the background) that I had read about was only on Fridays and Saturdays - when I went on a Thursday. The show is supposed to be amazing, and considering that the museum has been redone to be amazing, I believe that the show must be "out of this world." A not to miss museum. more

One of the more excitings things of this exhibit is the Sky Theater. You get to experience an educational and fun film which you get to see at the ceiling. The gift shop has tons fun of stuff but can be expensive. They have space ice cream for sale here. You can eat what astronauts eat. more

Put stars in your eyes at ADLER PLANETARIUM 8/9/2005

I love the solar system room-where they have huge models of each planet in bright colors. The planetarium also has lots of special events, they have a social hour with drinks about once a month, and when mars was so close they had telescopes set out on the lawn for visitors to use. Their gift shp is pretty fun too. more

So Interesting and Fun 8/9/2005

The Adler Planetarium is one of my favorite places to go in Chicago. The exhibits are exciting and informative, and they always have interesting movies playing in their 360-degree theater. There are always special exhibits and shows especially for kids, which is a plus. Don't forget to take advantage of the free lectures and courses that are open to the public throughout the year. more
