Best

They came earlier than expected which was great especially considering the rain! The food was hot and delish! I know they're named The Chip Shop but their Meaty Mac is killer!

Worst

The food arrived earlier than expected and everything was delicious. There were instructions on how to make things a bit crispier if the food got soggy during the trip (which I really appreciated), but that wasn't needed at all. more

Great plaice and chips- fish was crispy and hot. Stilton walnut granny smith salad was also good and a good value. Desert was huge but the apple blackberry crumble was yuckky. Custard really bland and the crumble was swimming in in it. Fruit had loads of seeds, some raw oats on top of crumble, and ... I love this kind of dessert but really needs improvement. more

Great Food 3/23/2009

Friendly staff , We had the eat a 3 course meal for 2 it came with an app., entree, desert. I recommend the deep fried Twinkie bar. Price was right & the atmosphere was awesome. Must say we just arrived from Florida & maybe 2hrs after we landed they got our service & our bussness. Pros: Loved the Beef Shepard pie Cons: doesn't refill drinks often more

Worst Service EVER!!! 12/20/2008

I have lived in New York for over 4 years, and have never, ever been treated with the level of disrespect my boyfriend and I received from the waitress and supposed owner of this place. We came in about 15 minutes before closing and asked if they were still serving. They said yes, and before we ordered, we verified that we would have enough time to order food and a beer and not be rushed. The waitress said yes, if we ""hurried up and ordered."" That should've been our first indicator. We ate the greasy food quickly and before we had even finished, they gave us the bill, which we paid promptly. After the waitress got her money (+ a 20% tip), she told us we had to leave because they were closing up. I had 1/3 of my beer left! It had been less than 30 minutes since we arrived and she was forcefully kicking us out! We told her we had asked before we sat down if we would have time to sit and eat, and her response now was nothing but rude and indignant. Absolutely no respect. The food was definitely not worth the trouble, and this woman's attitude will make us NEVER return. People like that should simply not be in the restaurant business or be allowed to interact with the public. Pros: beer Cons: terrible, rude, disrespectful service more

Amazing what tastes better fried 7/31/2008

This is definitely the place to take people from out of town, get them a deep-fried Twix or twice-fried cherry pie. I love the food here. Unfortunately, it's cash only so I never rarely think to go there. Also, I've notice that if I eat a lot of this beer-battered pub-food I'll feel pretty awful for the rest of the day. And I wouldn't say I'm a fried-food light-weight either, I'm from New Orleans and every Wednesday is deep-fried seafood night in my apartment. You got to try this place, just don't make yourself sick! Pros: Always unique and memorable experience Cons: Cash Only, Not Much Seating more

Best fish and chips around-like we are back in the London 6/29/2008

Had an very positive experience at the Bay Ridge Restauraunt. Fish batter was crunchy and the fish tasty and fried to perfection. Chips (fries) were moist and well done, the way I like them. Teddy can make you feel right at home. Don't be put off by english humor its part of the experience! Lighten up and enjoy.............. Pros: authentic Cons: parking in bay ridge can be difficult (try below 3rd ave) more

Bloody good melt in your mouth fish sandwich 2/13/2008

I am not drawn to fish sandwiches, but I came in here with my son and ate a great fish sandwich. I stayed away from the fried twinkie, but maybe I will come back. It is worth the trip. The fries (chips) were very good too! Pros: Melt in your mouth Fish Sandwich Cons: Deep Fried Twinkie? more

Disappointed 7/21/2007

I'm a Brit and I've wanted to visit this place for a long time now. I finally went tonight. The food is as good as you would get in an average fish and chip place in the UK. Not great but not bad. I was expecting a little better based upon all the hype. What soured the experiece for me was the service. I wondered if the moody waitress was doing it for effect, but no, she was just plain moody. No credit cards was annoying. I handed over $80 for a $62 check, only to get the ""do you want change"" response. I gather that the place was better in its early days, so I guess I was a few years late. Brits, if you live close by, fair enough, but I wouldn't recomment doing what I did and that's to drive an hour to get what I had hoped to be a better experience. Pros: Deserts Cons: Service with a scowl more

A top gaff. I shall return. 2/24/2007

Excellent all around. Good prices and authentic tasty food. A couple of pointers to my American friends: (1) English ""chips"" are supposed to be moist in the center and even bend in the middle if you were to pick one up and hold it horizontally. And they are delicious. (2) As for fried mars bars and the like, those are a Scottish invention (they fry everything). Not to my taste, but my granny was Scottish so whatever. Pros: Great food, good prices, cool toilet more

I'm all in 11/21/2006

Shepherds Pie with Mac 'n Cheese instead of Mashed Potatoes... Yes. Please. Pros: delicious, fried, beer Cons: heart problems, cholesterol more

Best fish and chips in the City 11/16/2006

It's absolutely worth a trip to Brooklyn from Manhattan for these fish and chips and a pint. Very authentic! Pros: Great fish and chips Cons: It's a hike if you live in Manhattan more

Rude Staff, Indifferent maneagement. 8/13/2006

Went there on a Sunday afternoon for a couple pints and some good food. The food was not so great and the service mediocre. Then we were highly insulted by a member of the staff. I will never go back and wouldn't reccomend it for anyone. Pros: Semi-good food Cons: terrible service and angry staff. more

Too many great restaurants in the Slope to waste your time here 8/12/2006

We went to Chip Shop with a group of six people hoping to share some relaxed good times and good food. Unfortunately, we were met with a rude hostess who seemed to be having a bad night and was blaming us for it with her attitude. The other staff was fine, but the food was unremarkable. It's not worth ruining your night with bad customer service to brave a fried twinkie or sub-par curry. more

They SUCK at delivery 5/7/2006

So I called the Chip Shop at 8 and ordered fish and chips. They told me it would take 40 minutes. An hour later I called because my food wasn't here yet. They told me the delivery guy was 2-3 minutes away. 30 minutes later I called and cancled because the food still wasn't here. This is the second time this has happened. Also, they never apologize. When I canceled they said ""oh no problem."" more

I will never go back 3/30/2006

The hype made me trek to this ""great fish and chip shop"". It sounded cool enough, so why not? Each of us ordered a different kind of basic fish and each was mediocre at best. The batter was not very tasty and Mc Donalds makes better fries. I said I would MUCH RATHER eat Long John Silvers' fish (everything tastes way better and it is about half the price) than theirs. Save your dough and go somewhere else. Vintage in the city made the best fish and chips Ive had, but I dont know if its on the menu anymore. Pros: funky atmosphere Cons: overpriced more

Chip Shop Now 11/12/2005

When they first opened the food was incredible, the service too! I mean I would eat there at least twice a week, until I weaned myself off. I recently stopped by and was surprised how just changing your cooking staff can be deadly, how? Now the food is just okay..nothing to jump up and down about at all along w/ an indifferent waitstaff. Ginger Pros: Price is good, Sunny dining room. Cons: Food is too soggy, Lousy waitstaff more

Good guilty pleasure 11/8/2005

Sure, fried food isn't necessarily good for you, but man, nobody does fish and chips like these guys. All their food tastes great, especially the Chip Butty (a french fry sandwich) and the friend macaroni. The various English deserts and beers are also fantastic, and the curry shop next door is surprisingly good too. Pros: unique, tasty, reasonable prices Cons: a tad unhealthy more
