After hearing varied reports on this establishment I decided to try it out for myself. Thursday evening, diner with guest. Greeted by rude manageress (transpired to be owner). Sea...

I love this place 8/25/2008

Super friendly barman, who is genuinely Irish (and I should know as I am Scottish!), great food, Stella on tap, what more could you ask for. My only regret is that this place used to be at the bottom of our street, but we have moved now and I can't go there as often as I used to. I can still taste the mashed potato - yum. Pros: Friendly fast service, great food. Cons: Bit pricey more

A good cocktail with great entertainment 11/12/2007

I love the bartender here. Don't get me wrong; I am not in love the the bartender, I just love his abilities as a mixologist and his hilarious sense of humor. A good cocktail with great entertainment. more

Fish & Chips 8/21/2007

I have to say this place has some of the best Fish & Chips in the city that I have tried. So good that I have to tell everyone about it! The Liberties is a comfortable place to enjoy a pint and food indoors or outside now that summer has finally arrived. more

Hurry up 7/19/2007

This place is so good that if you want to enjoy it, do it now because once City College opens there isn't going to be a sit in the house. I really like sitting in the window, watching the world go by with a nice martini in hand. I will just had to wait my turn. more

Outside Cafe! 7/19/2007

I hear rumors of outside seating for food and libations are coming to my favorite neighborhood bar & restaurant; The Liberties. If these rumors are true, I will be spending every sunny afternoon and weekend brunch sitting in the sun and sipping on delishous Bloodymarys and mimosas! I can't wait! more

One of my favorite things in life! 6/14/2007

One of my favorite things in life is eating the Liberties beer battered Fish & Chips and washing it down with a Guinness. I have had their Fish & Chips more than once and it's consistently TASTY! more

Very Satisfied. 6/12/2007

I really enjoy this corner neighborhood bar and restaurant. I have been coming here for over a year and it is comfortable, clean and friendly. They have specials on some of the evenings, good music every night and the best cottage pie. more

Great 40th Birthday Party 4/25/2007

I booked a 40th Birthday party at Liberties and we all enjoyed the food music and the drinks! The atmosphere was very inviting and i will definately make the Liberties a bar of choice! It was recommended by friends who live in the neighborhood and they love going there for Happy Hour drinks straight from the office. I think i may try ""ladies Night"" as it sounds like the bartender is a little too hot handle for some! \r \r Pros: Late Night Food more

Don't waste your time or money here!!! 4/18/2007

I read the last review and they are so right. My wife and I were in there the other night and decided that if we want to drink on a thursday, we should order it on wednesday. Slooooooooooow service, really bad. That batender is a moron. Other friends of ours booked a friday night party and I guess 2 other events were booked for the same night so their party had no seats. It was an overpriced nightmare. Skip it folks... Cons: Parking, service, price... more

Wed. Ladies night is a joke... 4/16/2007

I have been going to Liberties for years and while it's never been perfect, I have always been satisfied with good food portions, fair priced drinks, and really good service. The times they are a changin'. Management has drastically raised the prices of both food and drink at the same time service has gone down hill. I was last in there on a Wednesday (""ladies night"" ha ha) and it was something out of a Seinfeld episode. The bartender, who I assume is supposed to be attractive to women, was prancing around playing cocky/sexy (think Ricky Martin) yet had the speed and capability of a garden slug. Our dinner came out before our two martinis did and they sucked. At one point we timed him and he shook a cosmo for 4.5 minutes. At $8 plus for a drink, it is an absolute rip, unless of course you're there to laugh at Rico Suave, in which case you'll get your money's worth. You should see how cool this yahoo thinks he is!!! Total schmuck!!!\r \r Anyway, if you want to check this place out, do it on a Monday or Tuesday night when the staff is chill, friendly and down-to-earth. It is overpriced but when the laughs are going around, it is worth it. more

Excellent! 4/10/2007

Excellent cocktails, food and service. \r I liked the bar area for its casualness; the high table tops made me feel part of the action as the table next to me was friendly and nice. \r I was seated promptly and had my drink order taken soon after. The staff recommended a couple of dishes since I couldn?t make up my mind for the life of me. I started with an Irish Boxty (potato pancake) with smoked salmon. I then tried the Cottage Pie made with Niman Ranch beef. Both were so delicious that I ate everything on the plate and didn?t have room for any dessert. I will have to make a special trip back to try their bread pudding. more

Great Time 4/2/2007

Last Saturday a group of us celebrated at The Liberties, the Christening of our friend?s baby. They made it so easy for us to enjoy ourselves. The food was decided on a week before so there was no confusion or waiting and it was delicious. The Liberties was prepared for us; food, staff and drink. We even got to decorate the place with some blue balloons.\r I am thinking that this place might the place for my next birthday party.\r more

Good Vibs! 3/29/2007

I really enjoy the inviting vib that The Liberties has. The quaint feel of a neighborhood corner bar & restaurant makes me feel at home. And the big window at the front lets in lots of light during the day and makes it a place to watch the world go by and making me feel a part of it. When I don?t feel like working at home, I drag my laptop there since they have free wireless, and suddenly I am part of the community.\r Their eclectic menu offers breakfast and coffees, lunch includes a nice variety of salads and painni?s and the dinner menu is fantastic. I love to bring my 2-year old niece here on Tuesdays when they have a kids night special menu, Nicki loves it too.\r I have been meaning to write this review for sometime now and today is one of those delightfully sunny San Francisco ?winter days? and I am sitting at the front window right now? I highly recommend The Liberties!\r more

Tasty meal; excellent people watching 3/22/2007

Celebrating St. Patrick's Day is always a people watching holiday for me. The Liberties provided not only good entertainment that day but excellent Corned Beef & Cabbage too. more

Terrible service 3/18/2007

Maybe it was just a bad day...but my friend and I received the worst service here today that I have EVER received. Now I know this is a pub but, still, come on! The place was NOT busy, yet it took 30 minutes and three requests before we even got the water we asked for, and we only got it then because we went to the bar to get it ourselves. Our waitress was completely clueless and, when our food (not even our salads) had not come out in 45 minutes, with no explanation, we asked her how much longer it would be. She looked completely out of it and said she didn't know, maybe a few more minutes. We told her we weren't going to wait much longer so, if it wasn't coming out soon, to cancel the order. She then came out with the salad and she had gotten it wrong! Not wanting to wait another 45 minutes for a salad and with no sign of our burgers in sight, we told the bartender we were leaving. I don't expect the service of a fine dining restaurant when I go to pubs but, come on, this was ridiculous. I also saw other customers get up to ask the bartender what was going on with their orders (the waitress was oblivious). One of the bartender even came up to ask the woman at the table next to us how to make the cosmo that she ordered. I don't know WHAT was going on there, but I won't be back to find out ! more

Late Night, yes! 3/8/2007

What is it about SF and lack of late night food. I was lamenting about this fact to a friend and she told me about The Liberties -- fabulous since I live in Noe Valley and The Liberties is on the cusp of Noe & The Mission.\r And the variety of food on the menu was excellant; Bangers & Mash to Chicken Curry. New York Steak to Veggie Burger. The small plate side of the menu is perfect for a late night snack.\r I just might have to become a late night regular. more

I liked it! 3/1/2007

My first time in The Liberties was very pleasant, the crowd diverse and open minded. The space is warm and inviting with side rooms for intimacy while the bar area is more festive. They have a great whiskey menu along with some fancy pants cocktails. I had a great time. more

Best Place for a Party! 2/7/2007

I attended a work leaving party on Saturday night at The Liberties. I had never been there before and I wasn't sure what to expect. The main bar area was reserved for us along with enough cocktail servers to attend to our tables. The music was perfect and the cocktails were delightful; the party was a huge success. I will recommend The Liberties to friends, a great place to party. I will go again and have dinner with my boyfriend in the near future. Pros: Book your next party here! more

Awsome brunch! 1/22/2007

Last Sunday was so beautiful that when I went out to get my newspaper I kept going until I found a warm and sunny spot to read it and have a bite to eat. That is how I discovered The Liberties. They have outdoor seating and the side on 22nd is delightfully both; warm and sunny.\r Their Brunch menu was extensive and it was difficult to decide what to order. I decided on the Crab Cakes on English Muffins. To my pleasure the poached eggs were cooked perfectly.\r I enjoyed myself and will go again next weekend if the weather holds out or not, I can always sit inside. more

Fish and Chips and Guinness 11/24/2006

The title says it all - this place has the best fish and chips which are perfect with a pint of Guinness. We've always been able to be seated right away and the service is fast and friendly. We've had brunch here a couple of times, and that was good too, but teh fish and chips are the standout. Yum! more
